Those prisoners starving themselves, what the hell is going on in this crazy world!!!!

Pro Palestine activists are on a hunger strike, I really hope you get the result you want, the people of Gaza remember you seven kids who died for…… oh for them! 😂

I watched an interesting interview months ago now a young guy who was born in Israel then his father ended up being one of the head chiefs ( killers) in Hamas he know lives back in Israel after escaping…. His wise words were…. ‘ you lot in the west have no idea what is going on, with your protests and flags, stop trying to get involved in something we can and won’t be able to change’
This comes from a person on both sides who stayed very humble but very blunt.

Stop your silly little hunger strike, go and enjoy time with your family and friends you are lucky enough to be able to do that.

They are trying to make a difference however small.

What difference exactly do you think they are going to make? Do you think any world leader who has any influence at all over what is happening in Gaza is going to take a blind bit of notice?

The difference they are making is not turning a blind eye to a full blown genocide. Cowardly leaders might not take notice but they are encouraging people to talk about it instead of ignoring what is happening. Point proven right now as every person on this thread is talking about it.
It might not seem a lot, but they are doing something.
World leaders who can do something won't, and people with a lot less power such as the hunger strikers are doing what little they can.

I disagree, we in the West are finally realising what is actually going on in Israel and I have nothing but admiration for these young people who are willing to take a stand for justice.

They should be applauded for trying to prevent our country from being complicit in a genocide.

They’re not, they’re taking a stand against their legal and valid remand status in prison.

Their on a rolling hunger strike meaning that they're only skipping food for a couple of days then they start eating and another 1 or 2 stop eating. Its not a real hunger strike unlike the IRA hunger strikers who started dieing after 40 days and I don't remember any of them making it past 44 days yet the PA terrorists are on day 47 with no deaths, which tells you all you need to know about the conversations of these idiots

So they're Intermittent Fasting?

All that autophagy should be doing wonders for their bodies.

YABU for not putting context in your title.

So some people are willing to give their life for a big issue that is mostly ignored by politicians, and people on Mumsnet are mocking them. That is not kind nor a fair judgement to make. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it isn’t difficult to imagine how brave it is to do something like that.

SheinIsShite · 18/12/2025 22:26

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Families calling for the government to step in. Right, so Keir or Yvette pops into prison and coaxes these numpties to take a spoonful, as you would do with a toddler?

Nobody on this thread is doing anything that would help the strikers achieve their stated aims, since they want actual change not attention. And several of us are expressing our opposition to their proposals in a way that we might not bother with if they weren't striking.

Maybe they should have a word with Hamas and get them to release the aid they are stockpiling

And Iran who funds and recruits for Hamas !

Everyone on this thread is talking about what whiney little entitled moronic brats they are, not what their cause de jour is they are using to get attention.

Why do you think politicians are ignoring the issue, rather than simply disagreeing with them and refusing to let them have their way? Not giving in is a strategy in itself.

Do you think the UK government isn't taking a 'blind bit of notice' of these hunger strikes? And if a bunch of them die and it's front page news all week?

They're not doing it with a view to end the conflict overnight, they're doing it to put political pressure on leaders.

Sorry but you are very naive, UK political leaders don't give a shit about a few extreme people on hunger strike. Even if they did what exactly could they do to influence Israeli, put them on the naughty step, stop importing oranges?

Chinese students stood in front of tanks and were run down in 1989 every politician said it was horrible, but I bet the device your typing on was made in China, along with 75% of the things in your home

UxmalFan · 18/12/2025 20:02

It's a brave action on their part and finally people are recognising what they are doing. There was very little media coverage at first.
'Silly little hunger strike', OP, really? They are young people in their twenties ready to give up their lives for something they believe in. What could be more seirous.

The fact that young people in their 20s have been radicalised by lies and propaganda to the point that they are willing to die for this cause that has nothing to do with them is extremely stupid and worrying, not brave at all.

100s of thousands of people do 5:2 diet every week, they don’t commit terrorism or break police officers back with a sledge hammer before hand though.

Oh is that the son, Mosab Hassan Yousef.
He is a very wise man who puts himself in danger to explain to the West the meaning of the group Hamas who is father is a leader of.

Brilliant so what you’re saying is the Violet Elizabeth school of “I’ll scwheam and scwheam until I’m sick and I can!” Protest works? Brilliant! I don’t want to pay council tax so I’ll hold my breath until you tell me I don’t!

SheinIsShite · 18/12/2025 22:36

They are not being held without trial. They are on remand. Like thousands of others. Yes they will have to wait a while for a trial, like thousands of others. If/When found guilty, time served on remand is knocked off their sentence. The proposals for trial without jury are just that - proposals. They are not special in that regard, they are in the same situation as others who have been arrested, charged and remanded. However much they try to paint themselves as all special and different and martyrs.

HoneyParsnipSoup · 18/12/2025 22:37

Ffs these people are not hunger striking.

They’re allegedly on day 47.

When the IRA carried out their hunger strike - fit, healthy grown men, not diabetics and slight women - the majority died within around 60 days. By day 40 they couldn’t walk, by day 50 they were lapsing in and out of coma.

Out of this bunch, 1 has been taken to hospital and discharged. By now you would expect her to be too frail to walk and going into ketosis. If she was indeed in that state there’s no way she would be sent back to prison. The rest haven’t been hospitalised at all.

If you believe this is a ‘hunger strike’ proper then you’re deluded.

Are you this misinformed? Yes, they're lucky they have an intact spine, unlike the police officer who was attacked with a sledge hammer by one of these cretins. Lovely people you are supporting, such heroes 🙄

You clearly don't even know what "on remand" means. Its "until" trial, not "without" trial FYI and is perfectly standard procedure.
