To suggest that all the people who know people who are definitely faking disability for benefits should report them.

So many people post online about knowing a person or family, some apparently know multiple people who are lying to claim PIP or DLA for their children.
If you know this for a fact as us claimed then you should report them.

Wow. More disability hate.

The op is definitely not advocating disability hate,

It's pretty much everyone isn't it? I mean everyone knows how simple claiming pip is! You just go to the doctor and say 'I'm a bit sad' and you get full rate and a free car and are automatically £71000 better off than a HARD WORKING person the Very Next Day!

What absolute BOLLOCKS!!

You clearly don't have a clue about PIP, 'wossupthen', unless you were being sarcastic, which I'm not sure about? If you weren't being sarcastic, then let me educate you. You DO NOT get a FREE car!! Depending on the car you chose, many people have to pay an up front payment, on my last car this was £4,000. I hand over ALL of the 'higher rate mobility component' of my PIP payment each month towards my car. I could chose not to have a Motability car, and it would save me a lot of money which I could spend on food, heating, or even a holiday, if I could physically manage to have one, but instead I chose to spend this part of my benefit on a car, which needs to be the right height for me to get into without causing me severe pain, and is comfortable enough not to exacerbate my condition, in order that on the odd days when I'm not in absolute agony, and stuck at home in bed, I can actually pretend that I'm an able bodied person like you, and go out to see the world for an hour or two! When I'm not well enough to use it myself, my husband is allowed to use it, to go shopping, and do other tasks for ME that I can't do myself.

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 03/12/2025 17:06

I’m not reporting the people I know because it’s none of ny business. And I wouldn’t blow up the lives of their children. Doesn’t mean they’re not committing benefit fraud if that’s the point you’re trying to make

Crofthead · 03/12/2025 17:10

How could you possibly know? Are you suggesting that you have more medical insight into their conditions than the health professionals who have diagnosed them and provided evidence
to support claim?

Haha yes you don’t need to even have any evidence - just google whatever condition takes your fancy. DWP won’t even question it. Then you can start booking the holidays anf getting the BMWs.

HayceeDeeCee · 03/12/2025 17:21

I've reported someone I know who hasn't worked for 11 years (,did have an illness but is 100% recovered) she runs a busy home based business that is all cash and was able to buy a motorhome recently and potters off every weekend with her dog. Claims PIP and UC.

In mumsnet world everyone has in depth medical knowledge and additionally knows exactly how much income everyone receives!

Because whenever someone comes on here saying they know someone who is fraudulently claiming benefits and ask if they should report them, the vast majority of people tell them that they shouldn’t and it’s none of their business!!

They are the types who shoould be complaining about benefit scrougers then, as they seem to condone it.

TigerRag · 03/12/2025 17:28

Plantatreetoday · 03/12/2025 16:57

Surely it’s the opposite of disability hate to report those who claim fraudulently

But you don't need evidence. I was reported because I have the nerve not to be someone's view of what a disabled person looks like. But you can't see the part of my brain that hasn't formed properly or the nerve damage in my ears and eyes

ComfortFoodCafe · 03/12/2025 17:29

Don’t see why not, I have reported a few people for working cash in hand/not declaring tax. Works botj ways…. Wink

This. I’d rather the system wasn’t so easy for some people to play but I’m not spending my time and effort on getting involved in other people’s shit

in the case of my relative it’s almost impossible to prove anyway, it’s not as simple as “she says she uses a wheelchair but in fact doesn’t”

I presume that the people that award the benefits have all the relevant information to make a decision. It's not my business to decide if someone is entitled - not everyone's disability or illness is visible

It really isn't protecting disabled people

If People suspect someone of fraud they should report them
its breaking the law

If people are innocent they have nothing to be worried about
but no one should be put off reporting ‘ just in case’

Would you turn a blind eye to suspicious loud noice next door because ‘ it may be nothing’ .

UserFront242 · 03/12/2025 17:41

To be 100% sure,, you would need to know what benefits they get, what health conditions they have, and how they meet the descriptors for those benefits.
I can not imagine that anyone knows what descriptors their neighbour meets if they get PIP or UC. That sort of information would have between them, their GP and the DWP.
There is also a lot of misinformation about certain health conditions too. Many wrongly believe that someone with agoraphobia is stuck in their house 24/7. Some agoraphobic people to do go out, but to their "safe" spaces, and they would have worked hard to get to that point.
There is also ignorance about how health conditions can fluctuate. One day, someone can be in a wheelchair. The next, they might just be using a stick. They could be up and dancing at a wedding, then be unable to move for days after.

I have seen people on here who have said they have reported someone, and "nothing was done". For starters, you wont be told of the outcome of an investigation. If nothing was done, then chances are no fraud was found.

Do you realise how frightening it is to possibly lose your benefits because some arsehole who barely knows you, can just report you like that? No I'm not doing anything wrong but do you realise that shit like this can make some people's illnesses worse?

No you are saying anybody who doesn’t look disabled ie has a hidden disability should be reported. What the actual hell!

SkylarkKitten · 03/12/2025 17:48

I think this is a hard one.

I don't feel right to report my 'friend' because I'd feel guilty if she got into any kind of trouble.

However, to claim mobility PIP whilst able to stand on your feet in the cold, at night, outside, for 6hrs at a time for work duties doesn't sound right to me. It doesn't feel like mobility PIP is needed. This is a new job.

I get higher rate mobility PIP. I can't leave the house for most of winter, even accompanied. I can't stand in the house for long periods. I know how humiliating and personal the questions were.

I have stopped responding when she asks how my pain or symptoms are. I feel like she's making a mental note of my answers. Something just doesn't feel right to me.

However, I cannot report someone on my gut feeling, even if, in my opinion, no one with severe mobility issues - enough for PIP - would be able to take up a job like that. I may well be wrong you see.

Under similar circumstances, without proof, would you report her?
