To email the teacher

my daughters (secondary school GCSE year) teacher is really good, very dedicated and committed and just an excellent teacher and lovely person. Would it be weird to send her an email thanking her for all her hard work and wishing her a lovely Christmas?

I personally would have got a card and small gift. An email is a bit intrusive (assuming she’s on holiday) and impersonal. However it’s better than no acknowledgment at all, so go for it!

Why have you assumed the teacher is on holiday? The email was sent last week, in the last week of term, to her school email, and she replied the same day saying how thankful she was to receive the email.

How is that intrusive?

To be fair, your email didn’t say that you’d sent it last week. Scottish schools have stopped and I assumed yours had too. Sorry!

The opening post didn’t say I had sent the email no, as I was asking for advice on whether it should be sent... i then updated the thread saying I had sent the email.

No need to be sorry 😃 I wouldn’t dream of emailing a teacher in the school holidays, I wouldn’t know their personal email address anyway.

Well, it was a nice thing to do and I hope you have a lovely Christmas! 😊

Do it, I did once as I felt that we are all inclined to contact with complaints or when dissatisfied and not enough to say thank you. Good, dedicated, go beyond teachers are far more common than poor disinterested ones and can inspire pupils in a way that might define their life choices.

Some Scottish schools don't break up till tomorrow!

As a former teacher, I'd have been delighted to receive an email expressing appreciation.

I've been considering sending such a message to my son's teacher but haven't done it. You've inspired me to do the same :). Let's hope for many teachers getting similar thank you/positive emails in their inbox over Christmas!

I was in charge of cover for eons and also did exam invigilation. The parents of the last student i supervised one on one, sent me a lovely email after the exams. (They ccd head in but she never mentioned it.) I was really touched by it.

Yes do it - I’m not a teacher but work in education and this term has been tough. I have an email folder called “Nice things” which is little bits of feedback or compliments.
