What sweet breakfast would you prefer to eat on Christmas?

My teen daughter is wanting to bake breakfast this year for our very large family. We are having McDonalds style English muffins. But DD is insisting on a sweet treat for those that would prefer. She want to make something from scratch. She has asked what adults would prefer 😂. I have no sweet tooth so am no help.

  • Cinnamon rolls
  • Walnut/chocolate plaits
  • Pastries (would be a turnover-esque thing with fresh cream - assortment of flavours)
  • Babka with various jams
  • Baked German pancakes
  • Custard buns

I’ve told her it’s not really needed as the English muffins are plenty filling but she’s insisting. And I’m more than happy for her to enjoy baking/cooking. We have a large group so I’m sure they’ll get eaten.

Chocolate babka, the best babka of them all!

Cinnamon is a winner here as well. I would go for them.

I’m not help because I would also want your savoury option. I think Christmas Day especially needs to begin with something savoury.

But of those options I think cinnamon rolls sound good. A bit more “proper food”y than the other options.

Banana bread 😋

Livpool · 14/12/2025 21:38

My preference would be a chocolate plait but would eat anything on your list!

Livpool · 14/12/2025 21:38

Except banana bread as I am allergic to bananas…

Millindugu · 14/12/2025 21:38

Cinnamon rolls but to throw another into the mix, my very favourites are maple and pecan plaits

I used to live near a baker that made amazing Cardamom Bubka, I miss them so much!

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/12/2025 21:40

Monkey Bread? It's nice and sociable.

Quite a few people I know don't like cinnamon so I'd go for a selection of pastries to also include Croissants and pain au chocolates.

Cinnamon rolls. I'd have that over savoury. The main lunch is Savoury so we have a sweeter breakfast Xmas morning.
A selection of pastries and pancakes.

Cinnamon rolls 100% - extra benefit is they are considered festive too

Ha first post nails it!

Absolutely cinnamon buns!

Cinnamon rolls are my absolute favourite, @Cronte.

Not on the list but these are fab and Christmassy and can be prepped the night before. https://www.nigella.com/recipes/christmas-morning-muffins

We've made these for breakfast on Christmas day for the last 10 years! They're great because they're not too sickly and, as @flairyfairy says, you can do a lot of the prep the night before.

I do these, they’re very easy to prep before and bake in the morning and feel like a treat.

The cinnamon rolls would probably be first choice, but apart from the custard buns, I'd be happy with anything. Had to Google the German pancakes - they look delicious!
