I’m currently in the middle of selling my house and renting a new place. I’m getting rid of some furniture and other stuff. I’ve managed to sell quite a bit and have explained to people that I don’t live at the property right now and asked them to arrange a time as I don’t want to be waiting around for hours. I’ve told them I’ll be coming up especially for it (so basically, don’t show up too early or too late without checking first because I won’t be there, and I won’t hang around for ages either).

I thought I was pretty clear about that tbh, but I guess not. So many people have shown up 20 minutes early, which has been really awkward when I’ve arrived and found them just standing there knocking on the door. Anyway, this morning a woman messaged me about an item. Again, I explained that I don’t live there and asked if 7pm would work for her. She agreed, but then at 6:10, she messaged me saying she was outside and asked where I was. I replied 10 minutes later, saying I wasn’t there yet (clearly) and reminded her we agreed on 7. She ignored that part and then asked if I could drop it off at her house instead as she’d gone home. No please or offer to pay extra for the trouble. I told her no, it’s collection only, and tbh, why should I be out of pocket for her mistake (which I don’t even think was a mistake as she didn’t acknowledge it). I might have come off a bit rude, but the cheekiness of it really pissed me off. She then bombarded me with a load of messages, which I ignored.

Now she’s gone and posted my name and a picture of me in the group, calling me a time waster and rude 😂

AIBU? Why don’t people listen?

Because they are thick & self-obsessed. Nothing is ever their fault, and we all exist to service them. We are invisible unless we can be used in some way. There are too many of these epsilons in our brave new world, I suggest copy & pasting your original instructions with caps lock on, & continue sticking to your guns.
Good luck, I'd rather let the Council pick it up than deal with these arrogant ignorants.

I probably wouldn't tell a load of people that the house is sitting empty though OP.

My thought exactly.

Ineedtoseetobelieve32 · 28/11/2025 23:28

OP, I haven’t RTFT but if someone hasn’t already posted this hilarious song about selling a bed you must watch it! Edited to add it doesn’t seem to let me post - google “Where is bed Lou Wall”!

I hope you have a factual, reasonable (not rude) response to her comment! If you do, no one will think you are unreasonable.

I agree. Just state the facts and then leave it.

Facebook is often horrible, it's not just you so don't worry - and it will all be forgotten in no time.

Did folk like this always exist, or do we just notice them more since social media existed. Some of the CF/entitled buyer stories are very funny, but it's scary to think that (most of them) are real people.

I think something has shifted in attitudes from about 10 years ago and covid seemed to make even more people a lot more entitled and rude I think. Just observations where I live at the moment anyway :-)

I stopped selling on fb because some people are unhinged. It’s like they can’t read.. or hold into basic information.

It’s not like it ….. they actually are incapable of listening, processing information or holding onto any facts. Coupled with spectacular entitlement. Sadly.

It's like that on here as well though.
OP: "AIBU to be worried about my 10 year old son's behaviour?"
Multiple posters: "How old is he, OP?"

🤦🏻‍♀️

Livelovebehappy · 29/11/2025 01:14

I see this all the time on face book ads. Someone will put an ad - corner sofa for sale, good condition, £100. Then you’ll get loads of people asking how much it is! I mean, it says it clearly on the ad. So your experience doesn’t surprise me at all…

InSpainTheRain · 29/11/2025 01:17

Stop sharing your whereabouts and when you are not in with randoms! Better still get off fbook marketplace, call up a charity or house clearers and get rid of stuff that way. There are way too many dodgy entitled changers on there.

MayaPinion · 29/11/2025 02:30

Don’t reply - it’ll be like a red rag to a bull, and she already sounds like a CF who would love a bit of a fight. Delete the listing and that should hopefully delete the comment, and then relist it tomorrow.

So many people really really CAN'T read and comprehend detail. It's almost like the advent of social media has fried their brains.

People these days read, write and text daily in soundbites,10 second scripts on various SM platforms. Brevity is key or they simply don't assimilate info.

So if their brains don't register the pertinent information within the first five seconds you may as well give up.

user1492757084 · 29/11/2025 03:18

I wouldn't post any conversation that states that your home is sitting there empty, Op.
You are reasonable.

You would be reasonable also if you were cven more presise.

I would choose a window of time on a Saturday and a Sunday.
Give them a choice of two time slots.
For example:
8 - 9 am Saturday or 2 - 3 pm Sunday.

