To be utterly sick of this weather?

We always get plenty of people moaning on here whenever we're lucky enough to get some warm weather and a few days of sunshine in summer, so how about one for the utterly crap weather we have now?

Last weekend was dismal, it felt like it didn't get light all weekend - just constant rain/drizzle and grey skies. Today open the curtains to yet more of the same, Storm Bram this time. Feels like it's been weeks since I've had any sun on my face and my SAD is back with vengeance. It feels like we're just living through near-perpetual darkness at the moment, all the fields and woodland walks have been turned into a sludgey hell and I'm already mentally counting down to the brighter, fresher, happier days of spring. Please tell me I'm not the only one?

And before anyone pipes up with that they actually enjoy this weather and how great it is for getting 'cosy' etc, surely you can't be serious?!

YABU - I love this type of weather
YANBU - I just want to hibernate till spring time

I mean... It's winter. I don't want to be mean but does it come as a surprise to you every year?

No more a surprise surely than the people who complain about hot sunny weather in summer? 😉

I like it.
Its really rough where I am windy raining, darkish perfect for me.

Do you have to drive in heavy motorway traffic in the dark and driving rain every day?

toomuchfaff · 09/12/2025 13:47

YANBU

Two new bedding areas in dug in summer ☀️ have turned into mini moats, should have planted water lillies instead of foxglove..

I think they're a bit silly too 😄 But I think complaining about climate change IS valid. Summers are wildly hotter than they were just 15 years ago. And winters are ridiculously wet and mild now. It was 18C yesterday where I live. In mid December.

Not now but I use to and still it didnt change my mind.
I still love it, i dont mind the sun if its a dull grey day and it's not hot or bright.
Definitely prefer storms all the weather mn hates.

RampantIvy · 09/12/2025 14:08

Living in Yorkshire, so am glad we have had a lot of rain as our reservoirs were extremely low.

It is very mild today at 13 degrees, but wet and very windy.

RightOnTheEdge · 09/12/2025 14:11

I'd say, yes YABU because it's winter, but I'm also VU because I moan about the heat and sun in summer so I'm no better 😆

Dontyoulooktired · 09/12/2025 14:11

I’d rather rain than icy pavements to be honest.

The thing is it’s not “cosy”. It’s really mild! I like cold and dark, now that is the weather to hunker down or even enjoy a dusk walk. But rain, rain, rain and temperatures not unknown in August is getting me down.

Yes it’s the temperatures which worry me

Last winter I think I wore my winter coat 4 or 5 times at most, and sometimes didn't wear a coat at all!

The last time I had to wrap up for bonfire night was about 15 years ago.

Nofilter · 09/12/2025 15:13

Bleurgh! I’ve just ran back in my house after getting soaked and beat up by wind and rain trying to feed 4 horses I have at home it’s absolutely awful! Muddy, depressing and Bleurgh! 😂

ScrambledEggs12 · 09/12/2025 15:31

Yeah, I'm sick of it. Wind is 60mph here at the moment.

And 16 degrees in Huddersfield!

Last winter we had snow and ice that stayed for 10 days. It was the most snow we had had for years.

Pah! That's a mere breeze. We're in the Hebrides and about to get our arses kicked again.

TheaBrandt1 · 09/12/2025 17:23

It’s not “cosy” though because it’s not cold. It’s mild wet dark muddy and muggy. You’d have to be a supreme optimist (or mental) to find much pleasure in this combination.

Yeah, I'm north, but not that far north!!!

Bubble567 · 09/12/2025 19:24

I hate this weather, there isn't even any point in opening the curtains. I hate being cold and don't like going out in this weather. I get very inward in the winter and just don't want to socialise. In the summer I'm a completely different person. I often think I was born and bred in the wrong country!

Periperi2025 · 09/12/2025 19:42

Rumours of a major incident in north Wales (train vs tree, but doesn't sound terrible), also leisure centre roof is off, secondary school closed for damage, and it was recycling day in Bangor...

StripyHorse · 09/12/2025 21:50

YANBU although (at least where I am) we did have some lovely sunny, if freezing cold, days last week. The kind of day I wanted to escape in the middle of the day to go for a walk - knowing that by the time I finished work it would be going dark again.

I commented to DH the other day, this feels like Christmas weather. I only remember 1 or 2 snowy Christmases in my life, usually it's grey and damp and going dark by the time Christmas dinner is finished.

slackspot · 09/12/2025 21:52

I kind of love the stormy weather but I understand that for some it gets them down. Also I do need to go out and do some christmas shopping tomorrow which will probably be a nightmare if the trains are even on!

Timeforabitofpeace · 09/12/2025 22:27

I voted YANBU and you aren’t; I feel the same. That said, we have had such amazing weather this year, so I am trying to remind myself of that.

paddyclampster · 09/12/2025 22:52

YANBU. But things tend to happen in circles. It was a very dry spring and winter. Even autumn was dry and mild for a lot of it. I’d rather it pissed it down for the entire winter if it means we get a spring summer like we had this year!

We’ll be at the shortest day of the year soon which is when we go round the U bend!

No doubt you’ll get some of these cosy types coming on here to tell you about their twinkly lights and stew and hot bloody chocolate!!!

tobee · 09/12/2025 23:39

It makes me feel claustrophobic when it's raining.

I've had a year of dealing with hospitalisations of both my elderly parents; driving to see them at least weekly now to help them with resulting lifestyle challenges. It was so much less miserable doing it when, on my drive home, it was still light and the roads weren't treacherously wet. Less stressful.

tobee · 09/12/2025 23:47

It's amazing though that so many Christmas adverts still have tonnes of snow in them. Still it's one of the main images of Christmas.

I wonder if they'll give up on that eventually?
