Doctor lying on report..

Anon662120622 · 04/12/2025 13:27

So I've sent a very blunt email with threats to report to the ombudsman and GMC after appointment with specialist.. Long story short - Shoulder trauma injury, felt shoulder pop out and tear. Still no improvement after 21 weeks, unable to lift arm out any further than 30 degrees. Extreme impact on quality of life

I've been to multiple appointments and four physio sessions (referred by doctor.) Last one was extremely dismissive and actually lied in the report. Physio wrote a letter suggesting he thought I had a paralysed muscle, muscle wastage and nerve damage. Doctor completely wrote that of as he "doesn't trust that physio" because he doesn't specialise in my kind of injury... Why send me there and waste two whole months then?! He told me I was holding my arm down.. it's completely deformed, as mentioned above, I felt it like pop out and it was instantly lower.

He lied on the report saying
*I could touch my thumb to my lower lumbar spine which was an outright lie. I can't get my arm to rotate backwards at all.
*He noted there was no muscle wastage - my shoulder is pretty much skin and bones, there has definitely been a massive amount of wastage.

  • noted no weakness of rotator cuff. I'd say not being able to lift my arm out any further than 30 degrees indicates a significant amount of weakness?

I've written a complaint email to the pals team noting that I'm going to complain to the ombudsman and GMC and will even go down the legal route if a delayed diagnosis leads to further problems/permanent paralysis.

I asked for a second opinion and they've just booked me back in to see the same doctor.. fastest response and appointment offer I've ever recieved I might add.

Am I being unreasonable to ask again for a second opinion from a different doctor?
I'm still going to attend the one with the same doctor and have said I'm requesting to be able to audio record this next appointment so any discrepancies can be properly noted with no denial. I'm also requesting for the report to be changed.

I believe the reason he said all of the lies as mentioned would be to downplay my injury to avoid having to take the reasonable steps to treat me properly? He referred me to a rehab saying they'd give me a diagnosis on my first appointment and he'd trust everything they say. They phoned to book my appointment and told me that the doctors massively lie and act like they're some kind of miracle workers. They said they're essentially just another physio and they wouldn't be able to give me a diagnosis.)

I've honestly just had enough, I'm going to have to pay to go private.. maybe our NI and Tax should be a thing of the past, or massively dropped as we obviously aren't recieving what it's all advertised to be. 🙄

I don’t know how rare or common it is for doctors to lie, but it does happen. Many years ago I stood on a rusty nail and it went right through my shoe and into my foot. After I pulled it out, I went to A&E for a tetanus shot. The doctor I saw gave me one, but didn’t examine my foot, which I thought was odd, but I was young and didn’t question it. I later looked at the letter she gave me to give to my GP and it said she had examined my foot and what the puncture wound looked like. She had completely made that up.

I think you're throwing the word 'lie' around very liberally.

Sometimes people just fuck things up. Doesn't mean they are lying.

These things are usually better explained by incompetence than malice.

Good luck.

@AstonScrapingsNameChange
The doctor did lie though.. he had said that I could put my thumb to my lower lumbar spine.. something I've not been able to do for now over 7 months. If that's not a lie, I don't know what is. He made something up that plane and simple is untrue.

@JC19827 they bloody well did! My impression on it would be that they're pissed off with being referred patients that they cannot help?!

OP NHS doctors can be and are regularly lying, incompetemt, arrogant bullies.
Fight now rather than when you need to for a medical negligence claim in 2 years.

Yes, some are saints. But too many are really despicable and the system protects them. Fight your corner. It's infuriating.

@hcee19 I have adapted very well. I'm able to tinker around and do little bits around the house, can now bathe ect independently with some help every now and then.

So glad to know that. The move you move around, the better for you. I wish you well. Take care 👍

I have two slipped discs in my neck one of which is pushing on my spinal cord.
After an initial diagnosis by CT/MRI I then waited 21 months to see a Neurosurgeon. When I finally saw one he shook his head and told me that if he had seen the MRI two years ago he would have recommended immediate surgery. I said, "Tell me about it! Constant pain in my shoulders and neck, pins and needles and numbness in my fingers and hands.
When I asked why it had taken so long to see someone he just shrugged his shoulders.
I asked if it might have repaired itself and he stated it was possible but very unlikely and surgery would still be more than likely. He also said that there was a strong possibility of long-term nerve damage.

