to think £200 to clean windows is ridiculous

winwoes · 02/12/2025 12:17

I may be out of touch but 5 quotes to clean windows range between £185-£230

For context we live in a city in a typical 4 bed victorian terrace and the quote was to clean inside and out.

AIBU to think these quotes are ridiculous.

£30 monthly. 4 windows front and back and French doors.
It is 3 storeys

Dollymylove · 02/12/2025 16:06

Northern town.10 quid for 5 windows and a conservatory. Outdoor only. They use those extendable brushes so no ladders used.

SockBanana · 02/12/2025 16:07

I have 12 windows and a conservatory and pay £23 for a clean every 6 weeks - outside only.
Doesn't include the conservatory roof or any velux. I'm also not in London (but fairly close)

£200 seems a lot - is that through a window cleaner or a cleaning company?
How regularly would they be cleaned?

Boomer55 · 02/12/2025 16:11

Blimey - I pay £8 for 5 outside windows to be cleaned. I clean my own inside. In London. That sounds a lot. 😳

susiedaisy1912 · 02/12/2025 16:13

Is this a joke? We have 12 windows in our house and get charged £25. We live in the Bristol area.

youalright · 02/12/2025 16:19

I paid £50 for in and out 3 bed house but I'm up north

alecks · 02/12/2025 16:29

Is the quote for a year? I’m in Scotland and pay £7 for 7 windows:

DeftGoldHedgehog · 02/12/2025 16:32

What? Are they cleaning windows or replacing them?

Our four bed semi detached costs £12.50 a time - outside only. SE of England, 22 miles from London and an expensive area to live.
Inside is easy. Mr Muscle spray and some kitchen roll, 5 minutes per window.

RealEagle · 02/12/2025 16:38

£22 every 2months for 3storey town house .Outer london borough .I do inside myself with a karcher window vac.

IcyPuddles · 02/12/2025 16:40

If everyone charges about the same, then that’s the going rate for the job.

goingtotown · 02/12/2025 16:52

Probably the quotes are high because they don’t want the job.

WonderingAndOverthinking · 02/12/2025 16:54

It doesn’t sound like a “regular clean” - regular cleans are when you have the same cleaners come each time - but getting quotes makes it sound like you are looking for a new previously un-used cleaner?
My partner owns a window cleaning company and the first clean always costs more as it is more work. His prices then drop if they employ him for more “regular” cleans on a schedule as the windows don’t need as much work.

gogomomo2 · 02/12/2025 16:56

We pay £25 for the outside only, do insides ourselves or you could get an inside cleaner to do them

AuntieDolly · 02/12/2025 17:01

That’s seems bonkers! Is it the annual charge for an 8 weekly clean?

StickWars · 02/12/2025 17:08

Could you pay a window cleaner for the outside and a household cleaner for the inside?

I pay £7.50 for the front of mine (or I'd have to be in to let them at the back). When I was cleaning, I'd expect to do the insides in that sort of sized home in an hour max if fairly clean already and regular. Cleaner's rates will obviously vary by area, but it's likely going to be much cheaper if you split it as 2 types of cleaning like this.

They can just say ‘sorry not available’ no need to make ridiculous quotes.

winwoes · 02/12/2025 12:20

probably around 2 hours maybe just over.

Ours take just over 2.5 hours to wash with one of the long machine things - and it’s £65. You are being fleeced!

£190-£230 a month to clean the windows - except the one that is hard to reach apparently. they wouldn't do that one

Would you be better off with a quote from a window cleaner for the outside, and a separate quote from a cleaning company for inside?
I assume your quote is just a cleaning company/cleaners and not window cleaners specifically, which is probably bumping up the price as it's not an everyday thing they do?
And window cleaners wouldn't usually do inside, so that could bump the price up.

fatphalange · 02/12/2025 20:21

If you live in Hardwick hall it’s fine and what I’d expect.
I pay a tenner.

SixthWorstOption · 03/12/2025 09:07

Cosyblankets · 02/12/2025 15:25

For inside and out?

Just outside

Glamba · 03/12/2025 09:14

Yes it's because they don't want to do the inside.

Get a window cleaner to quote for outside only, and get a cleaner to do the inside. Even if you had to book a regularly fortnightly slot with the cleaner, it would work out a lot cheaper and you could get them to do some other bits and bobs you don't often get round to.

WinterHangingBasket · 03/12/2025 09:18

This is because it is both. I have just arranged this for my elderly mum. It is about £200 for outside and inside, and is very labour intensive. I go over to help as everything has to be moved off windowsills and it saves him time and her money if I do it. There is no option to use a pole system inside so everything is manual.

We have agreed that she will only get the insides done once every 6 months, and then he can do the outsides every 6-8 weeks. For that he is charging about £60, but that is also for manual, not pole.

I would adjust the frequency, especially the insides, or get that bundled in with a domestic clean.
