To think my neighbours are just weird?

They’ve stolen my bin. Today is bin day, and all the bins were left out on the pavement after collection. I’ve just gone out to put mine away and couldn’t find it. It was in front of my driveway (I saw it from my window) but then I got a call so I couldn’t move it immediately.

I then see next door has put their bin back at the side of their house … but they’ve also taken my bin as well. Why are people so odd? I don’t understand this weird behaviour.

I’d just go and get it back.

My neighbour nicks our black bin every time. I used to knock first but I’d always end up in a stupid debate about so I just go and nick it back now.

We used to have a small number sticker on the lid, but I’ve now covered it in massive numbers so he has no excuse but he still carries on.

We live down a little lane so we all have to leave our bins on a little grassy area at the top, they’re not in anyone’s way. I’m at work when the bin is collected so can’t get it in straight away.

I'm in a cul-de-sac in New Zealand and everyone leaves their bins in a grassy area outside my house. One house never picks their bin up for days. They are a big family too, so would think they need it, but can be there for 4 to 5 days.

Stupid thing is they actually have to pass it every time they leave the street.

Another pointless thread.....

DottyLottieLou · 12/12/2025 10:48

Why did you ask on here? So many nutters 😄

TheatricalLife · 12/12/2025 11:06

How odd.
Oh well, never mind. You went and got it back so problem solved. Maybe it was absent minded mistake, maybe it was on purpose 🤷‍♀️ stick a massive number or wrap on it if you haven't already and see if it happens again. Bet it won't.

Itiswhysofew · 12/12/2025 11:17

Who knows what's going on in people's minds??

Pogsandfrogs · 12/12/2025 12:18

GreenGiant167 · 11/12/2025 15:32

Could the binmen have put it there? Don’t overthink it, just go and take it back.

You know when people just don’t even read the thread or even the opening post.

Maybe I should also ask for it back?

Imagine having the time and being this bitter that you comment this. Not pointless enough for you to just move on with your life was it.

they weren't odd but kind. A bin sitting out when every other one is away is inviting burglars to your house. They moved it onto their land so they didn't trespass onto yours.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What have you been smoking??

There was a food waste bin unclaimed on our street for ages. Some bloody busybody was evidently convinced it was ours and kept putting it on our drive. I kept putting it on the street, still empty of course, and they kept putting it back on the drive. Drove me nuts. I was taking it further and further.

But why didn’t you escalate this and place it on their driveway? 😂

I live in a flat so don't even have my own bin! 😂 I'm glad the neighbour brings out bins in every week ❤️

Friendlygingercat · 12/12/2025 13:07

So much trauma over bins. Mostly I bring mine in as son as the bin waggon has passed. However on 2 occasions over the past years mine has gone missing and I just took one belonging to another house. I keep the gates of my drive locked so no one can come on to see if I have their "missing " bin. Ive also had unclaimed bins left outside my gate and have adopted them. They all get on very well together and never argue.

mondaytosunday · 12/12/2025 13:13

It was probably a mistake. One person puts the bin back the other person sees a bin and absentmindedly takes it too. Are they labelled? Even so. On our street bins do go astray - even on a terraced street the bin men occasionally walk the bins to the lorry but then leave them in front of the wrong house - they usually find their way back to the rightful owner.

DressingGemma · 12/12/2025 22:25

Maybe the husbands as useless as my neighbours? She puts her bin back when she gets home then he comes home and takes the first bin he sees without checking and puts it back, next to his bin. Every blinking fortnight. We can get out before him and put ours back first but his poor neighbour the other side often gets her bin taken before she gets home. Wife apologies for him each time. Must cause some right arguments, I’m glad we live detached lol

Onlyonthetelly · 13/12/2025 10:03

Thing is though no one here can tell you why they did it so you would have to go round and ask them why they did. But what if they actually didn’t, and now you’ve taken it back there’s no evidence. You’ll either get an explanation or they won’t know what you’re talking about (and maybe post on here about their odd neighbours!)

My horrible ex neighbours stole my recycling bin and put it behind their gate (that was attached to my house). It had my number on it in huge letters. When they put it out the next time I took it back. I think they did it for attention and by then I refused to engage with them at all.

I did wonder when I first moved in why my bins were in the garage at the end of the garden so maybe they had form for bin stealing.

Go and get it back. And scream about it being your bin.

Ponoka7 · 13/12/2025 10:09

It's Christmas, they needed the extra space and probably planned to fill your one with the left over food/meat/carcasses. I'd treable the size of your house number on the side.
