To think my neighbours are just weird?

They’ve stolen my bin. Today is bin day, and all the bins were left out on the pavement after collection. I’ve just gone out to put mine away and couldn’t find it. It was in front of my driveway (I saw it from my window) but then I got a call so I couldn’t move it immediately.

I then see next door has put their bin back at the side of their house … but they’ve also taken my bin as well. Why are people so odd? I don’t understand this weird behaviour.

Go and ask for it back and they will probably tell you. Maybe they didn't like seeing it left on the pavement.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 11/12/2025 13:19

Maybe their bin has fallen in love with your bin and they just desperately wanted to be together?

You might be blessed with a litter of baby bins.

Motnight · 11/12/2025 13:19

Have you asked for it back?

pimplebum · 11/12/2025 13:19

Is it possible they’ve done it absent mindedly or thinking they have done you a favour my looking after it ??
hardly stolen if it’s in plain view ?
some places you can get fines for blocking the path ?

Lmnop22 · 11/12/2025 13:22

Just go and get it. I’m sure it wasn’t an elaborately planned theft - likely two people who live there went to get the bin and the second didn’t realise it had already been done

I’d just go and get it back.

My neighbour nicks our black bin every time. I used to knock first but I’d always end up in a stupid debate about so I just go and nick it back now.

We used to have a small number sticker on the lid, but I’ve now covered it in massive numbers so he has no excuse but he still carries on.

We live down a little lane so we all have to leave our bins on a little grassy area at the top, they’re not in anyone’s way. I’m at work when the bin is collected so can’t get it in straight away.

LakeGeneva1 · 11/12/2025 13:41

How do you know the bin men didnt do it?

Anonanonanonagain · 11/12/2025 13:59

Is it windy where you are? If it is where I am we take neighbours bin in also so it doesnt blow into a car or something when empty.

Read the OP, she could see from her window that it was sitting out after being emptyed.

Sorry, yes.

Absolute rubbish. I refuse to believe this is a serious issue.

purplecorkheart · 11/12/2025 14:18

Just knock. I took in my neighbours bin this week as it was so windy I was afraid it would be blown in the road way and cause damage/accident. They do the same.

I'm genuinely curious as to what the debate from them constantly stealing your bin would be? 😅

Just go get it op, ring the doorbell as you start wheeling it down their drive, and if they answer just shout over your shoulder that they seem to have made a mistake and you're taking it back to your house.

Blarn · 11/12/2025 14:22

It's our bin day today and now I'm worried I have put the wrong bin at the side of our house!

Not that unbelievable, we've had to pay for 2 new bins in the last 3 months as ours were nicked. I usually bring them in straight away as I WFH but I was in meetings so couldn't get them for an hour or so, knocked on neighbour's doors but they all denied having them.

No? Why would I do that? I just went and took it.

What is this bin stealing threads lately

BeNoisyFish · 11/12/2025 14:35

Where do you all live that neighbours can't be trusted with your bin? Must be the roughest slum, no offence.

Pogsandfrogs · 11/12/2025 14:35

LakeGeneva1 · 11/12/2025 13:41

Because like I clearly said in my OP I saw where my bin was. Also in all my years of living in a property I’ve never known a bin man to walk up a driveway and position a bin back.

SlowCookerDay · 11/12/2025 14:35

I stole my neighbours bin once. Didn’t mean to. They asked and I gave it back! Unless it’s frequent, it’s probably not deliberate.

Roughest slum? Well I paid £840K to live in a shithole I guess.

Also I’m sorry but that’s such an MN way to put things 🤣🤣, it’s a sneery comment designed to make them feel better snd put others down using language a normal person wouldn’t say, Based on me saying a neighbour took my bin. I think you witnessing an actual slum would put you in a coma.

I’m going to assume you just don’t understand what happened.

This is not a case of they accidentally took my bin thinking it was theirs. They took their bin AND mine. That’s not a mistake.

Have you tried talking to you neighbours because, and this may shock you, they are the only ones who can answer your question.
