I’ve become a regular public loo

PinkScot · 12/12/2025 15:47

Last week a female Amazon driver asked to use my loo and of course I said yes, she said she was desperate and explained it was difficult to find a loo on a route. I must admit although I said yes I did feel quite uncomfortable as she was a stranger but obviously wanted to help. Now today she’s asked me for the third time. I was having a bad day anyway but I did say do you have nowhere else to go but here? I kind of feel I’m just going to get asked every time she comes now because I helped her out and I hadn’t signed up to be the public convenience!

I feel bad for feeling this way but it makes me feel queasy. I can’t explain why I feel taken advantage of…anyone else had repeat toilet users?

I think people probably all feel differently about whether it matters. I can imagine if I had a busy house of four teens all in and out with their friends, I'd barely notice. But if you are at home alone it could feel quite intrusive.

We have a busy house, we work from home, teen and adult kids are in and out with friends, dogs that bark when strangers come in the house….and I wouldn’t want random delivery drivers using the loo.

Calliopespa · 12/12/2025 20:21

Can you? Do they manage to catch it all and could you use them while sitting in a car?

Asking for a friend, just so you know. Nothing to do with an upcoming drive to Cornwall.

I don't have/have never used one but you can ask google?

LlynTegid · 12/12/2025 20:31

Watch the film by Ken Loach 'Sorry we missed you', which whilst fiction is based on reality.

I don't blame the female driver given that no doubt some men would behave in a scary way or worse, but you can stop this by not ordering from Amazon.

Winterwonderwhy · 12/12/2025 19:27

Why should she?

Well then she wouldn't have this irksome dilemma of having underpaid, overworked, full bladdered delivery drivers on her doorstep

Yes, ours is semi busy and I wouldn't either.

But I can see in that some of the "does it even matter/ what's the big deal" posts might be from people in that position.

I think op was kind to allow it once - and I would probably have done the same if the woman looked stricken. But I'd not want to become a planned toilet stop on the route.

HopelesslyNaive98 · 12/12/2025 20:42

I wouldn’t mind at all. Tbh I’d probably be more embarrassed about the potential state of our bathroom!

There are virtually no public toilets anymore, and even supermarkets etc. expect you to spend in store or pay for parking. Let alone if you’re on the clock for deliveries and don’t have time to make a purchase or pay for parking on a bloody app.

I do a job in community and don’t always have time or it isn’t feasible to stop off somewhere to pee. I occasionally have to ask clients - thankfully they are always obliging.

Friendlyfart · 12/12/2025 20:48

Our Amazon drivers just drop and run, and I’m not talking about their trousers.!!!
seriously though I’ve never had a delivery driver ask if they can use the toilet. Nearest public loo (in a park is about 5 mins drive so I’d prob direct them there).

I've only ever been asked once. I did say yes, but also had to explain that there are 4 chihuahuas, one will want to say hello, one will bark, one will hide, but the last one will bite, and I can only hold two at a time and none of the doors, including the bathroom door, close so I cannot lock them away (HA - don't ask).

He decided he could wait.

You can lend them if you want @PinkScot

For real? 🤣

Or you can keep ordering what you like from Amazon and simply say no to delivery drivers.

You can get female urinal bottles - not expensive.

OP could order one from Amazon and gift it to delivery driver on the doorstep. 😂

Lookingforthejoy · 12/12/2025 15:52

You’ve had the same amazon driver 3 times in a week. I always get different ones.

Only ever seen 1 amazon driver more than once if I ordered for Saturday it's nomally the same person.
Today I've had 3 amazon deliveries 3 different drivers.

What kind of a job or employer doesn’t allow someone to factor in toilet breaks. How uncivilised. What is the world coming to?

People need their shit, dont you know, and promptly

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · 12/12/2025 21:02

Unless she is doing a big dirty turd then really what is the problem

gamerchick · 12/12/2025 21:04

It's pain for women I think, men just pee in bottles.

I don't mind but I have a toilet right next to the front door, so they're not really trekking through the house.

She needs to have all the places that the public can pee mapped out in her head.

MyAmusedPearlSquid · 12/12/2025 21:21

I have a downstairs toilet I don't use so they can use this if needed

SEmyarse · 12/12/2025 17:26

I mean, you're not wrong, all of the bosses absolutely don't give a toss, but I don't actually think this is really solvable by them. Areas are too variable, so we kind of do have to rely on goodwill sometimes.

I'm not saying they should actually provide/guide you to a toilet... just allowing for you to have the time to do so would be a start.

For real? 🤣

For real.

That week with no doors was the most stressful week of my life. We had doors downstairs, but we also had my dad's dog for the week, who hates the chihuahuas (can't say I blame him tbf)

The bathroom door has never closed; it closes from the inside, but there is a knack to it. It is on my list of things to fix, but that is a very long list.

My bedroom door has never closed. I have tried to fix that one, but I think it needs a new doorframe, even the 2 new replacement doors the HA fitted do not close. I gave up reporting that after they gave me a third door that did not close.

DD1's door had been taken off to move furniture, but the door split when we put the hinges back on, so we were waiting for a new one to be delivered.

DD2's door closed, but she was in bed, and it was locked.

How about finding an alternative for her? Then you can say, "I didn't mind the one time, but it's difficult for me to keep stopping in the middle of what I'm doing. Did you know that there's a public toilet around the corner at the ABC store, or three blocks down at the library?"

MrsVBS · 12/12/2025 21:43

I agree it is a nuisance, my husband let the Tesco delivery driver use our downstairs loo a couple of weeks ago and he was in there absolutely ages, had a really smelly 💩 and stunk my hallway out, after that I’m afraid anyone who asks to use it the answer will be no!

Matsukaze · 12/12/2025 21:51

One occasion - fair dos. More than once - taking the piss 😉

Poor woman is doing a shitty job for a shitty company, and you have the opportunity to make it more bearable. Why on earth would you refuse? Very mean spirited.

What is wrong with people?!

wildfellhall · 12/12/2025 22:07

Last year I let a guy who was delivering a shed go to the loo and he not only made a huge stink but broke the light fighting by pulling too hard.

I think this is one of those ethical knife edges….. we like to think that we are generous, kind people. We know this work is hard and no time is allotted for rest breaks. But there is something about strangers in your loo… I felt like a real mug after this guy stank up the hall and pulled out the light pull.
I was so annoyed. Like the grinch my heart was too small by several sizes 😆

I'm a paramedic and sometimes have to ask to use toilets in peoples houses.

So,
I assume she feels safe asking to use your loo when she doesn't in houses with males.

And

Take it as a complement on your cleanliness that she initially judged your house as clean enough to ask and that she has asked again.

But you can always say no, sorry, not today.
