to think £200 to clean windows is ridiculous

winwoes · 02/12/2025 12:17

I may be out of touch but 5 quotes to clean windows range between £185-£230

For context we live in a city in a typical 4 bed victorian terrace and the quote was to clean inside and out.

AIBU to think these quotes are ridiculous.

I know rates near you won’t be the same, but for comparison, I pay £27 a month for a three bed two-storey house, with five large windows and five glass doors. When I was injured recently, I got a quote for cleaning inside, and it was £50 an hour. So at 2.5 hours, that’d be £125 of your quote.

YellowCherry · 02/12/2025 12:49

I agree with pp - it's the inside that is adding to the price. Get outside only done.

LizzieSiddal · 02/12/2025 12:50

We have ours done very 6 weeks. Outside only, a 4 bed detached with large patio doors in kitchen diner. It’s £30, however it takes only around 20 mins. I don’t understand how it could take 2 hours to do inside and out!
Did you ask for anything else to be cleaned other than the glass like sofias, ledges etc?

HeddaGarbled · 02/12/2025 12:51

Yes, it’s the inside that’s the problem. Outside, they can do with the spray brushes, so it’s quicker and easier.

xyzandabc · 02/12/2025 12:53

Regular window cleaners just do the outsides. They can slop water about liberally and take a minute or two per window.

Inside windows are a whole different ball game, you can't just throw water about, or keep your wet outdoor shoes on. They need a cloth, more elbow grease and drying properly.

I wouldn't get the same company to do both, as others have suggested.

For context we have 13 large windows (Edwardian house) and patio doors.

Bubblesgun · 02/12/2025 12:57

Yep thats what inpaid for in and out for a 4 beds victorian terrace in london.

user86397409754 · 02/12/2025 12:59

We pay £22 a month outside only, it’s a biggish house, 25 windows. The chap is here about half an hour and does nearly all the neighbours too so saves him travelling time.
We had the inside done after building works, the type where everything is covered in greasy dust, I think that was £150-200ish. And 10yrs ago so thats probably about right - the inside is a lot more work as its not a brush on a hosepipe!

PlasticineKing · 02/12/2025 13:07

I would suggest it’s the insides that is pushing the right up. That’s more for a domestic cleaner to keep on top of?

Committing to a regular just outdoors (every 4-6 weeks) is likely to help too. Mine is £10 and it takes them about 10 minutes

ChocolateCinderToffee · 02/12/2025 13:13

I used to pay £20 a time for a two-bed house plus conservatory, inside only. It took half an hour to do. On that basis your quotes seem steep. I now leave my windows to it and just scrape off bird splats as and when.

Northumberlandisbest · 02/12/2025 13:16

I have 5 sets of patio doors, 5 bedrooms (3 with full height windows) and a six metre stretch of full height glass in both sitting room and dining room. I pay £30. We are all ground floor but now I’m thinking I should offer him a rise. We are in the north east so not paying silly London prices.

hiredandsqueak · 02/12/2025 13:18

East Midlands 4 bed house all windows sills and doors £10 monthly here. From what I remember a one off clean was £15.

MyCatLovesCardboard · 02/12/2025 13:22

Rates are going to vary nationwide so there’s no point telling OP that yours cost £5 every month.

Buscobel · 02/12/2025 14:05

We pay £25 for a three bed house and he does soffits and the garage door. I do the inside with a window vac.

peachescariad · 02/12/2025 14:08

£25 every 6 week, 4 bed detached, 2 sets of French doors, front and back door and all the sills. In surrey. Your quote is outrageous!

SixthWorstOption · 02/12/2025 14:11

They're taking the mick there. We pay £20 for a four-bedroom with conservatory!

CeciliaMars · 02/12/2025 14:52

We are a 4 bed semi detached and pay £30 for all outside windows, including bifold doors. I’ve never had it done, but he says it would be the same again for inside. South east commuter town.

Papyrophile · 02/12/2025 14:56

I have 14 windows, most of them nearly nine feet wide, and I pay £25 per clean about every six weeks. But I clean the insides!

alatusblack · 02/12/2025 15:03

I have a 4 bed house with a large modern extension made mainly of glass. I pay about £130 for inside and out.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 02/12/2025 15:19

My 1930's 4 bed has so many windows.

My front room has a massive bay at the front and also two large windows along one side. Dining room has two large windows down one side plus French doors.

My bedroom has a large bay plus one large side window. DD's room has floor to ceiling glass and french doors to the front.

Windows absolutely everywhere in this house and we pay £18 a month for the extension pole method. Would be much more for a traditional window cleaner. We paid a man £15 for that when we bought the house 20 years ago but he retired.

For inside and out?

AdjustingVideoFrameRate · 02/12/2025 15:27

Crazy prices. I pay around £20 to £30 for a three bed terrace (outside only).

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/12/2025 15:29

I pay £20 every six weeks for a 3 storey end terrace. That includes skylights.

Hotpants123 · 02/12/2025 15:30

Big 4 bed detached house here, 2 sets of bifolds cleaned for £25, done once a month. Takes 30 mins at most.

kittywittyandpretty · 02/12/2025 15:30

That sounds like a. I don’t want the job quote. I do those all the time. If I don’t want a job I’ll quote an extra extraordinary amount and then if some sucker pays it, I’ll have to do it but I don’t want to.
