Yes, this is my second Christmas without my darling daughter, she’s been gone just 13 months and the sadness is still here of course, this time of year makes it that much harder.

Its the 2nd without ds. Feels worse this year.

FlatErica · 16/12/2025 05:55

No, it’s the best time of year!

UncleTed · 16/12/2025 06:14

I like the lights everywhere. I think we need them when it’s so dark and gloomy. I like getting all my family together, even though we sometimes disagree, because it’s rare to have everyone together. Presents, I could do without.
The thing I am not a fan of is the consumerism, gluttony and excess, followed by the January diet/exercise/new year’s resolutions. When I see ads referencing this is January I just want to tell them to f*off. It all feels like a cynical marketing tool. Can’t wait for that part to be over.

OttersMayHaveShifted · 16/12/2025 06:19

Nope, I love it! The only bit I'm not looking forward to is the 4hrs on the M6 each way to get where we're going to stay with family. Can't wait until Friday when we break up (teacher). It's been a tough term and I'm running on fumes tbh. Heartfelt sympathies to those who are bereaved or having a difficult time in various ways.

aCatCalledFawkes · 16/12/2025 06:52

Not not looking forward to it but my son is still at school, work is very busy for myself and also my daughter. It still feels like we have a lot to get through that isn’t Christmas.

MrsMurphyIWish · 16/12/2025 06:55

Hadn’t started in my house - apart from the advent calendars (which DD hasn’t even opened yet as she’s saving them all to open Xmas Eve)! Christmas will begin 1.30pm for my kids (half day) and 3.40 for me (no half day at my school - bah humbug!).

Iocanepowder · 16/12/2025 06:57

No. I need a break from work. Working right up until xmas eve. Also not sure why people would want to skip to January, another shit winter month.

Four years since DP died on the 20th December, so there are Christmas reminders everywhere. It gets easier when everything is back to normal in January.

My dad died on the 19th. Since then Christmas has lost its sparkle; it's what the world was like when Dad died. I agree with you.

This year my mum is in hospital with serious symptoms under a crumbling NHS who just want to simply attribute everything to age and arthritis and clear the bed out.

Christmas not even on my radar. Though I am stress eating the festive food all month.

NowThatsWhatICallRecent · 16/12/2025 07:54

I'm looking forward to the break from work. Christmas is incidental, really. Not planning anything much.

Strictlycomeparent · 16/12/2025 07:55

Yes. My favourite bit is the part between Christmas & new year where we flop and hang out together without all the stress.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/12/2025 11:02

I cannot wait for it to be over. I hate this time of year. I can’t stand the ridiculous fuss about Christmas. You only have to read the threads on here to see the ridiculous amount of stress (and expense) that people put themselves under to deliver the ‘perfect Christmas’. Absolutely bonkers. Roll on January!

herbalteabag · 16/12/2025 11:03

No, I enjoy it but I'm looking forward to the day rather than the build up, which I find quite stressful.

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 16/12/2025 11:37

I am looking forward to bunkering down and hibernating for a few days, no work and just trying to relax (hah!) I don’t believe in Christmas so will be glad when all that’s over and I will be very glad to see the back of this year that’s for sure

Augustus40 · 16/12/2025 11:53

I enjoy January more to be honest. Days slowly get lighter. Fresh start etc

MargoLivebetter · 16/12/2025 11:55

Yes @Funtimes888 . I don't hate Christmas but it is a lot of work and effort, so Boxing Day is one of my favourite days of the year. Collapse in a heap, watch crap TV and thank heavens that it is all over for another year.

Lookingforthejoy · 16/12/2025 11:56

Bahhhhhumbug · 15/12/2025 22:36

First Xmas after a family bereavement , dreading it , not doing it at all, treating it like a normal day, can't wait for it to be over.

I’m sorry to hear this. I know everyone is different but I found the actually run up to Christmas day much worse than the day itself.

LostittoBostik · 16/12/2025 11:57

I’m looking forward to this weekend (friends Xmas) and the 27th onwards. I’m not looking forward to the extended family bit in the middle. I’ll just focus on the kids to get through it. I’m trying to convince DH that we should just do a nuclear family Xmas next year but he thinks he need to do the expected family visit (it’s only my family who are still alive, but I’m so over it and need a break from it)

ConnieHeart · 16/12/2025 12:01

No not at all. I don't really 'look forward' to anything. I live in the moment

Livpool · 16/12/2025 12:49

No - I can’t wait for it to begin! DS breaks up from school on Friday so it will start then for us

JacknDiane · 16/12/2025 12:55

I love the run up to Xmas, apart from working in retail!!!

I've already started on the quality street, after a particularly harrowing day...

TangoWhiskeyAlphaTango123 · 16/12/2025 13:04

AI bots are out again.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 16/12/2025 13:08

Nope, love December. The lights, decorations, food and drinks, parties, school activities, Christmas Eve and Christmas day, all great 🎄
Will be sad when it’s over.

TooWittyToWoo · 16/12/2025 13:10

I lost my parent in October so I’m really not feeling it (never been a fan but this year is particularly awful). It’s just me and my other parent on the day this year and I cannot wait for all the hype to be over.

I’m looking forward to the time off from next Weds till 5th but that’s so I can decompress and start to recover from an awful year.

Ivyy · 16/12/2025 13:12

HansHolbein · 16/12/2025 02:07

No! I can barely sleep because I’m so excited.

Sorry if it’s a silly question but are you being sarcastic? If not, can I ask what makes you feel so excited? I feel I’ve totally lost my Christmas spirit this year