I have been sent for an updated MRI and nerve conduction test.

I also mentioned that I had put a complaint in about my GP not assessing me properly after a Fit Note request.

When I read the report that he sent to my GP Surgery it was almost as if he was writing about another patient. He stated that surgery was unlikely to be needed and that it was highly unlikely that any long-term damage had occurred.
Most annoyingly he told my GP, "Don't worry. We will get this gentleman back to work as soon as possible." I have no idea why he wrote this as he declined to give me a Fit Note until he had the updated MRI. I can only think that it was some sort of, "Don't worry I've got your back, brother" to a fellow medic?

The DWP have assessed me and determined that I am Not Fit for Work due to a multitude of health conditions with my neck only being part of the reason so I no longer need a Fit Note.

I've had some excellent Consultants and GPs over the years but I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that some of them are just lying fuckers who will say whatever suits their needs at the time!

That's awful, I would take things further If I were you.. have your conditions worsened due to not being treated when you should have been?

I totally sympathise, the pain is so bad. I was told my my gp, it was probably back ache from lifting patients, he knew l am a nurse. I told him, l know it's a slipped disc, he dismissed me saying, your a nurse not a doctor. I paid for a private consultation, immediately he diagnosed 2 slipped discs. It was a relief, l could only sleep kneeling , with my body face down on a beanbag, l walked using my dd high chair, it had wheels on it, never been as unwell as l was, it was awful...Go for pre-op, bloods showed l had acute myloid leukemia, so they couldn't operate. Ten months later, got the all clear, told to wait another 5-6 months before surgery hopefully l then would be alot stronger...Time goes by, got a date for the surgery, went for my pre op, the leukemia had come back...Went through it all again, 6wks in hospital in isolation, my children were 4 & 2, they were not allowed to visit. After 6 wks in hospital, would go home for 2, and that would be my life for the next 6-8 months depending on so many things....After l got the all clear, and they said l was strong enough, l finally had the surgery, l could walk stood up, straight, without assistance, wonderful...If l hadn't paid for a private consultation, l definitely would not be here today...all the symptoms of leukemia, l put down to exhaustion and feeling very unwell thinking it was due to the slipped discs, l could not sleep, eat, nothing...apparently l did have bruising at the top of the back my legs , l didn't notice them because l could hardly stand up never mind twist my body.....At the end of the day, l am beyond grateful, to be here, but, it shouldn't have taken me, to go private, because the gp couldn't be arsed to talk to me properly. I complained to the gp practise, they were great, that gp no longer works there....

This won't suit everyone but in my case I wish that all face to face meetings with the GP were recorded just as phone calls are, and we may see an improvement in the medical records, which should in turn lead to better treatment. I have been in tears when I have read my records after eventually managing to get an Surgery appointment rather than phone, but sometimes it has not reflected what has been said at all. I have even seen entries that have stated that I have been examined physically by the Nurse who carries out a lot of the GPs patients - untrue for some of the entries. On other appointments they have stated that leaflets or written advice has been given - liars - no it hasn't nor has it been mentioned. On 1 occasions my information was added to another patient's records, who had the same name as me but a different address. I told the receptionists as they are usually the people who do the admin but they looked at me blankly even when I mentioned that GDPR had been breached and important private information belonging to me had been attached to someone else's records. The recent breach has been someone else's medical information being placed in my records which I can see when I go online to order medication or check for any letters following Hospital appointments. I will speak to my GP about this in the next week, if I am lucky enough to get an appointment. Some people may not want their appointments recorded but as it is in your file anyway and can assist in your treatment as more practioners may take more notice of you and what you are saying if they know it is recorded, I for one would welcome it.

It's hard to tell with the amount of painkillers that I am on! I have periods when it is less painful then I can wake up one morning with a severe pain somewhere in my shoulders which lasts for a few days or weeks. If I tilt my head right back my fingers tingle.

This literally broke my heart to read.. like genuinely bought me to tears. I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. No one should have to, but all while having such young children too. I really admire how strong you are, what lucky children to have such a soldier for a mum.

I really wish you all the best, it sounds like you deserve it!
