To pull a sickie…

Because I just can’t be bothered?

I’m supposed to be working a 7-4:30 shift tomorrow. I hate the role I’m working in because it’s so high pressured. AIBU to just call in sick?

What’s the impact on other workers?

What’s the impact on other workers?

not much. I’m just there to shadow rather than fully work

Yanbu babe, live your best life xx

LiveLuvLaugh · 03/12/2025 18:41

It’s a slippery slope. If you give in to it tomorrow you’ll find it harder to go back and easier to throw a sickie again. Lean in. It will soon be over. Dig deep.

So what?

Or just find another job, pulling a sickie is a bit shit

JudgeBread · 03/12/2025 19:01

If it won't impact other people and you're not likely to lose your job over it I would honestly. Fuck it, it's one day.

Is it something you're hoping to move away from soon? It's miserable doing something you hate for a living.

So what?

Hmm

RampantIvy · 03/12/2025 19:02

Hmm

I’m not the type of person who would do it all the time. I just really can’t be bothered for it tomorrow

How long have you worked there? Will you get paid if you’re off sick?

PumpkinPie2016 · 03/12/2025 20:03

You can't pull a sickie just because you can't be bothered!
We all have days when we don't feel like it, but we still get up and go to work.

I manage a team, this week, one day, I had 3 people off. All absolutely genuine reasons, but it is still very stressful to manage it. I'm a teacher so work needs setting for their classes, updating them where things are up to etc for their return.

I wouldn't ring in sick unless I was genuinely too ill to go.

Hamiltonfan · 03/12/2025 20:12

Just leave if you don't like it. Your employer will know you're taking a sickie. It's a shitty thing to do.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 03/12/2025 20:19

Stop wasting everyone’s time and just quit. Let someone who actually wants the job do it.

youalright · 03/12/2025 20:20

Do it, Do it. Hot chocolate Christmas films enjoy your day 🥳

ilovesooty · 03/12/2025 20:22

So will you get paid while you're pretending to be sick?

pondscaters · 03/12/2025 20:28

I think that this very much depends on your role. In some jobs I would never ever do this, in others I don’t think it’s the end of the world.
It’s a bit like how in some jobs you have to be focused 100% of the time while you are there, others, even if you are physically at work you can afford to take it easy for a couple of hours without any repercussions.

GeorgeClooneyshouldhavemarriedme · 03/12/2025 20:28

If it's literally because you just can't be bothered, then yes, YABU.
Most people can't be arsed to go to work every, single, effing day... but needs must.

However if you are going through something and it'd do you good to take a break that won't impact anyone else, then go for it.

balanceandfall · 03/12/2025 20:31

Nobody ever said on their death bed I wish I’d been at work more.

Hamiltonfan · 03/12/2025 20:54

There are thousands looking for work. If you don't want to be there let someone else have the job.

Yawn.

LiveLuvLaugh · 04/12/2025 06:04

@alwayseatingnevermoving “so what”? Because lying and going off sick is dishonest and fraudulent if you are paid. Throwing sickies is a bad habit to get into.

lilybit2025 · 04/12/2025 06:06

I did the exact same a few weeks ago. Haven't taken a sick day in two years and woke up and thought I just really do not want to work today. It's fine OP, life is short and one day won't hurt anyone.

Justlostmybagel · 04/12/2025 06:07

Get yourself to work. Start looking for a new job tonight.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 04/12/2025 06:09

You should leave. Sounds like it’s not for you. It’s hard work for others when you pull a sickie with cover, admin, return to work interviews etc

EleanorReally · 04/12/2025 06:40

dont do it
go to work
face up to your responsibilities
