Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

1.I love receiving Bayliss and Harding gift sets. In fact I buy B&H liquid soap myself.

2.My front door is always locked but should there be an unexpected knock at the door I'm happy to answer it without shaking and spiralling.

  1. Bedding is changed once every 3 weeks or so and towels are shared.

My dog sleeps on... And sometimes in... My bed with me. He's a pug and although he isn't my 'fur baby', he's definitely like a child to me. We have an amazing bond and he's the 'little spoon' at bedtime, I cuddle him in all night (at his insistence!). I'm very aware of dog smells so he gets bathed after any walks that aren't on dry, paved paths and I wash my bedding weekly.
But I'd rather know he's had a comfortable, happy life than have a dog smell free home. He won't be here forever so he gets to have the best life while he's here. Couldn't care less if anyone thinks it's filthy 🤷

I adore my little dog he does sleep in a crate in my room he has a great life and mostly socially acceptable and doesn't bother anyone outside, he isn't a "furbaby" but he gets away with much more than other dogs i have had.

Just looked on here. I do all sorts if ' terrible' things. People on MN are tiresome bores, aren't they. Must take a lot of bandwidth having to show off your ' virtuous living' all the time. Since when did raising kids become an Olympic sport.

I have occasionally leafed my way contemplatively through specs of bathrooms with carpets.

Too far?

Nope - I have carpet tiles in my bathroom - love them!

Oh I remember in the 80s we had a bathroom carpet! My friends mum had a sunken bath and it was carpeted right up to thr outside edge

I’ve taken mine to places too. My eldest was 2 when I took him to The Louvre and he was very well behaved and quiet.

I have a lot of male friends, dh has some female friends. Mostly we socialise together. I have liked or disliked both men or women equally in my life. I tend to like about 90% of people. even those I don't like, i tend to like initially until they show me reason to change my view. I like meeting new people and I happily engage in small talk.

Echobelly · 16/12/2025 16:00

Left my kid as baby or toddler sleeping in locked car parked next to door when nipping into boots to get something, or to pay for petrol.

No, never on a hot day, no I was not going to forget they were there and go off to do something else and no, there was never a person who wanted to kidnap a baby happening to walk past who decided to look in all the cars and then break my window to abduct my child.

JaniceGJ · 16/12/2025 16:00

Worked part time instead of sticking my kids in wraparound care.

Yes, I allow tradies to use my toilet as well!

Another one who allowed both tradies, and once an absolute stranger of a delivery guy, but it was his very first day and he didn’t know where he was supposed to find a restroom without going “over” his time slots for delivery. He was in and out of my loo in two minutes, and very, very grateful - didn’t take the mick, and never asked to use it again.

BunnyLake · 16/12/2025 16:02

When I get a Christmas card through the post I am not delighted, I am more Fuck who sent me a card! Because now I have to traipse into town to the post office and buy damn expensive stamps (because I very rarely need stamps nowadays) and a box of cards. I’ve been trying to wean people off sending me cards for years but some still slip through the net 😒

What makes you think that not having a cleaner is what's frowned upon on here? It's the opposite, if anyone has a complaint about their cleaner, the refrain is 'clean your own house'. Funnily enough, nobody would say that about a problematic plumber or joiner or electrician.

While I get this, nobody's actually forcing you to respond. I never send Christmas cards, but am happy to receive them, as I guess sending them gives people joy.

Lmnop22 · 16/12/2025 16:05

I am not considering withdrawing my child from nursery despite the fact a man works there, there’s no CCTV, she has become ill several times over the last couple of months and she was once allowed to not nap all day 😱

dairyfreequeenoh · 16/12/2025 16:09

I named my child something the entirety of Mumsnet told me not to (no regrets)
I never lock my front door during the day if I’m home
send my child to private school even though it’s not the most financially responsible decision

Catpiece · 16/12/2025 16:09

I like lager and often get pissed on it. I get on well with all my family members. I dry my washing in the garden and I don’t care less about it getting darked on or spiders rubbing their willies on it; feel free. I let my year 6 son walk a mile and a half to school on his own back in the day. I never got involved with chatting at the school gates. I love the next door neighbours and they love me.

I know, I should just text a thank you with some added chit-chat. I really don’t need or want physical cards but I am always gracious as I have manners 😊

Use Chatgpt to talk about my relationships (I didn't have any parenting and had multiple abusive relationships so it helps).

I named my child a foreign name of a country we have no links with.

My kids went to private seniors, nearly killed me financially but don’t regret it (though don’t recommend for their future kids unless they have a lot of money).

Red125 · 16/12/2025 16:12

Don't regulate screen time
Allow my (older) children to swear (not at people or the f or c words)
I have smoked weed
I have a toilet brush
I was an unmarried SAHM for several years (we did get around to it eventually)
I eat processed food
