I’m just focusing on these 2 channels cuz I was born early 70s and everyone says

‘remember when we had 3 channels’ and I be like -

“excuse me? We had 2! No one really watched bbc2 or Channel 4!’

so - I grew up with TWO channels - main ones BBC1 and ITV.

i don’t use Netflix or any other streaming services which are now to many to mention - just 2 channels for me - BBC1 and ITV.

So what do people think of what’s on offer this Xmas Day on these 2 channels?

Can someone share the schedules? I know I could Google it, but it's useful to have on the thread so we can all see what we're talking about.

Figgygal · 07/12/2025 08:48

Awful.
I'll watch Amandaland and that's about it

shellyleppard · 07/12/2025 08:48

Only good thing on BBC will be call the midwife...not checked anything else yet

menopausalmare · 07/12/2025 08:58

If it's BBC 1, it'll be yet another year of EastEnders, doctor who, call the midwife and Mrs Browns boys. And they wonder why people don't want to pay the licence.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 07/12/2025 09:01

Mostly repeats which I watched the first time round. I'm surprised that The Great Escape and The Sound of Music isn't there.
I will watch Carols at Kings on Christmas Eve because I love the choir's voices. And I know it isn't a repeat as such.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 07/12/2025 09:02

I LOVE miserable EastEnders Christmas day episodes 🤣🤣. I believe Nigel is going to die thank goodness. Hated this storyline. It was bizarre. Hoping it makes Phil go back on the booze. Love a drink Phil at Christmas.

Itv, never watch as I can't abide adverts.

So just easiest for me. And that will probs be on iPlayer. I don't tend to watch TV in real time tbh, which in itself is a luxury as the OP states, there was a time there was 2 main channels and if you wanted to watch a programme, you had to watch it then and there.

Yeah that’s the thing I ONLY watch TV in realtime!

But why! IPlayer and ITVX are easy to use and have loads of content

HostaCentral · 07/12/2025 09:19

Zero.. Absolutely nothing to watch. I don't watch any of those normally, let along Christmas Day. So much shit on main TV these days

Night Manager returns in the New Year, that's the only thing I'm waiting for.

It is rubbish. Last years Christmas Day on bbc one was ace. Not as good this year

Fallulah · 07/12/2025 09:20

We’ll watch Strictly, Midwife and Amandaland in between games. I don’t know anyone who thinks Mrs Brown’s Boys is funny.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 07/12/2025 09:20

And maybe not in real time depending what we are up to

although everything had to stop for gavin and Stacey kast year 😒

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 07/12/2025 09:21

Oh fuck i have just seen strictly….son in law loves that 😭

Notmyreality · 07/12/2025 09:22

And this is why people increasingly don’t watch regular tv anymore. I wouldn’t have a clue what’s on and now I’ve seen the list it just reinforces my decision to move to streaming. Only a matter of time for the regular tv model dies a long overdue death.
In this house we’re all looking forward to
Stranger Things on Netflix. Can’t wait!

Daytimetellyqueen · 07/12/2025 09:23

I’ll watch King’s Speech, Corrie, Eastenders, Strictly, Amandaland & probably Gladiators & Michael McIntyre. I do also quite like Mrs Brown’s Boys & happy to admit that in real life too Grin

So between presents, food, games, clearing up & a snooze, I don’t mind the TV schedule!

Oooh, spoiler - controversial!

@SaintlyLady, BBC2 was for Pot Black in the 1970s and early 1980s, if memory serves Smile All the greats from the old days and Tony Knowles’s fit arse.

SaintlyLady · 07/12/2025 09:24

@AhBiscuits

ok I’ve listed the programs from both channels from 3pm as I think this is the important bit - but can I just say

THERE IS NO TOP OF THE POPS AT 2PM ON BBC1!! THIS IS SACRILEGE, SURELY???!!

I MEAN TOTP ISN’T A PROGRAM! ITS AN INSTITUTION!!!!!!!

I quite like the BBC schedule. My kids enjoy gladiators, we will watch Strictly, I like Call the Midwife (though do find the Christmas ones a bit annoying). I also watch EastEnders and the Christmas one is usually a good one. I loved the first series of Amandaland, so BBC is the winner for me.

🤣 actually yes and Kenny Everett!

There is nothing on BBC1 worth watching. I usually watch Strictly but never bother with the Christmas one. Might watch the wheel but that’s background noise at best. The rest of the line up is shit.

Will anyone admit to watching the shite Mrs brown bollocks?
