To think I can get rid of a painful cold by Monday?

WolfWolfieWolf · 29/11/2025 08:05

I have such an important meeting on Monday and I have finally caught a cold at work mixing with cold ridden people.

It's sort throat, ear ache, and a chest sore ness that make me cough

Is it feasible I can veto this thing by Monday or so colds have a lifespan

Basically this meeting is not happening and it took ages to arrange

I'm like a sheepdog herding all the participants into one room and now I'm ill

Plenty of rest and berocca and you should be over the worst of it by Monday

JudgeBread · 29/11/2025 08:09

Rest as much has humanly possible, stay very well hydrated, gargle with salt water for the throat, eat nutritious and balanced food to give your body the best fuel it can get. You can't veto a cold completely but you can give your body as much of the stuff it needs to fight it as possible.

You'll probably still be sick on Monday but I tend to find colds are worse the first couple of days so hopefully you'll be over the worst by then.

WolfWolfieWolf · 29/11/2025 08:15

Thank you. I'm getting the berocca
Never heard of it before. But pharmacy will help me

I will rest salt water and hope it's vile all weekend and I will be frail but not sick looking by Monday

I want to cry

Just life is so bloody busy and work so demanding

It's like I have no time to be ill

I needed to do so much housework this weekend too.

I'm having a hot bath and a cry

That will loosen my sinus 😆🤔😢😢

Try Boots first defense nasal spray, berroca (the fizzy tablets), plenty of fluids and rest.

HermioneWeasley · 29/11/2025 08:18

Fuck the house work

sciaticafanatica · 29/11/2025 08:21

Get first defense spray… lots of fluids, take painkillers, vics on chest. Rest, rest, and more rest

WolfWolfieWolf · 29/11/2025 08:23

I will spend next two days resting
I am doing all of the above I am desperate to be well or at least not sounding or visually looking ill by Monday

I know that housework can fuck off
I hate HW
But my house looks like a pigsty
Due to me working late all the time and nothing gets done at home
Pets are the problem..
Shedding dog hair everywhere

I need a cleaner

I need a payrise

I need a second marriage with a very rich kind man

I’m a day ahead of you and have something important tomorrow. I felt pretty awful yesterday but feeling less sorry for myself today. The worst bit is the fuzzy head now but I’m hoping that will be gone tomorrow or it will respond well to painkillers.

cooldarkroom · 29/11/2025 08:27

I take big dose of Vit C (in the morning) as soon as symptoms start. (ALTRIENT Liposomal Vit C 1000mg, Sachet)

Koolandorthegang · 29/11/2025 08:28

Do some nasal rinses as well with salty water. They are great for helping to shift nasty colds. They are horrible to do though. I scream for my mammy the whole time

Purplebunnie · 29/11/2025 08:30

You can get oils to put in your bath for when you have a cold - I think lavender based

Don't forget the Vicks or Olbas Oil in a bowl of hot water and towel over head and breath in the fumes. Not too much Olbas oil it will blow your head off 1 - 2 drops I think. Do this late at night and never go out after you've done this - well not until the next day

Jakemans for the sore throat, they do cherry ones, honey and lemon, can't remember the flavour of he the black ones- they are very good and they taste nice. I think they are better than Tunes used to be

Olbas Oil on a tissue in the bedroom when you go to bed at night

Edited for typo

upsofloating · 29/11/2025 08:32

Get better soon.

curious79 · 29/11/2025 08:35

Eat cleanly, I would say 100% fruit and veg, fresh raw carrots. I always find that helps knock any cold on the head too

Ilovemyshed · 29/11/2025 08:36

Ignore the housework, or just do one room that you can relax in.

Hot bath
Paracetamol and decongestant - so lemsip max or similar which will help any fever and clear the fuzzy head
Broncho stop for any cough
Eat a hot curry for dinner
If you have the energy, boil up some chicken joints, carrots, onions and celery, strain and season the broth and drink that.
Sleep

Op I know you got it in work but if you’re not better don’t go in, you’ll just give it to other people. I think this is your body’s way of telling you to slow down tbh

ScaryM0nster · 29/11/2025 08:39

Steaming your head will help with shifting it too.

ShesTheAlbatross · 29/11/2025 08:40

I don’t think taking vitamins once you’re already ill has been shown to do anything at all.

Rest rest rest. Lots of water. Medication (decongestant, painkillers, cough suppressant - whatever you need) for Monday.

watchuswreckthemic · 29/11/2025 08:41

Also avoid dairy as much as you can, makes you mucusy! Fingers crossed it shifts for you

RacingAcrossTheSofa · 29/11/2025 08:41

You should be past it enough to be functional on Monday. I agree with vitamin c, a very big dose of that helps me to knock out a cold. Good food, lots of water, lots of rest.

Get Monday out of the way. Then collect yourself and make a plan to tackle the house.

WolfWolfieWolf · 29/11/2025 08:42

If I'm still coughing I won't go in...I can't remember the last time I was off sick.

It's very busy at work and it's mostly teaching classes so not going in causes all kinds of pressure on colleagues.

It's classic to get ill end of semester

I'm a few weeks early

I let down my guard !

Realistically, the cough will probably be the thing that lingers even if you’re feeling fine. I doubt the cough will be gone by Monday.

TheRealGoose · 29/11/2025 08:46

Op, I’m similar at the moment, my throat feels awful, I suspect it’s Covid, but I’ve learned the sweet spot is both nurofen and paracetamol. You can take them both together I don’t at exactly the same time, but I take every three hours, so nurofen at 9am, paracetamol at noon, nurofen at 3 and so on.

it really helps,

Huddledinmyhoodie · 29/11/2025 08:46

My kid came down with it and has a huge exam Monday. What we did was rest, lemsip for the throat, nasal wash and then otravine at night to unblock the nose, soup and tea, lots fluids. Today hes feeling much better but has that rattly cough so exputex to tackle that. But it could have just been the rest. I wish I had me to look after me when im sick!

Huddledinmyhoodie · 29/11/2025 08:48

Oh and vicks. Inhaled and on feet
