The elves have arrived, they’ve brought advent calendars, fluffy socks, Christmas teddies, Christmas pyjamas and Christmas bedding and a Christmas book to read :) not all new things I’ve got lots from charity shops so old but new to us :) I’m so excited I love seeing my kids happy faces - tell me about your Christmas traditions!

Oh bore off. Xmas stated last week in my house. People are different, deal with it!

I hope u have a happy Christmas.
Please be aware that Christmas isn't enjoyed by everyone, for valid reasons.
It isn't about being boring

mumofoneAloneandwell · 01/12/2025 13:03

Yanbu 🥰🎄

BurntBroccoli · 01/12/2025 13:04

I’m looking forward to the time off but not keen on Christmas itself since being a single parent has meant I spend a lot of it alone.

But 99% of British people aren't Christians.

Where have you got that figure from?

The latest census figures show that 46% of the UK are Christians.

Catcatcat111 · 01/12/2025 13:08

I think the OP is excited for the festive season. Me too! I love 1st December, advent calendars, a nicer breakfast and starting the countdown to Christmas!

25percentoffeverything · 01/12/2025 13:10

Cynic17 · 01/12/2025 12:47

Absolutely this. Christmas starts on 25th December (I'll make an exception for 24th, when the tree can go up, good dinner, midnight Mass).
It never started on 1st December when I was a kid.

When I was a kid, it started with St Nicholas Day - I'm just starting mine a week earlier

Justlostmybagel · 01/12/2025 06:47

All the fun suckers are here, I see. Merry Christmas, OP!

There’s some miserable fuckers in this world 😂😂

sashh · 01/12/2025 04:56

OP I'd make a bet that you are also one of the people who takes the tree and decorations down in the middle of Xmas.

What, at midday on Christmas Day or something? 😂

25percentoffeverything · 01/12/2025 13:18

OP, I am with you. The Christmas SEASON if it's more acceptable to some people has officially started.

I don't bother with Christmas stuff much, apart from the advent calendars and the elf but it's the beginning of all the Christmas activities and events, and the elf makes me laugh so I will be doing it for many years to come.

From Boxing Day we start looking forward to New Year'S Eve and January things, so the tree and everything can go, Christmas has gone. Who cares if people do it diferently?

Coffeeandbooks88 · 01/12/2025 13:19

Christmas does not start tomorrow. Advent started yesterday however.

DappledThings · 01/12/2025 13:21

25percentoffeverything · 01/12/2025 13:11

Middle of Christmas would be NYE which is the day the seven swans start swimming.

BerthaFlapjack · 01/12/2025 13:27

I'm far more interested in the fact that it's only twenty days to the Solstice which to me is more meaningful than Christmas.

But, it is important to remember that we all do things differently, nobody is right or wrong whatever they celebrate and whenever they start and finish.

Kindness and acceptance should be our watchwords.

in your house, in my house and many others, it starts on the 01st December.
or the 06th

Or any day you want really

Xmasdemon · 01/12/2025 13:28

I'm thinking of getting Christmas bedding when I get my tree next week. It might be a nice touch

Knew a pleasant thread would get detailed on AIBU! It’s generally negativity or nothing on here OP but of course you’re NBU. I love Christmas too. Our elves have also arrived and DC were thrilled to see their gifts and open their advent calendars, although youngest DS wants everyone’s!

Gifts? Are these things in the advent calendar?

FuzzyPuffling · 01/12/2025 14:47

It's in no way negative to point out it's now Advent, not Christmas.
Christmas is a wonderful, joyful festival...its just not here yet!

Do you celebrate your birthday four weeks early?

Millytante · 01/12/2025 14:54

AngelinaFibres · 01/12/2025 13:00

But 99% of British people aren't Christians.

Blimey, are you sure about this? (Not that I’m concerned from a religious point of view)

Sartre · 01/12/2025 15:03

Perhaps the pedants screaming about advent would prefer we adopt the American method of referring to it as the holidays. The holiday season has begun- better?!

Nobody is screaming. Just enjoying the accuracy and mildly grumbling about inaccuracy.

Respectfully maybe they shouldn't click on a thread for people who are excited for Christmas then?

I'm happy too OP! Tree is up and I've worn one of my festive dresses to work today 🎄

And 99% of statistics are made up on the spot. Grin

ForMyNextTrickIWillMakeThisVodkaDisappear · 01/12/2025 15:43

There’s a lot of really serious people on this thread! The OP starts enjoying Christmas 1st December, others don’t agree. So what? Maybe OP isn’t Christian and doesn’t give a shit about advent? Many people don’t apart from making sure they’ve got chocolate advent calendars to hand and that’s ok.

BringBackCatsEyes · 01/12/2025 08:39

It’s just me an DS 16 at home. DS 26 will be home from travelling on Boxing Day.
So no elves or Father Christmas magic, but after some months of unemployment following residency I learnt last week that I have secured work.
So yes, considering how difficult the season this year might have been, I am now very much looking forward to having some fun evenings, buying Christmas food and being able to buy presents guilt free.

Good for you.😀 Merry Christmas🎄

mrswhiplington · 01/12/2025 15:58

We'll be having a quieter Christmas this year as DD has moved out and is now a police officer, working shifts dealing with all the drunks and burglars nicking people's Christmas presents.😟She will be putting our tree up for us though as she's always loved doing it.

Fontet · 01/12/2025 16:17

Enjoy the children being at home etc and xmas with them. Before you look around they are grown up and have left home and you simply become an inconvenience and a second thought
