To not have any idea about perfumes for 18 year olds

So what are your DDs wearing in terms of perfume? DD has asked for a new perfume - and said she’s leaving it completely up to me to choose (but would like a current trending perfume whatever that means?)
I am at a loss! Would you kind hearted people have any suggestions please? She’s not an overly girlie girl but does like to look (and smell ) nice if that means anything .

My 17 year old likes Caroline Hirera Good Girl and anything by Miss Dior

Whichone2024 · 06/12/2025 06:27

Was also going to say Carolina herrera good girl. Can’t go wrong with that!

topcat2014 · 06/12/2025 06:43

Dd asked for Ariana Grande not sure if there is more than one

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 06/12/2025 06:51

Dd is a bit older and wears Jimmy Choo. She tends to prefer sweeter perfumes. I think younger people sway away from the old traditional types such as Opium, Channel no. 5, Estée Lauder Youth Dew. That sort of thing.
One that springs to mind is Daisy, that seems a younger person’s perfume.

thank you! Appreciate the answers

DD likes vanilla based perfumes but that aren't too sweet. She also likes Miss Dior and dupes of that.

OneLilacHare · 06/12/2025 08:10

I would suggest doing a day where you go and try them on her skin. Some change scent a lot on different people's skin. I love the smell of Chanel No 5 in the bottle but on me it really doesn't work.

TheChicDreamer · 06/12/2025 08:16

I surprised dd1 with Angel once when she was 18. I’d meant to order Alien because she liked it on a friend 🤦‍♀️. Anyway, she loved it. Nowadays (she’s 21) she wears that or Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, Coco by Chanel, Safari by Ralph Lauren or Burberry’s Weekend. She’s a bit of a classics girl, she says she doesn’t want to smell like ‘everyone else’. That might not be v helpful to you.

DD2 is not a girly girl so loves unisex scents - her fave is Cypress and Grapevine by Jo Malone. It’s one of my faves too; I’ve never known anyone not to like it however it is v masculine compared to Ariana Grande etc.

TheChicDreamer · 06/12/2025 08:18

Oh, I wear Libre in various iterations and both the DDs LOVE that. It fact dd2 has the Platine version, which is v unisex compared to the originals which are sweet but also complex.

This.

Have a day together and then get the perfume.

Perfume blogger here. Most of the teenage girls I know all wear Ariana Grande Cloud. You could also choose Marc Jacobs Daisy in any form, Daisy Wild being the latest. As previous posters have said, Carolina Herrera Good Girl is a safe choice. Who can resist that gorgeous bottle!

jamimmi · 06/12/2025 09:56

Dd also 18 likes a vailla perfume shes asked for la vie etse belle vanilla.

LoverofRyanGosling · 06/12/2025 10:05

These are all fabulous suggestions! I like the idea of doing some perfume scouting very much but we won’t see each other until 23 Dec which leaves little time . I think I’m going to have to try and trust my delicate nose one this one 🤣🤣🤣 I hadn’t heard of the Ariana Grande one … I’m thinking that might be nice for my younger teen too. Thank you.

I'm doing this with my 17 year old DS today. He would like a cologne for Christmas. I told him that sometimes things smell different on your skin so we're trying a few on today. He normally just wears whatever deodorant I've bought him that's on special offer so its completely new!

Mine are between 14 and 18 and like Vera Wang Princess, Ariana Grande and any of the Billie Eilish perfumes.

I use Billie Eilish number 1 - vanilla smelling and have had lots of compliments on it!

I was just going to recommend the Billie Eilish one too. I’ve never had more people stop me and ask what perfume I’m wearing than when I’ve got that one on. I absolutely love it

Same with my teens -

I love AG mod blush (used to love cloud but it’s started smelling a bit off on my skin as I hit peri.m.)

Clara27 · 06/12/2025 10:50

My 17 yo loves Ariana Grande perfume Ari.

singthing · 06/12/2025 11:07

Isn't perfume entirely about personal preference, not age?

I can't see how being 18 or 28 or 88 will influence what your individual nose likes, and it's quite risky to assume you can select that for someone else.

stayok · 06/12/2025 11:13

Dd likes Prada Paradoxe.

IME celebrity perfumes are more for slightly younger girls.

Mermaidsarereal · 06/12/2025 11:16

My DD is 13 and it's all Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish and Ariana perfumes so may be a bit young for your 18 year old. I've recently discovered YSL Black Opium and am loving it! Also, Good Girl is a favourite too (my DD is forever pinching it!) Maybe a trip to Boots so she could test some that she likes?

It is now I’m old but when I was 18 I wanted the trendy perfume. At the time that was CK One, Nina Ricci les belles, l’air du teams, k’adore, gucci envy and so on. Can you guess how old I am!