Absolutely this. I teach secondary age and many really really struggle with basic comprehension questions from a standard, two pages of an textbook with questions in a box type task. Text is spread out, broken up with headings and pictures, bullet points, key terms in bold and they will still immediately and repeatedly want pointing to the exact line that contains the answer to Q3. They won't, unless forced, take two minutes to read the whole thing first, just want to zoom in on the answer and may well, having written it down, not be able to tell you the answer ten minutes later. It's truly depressing.

@Everythingsgrey I hear you. When I was clearing out my parents house, I put stuff on FB for free. I didn’t live there either so I’d post ‘sorry but no evenings or weekend collections’ rather than say the house was unoccupied. Dear god. The messages. The entitlement of people over stuff I was literally giving away 🤯. Obviously first question was nearly always ‘how much is it?’ When free was clearly stated. Or ‘what size it is?’ When the dimensions were in the description. Or my ad would say ‘this item cannot be dismantled so a large van is absolutely necessary for collection’ only for people to turn up in a Fiat 500 flummoxed as to how they might fit a 2m wide display cabinet in it. 😂 However, My absolute favourite had to be the chap who sent me a message saying ‘I was a very unfair person to be placing such unfair rules about the times the items could be collected’ I replied with ‘congratulations! You are now blocked and will be getting none of it’ I can imagine I was all over his local FB page 😂

I dont think being 20 mins early is an issue as they didnt want to be late and fine as long as theyre happy waiting. The last arriving so late is annoying. Most people dont read everything.

They arrived 40 minutes early not 20.

Why don’t most people read everything in a short message? Genuinely baffling as it must create so many problems… expect you’ve stopped reading by now so I’ll shut up.

Bjorkdidit · 29/11/2025 06:38

Agree, people are bizarre or just very stupid. A few years ago, I listed a knackered Mini that had failed it's MOT spectacularly. I was very clear in the advert that it had no MOT, was for spares or repair and would need to be collected on a trailer. The registration number was visible and I said that people should look at the long list of failures on the DVLA website.

I did the advert at about 9 pm and then for the next hour was inundated with dozens of enquiries from people who could see no more than 'Mini £300' and were demanding that they came that night to drive it away for £100 to £150 'had cash now'. I just went to bed and left them to argue with themselves about me complete unreasonableness to not give them my address.

I've long said that my million pound idea is a second hand selling site for nice intelligent decent people. No CFs.

All adverts will use correct SPaG as will all messaging about listed items. They will read the advert and not ask questions that can be answered by doing so. If people arrange to visit, they will turn at the agreed time. Sensible negotiation will be allowed but if requests for a lower price or delivery are rejected, this will be immediately accepted with good grace. No sob stories about why they should be allowed to buy the item for a knock down price or have collection only items delivered. No-one will offer to swap what you're selling for other random items, they will only offer money. There is probably not a person alive who wants to swap a £10k second hand car for a quad bike. Failure to comply with the rules will earn a lifetime ban from the site.

Hi Folks,
We had agreed to meet at 7pm, but [insert name] turned up at 6.10pm looking for me, I explained that I wasn't there and that we'd agreed 7pm. [Insert name] then asked me to deliver to her house, which wasn't possible, and unfortunately she wasn't happy with this. Hope that clarifies my perspective of what happened. Cheers [insert your name].

@Everythingsgrey FB is full of cheeky feckers, unfortunately.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 29/11/2025 06:42

How dare she embarrass you like that. Put the screenshots up of your conversation snd highlight the bit where you told her you’re not available. What a knob!

Redburnett · 29/11/2025 06:50

I live in a diverse area and it is very obvious that some respondents on FB Marketplace don't have English as a first language and so have difficulty communicating/understanding. I try to be helpful in such cases. I was once offered money to deliver a small item, the distance was only 2 miles so I did deliver (for nothing) but the chaos of the household visible from the doorway suggested this was a family barely coping. I found it quite sad that someone would even offer petrol money, such was their need for a £10 small item of furniture.

babyproblems · 29/11/2025 07:04

What a nutter. Post a screenshot of your agreement with her and say we agreed 7pm. I was not available at 6:10pm.

I would be careful making it obvious a property is empty on Facebook.. good luck hope everyone else turns up and is sane! Xx

SparklyGlitterballs · 29/11/2025 07:21

Just leave a response...

"For clarity, this person was 50mins before an agreed pick up time of 7pm and I was not there. She was not prepared to wait for me to arrive at the agreed time and left, asking me to deliver it to her for free instead, which I was unable to do. I was really happy [not] to have made a wasted journey. I will however work on my mind-reading skills so that next time I can anticipate someone turning up nearly an hour early."

Babyenroute · 29/11/2025 08:21

FB marketplace seems to attract cheeky people. I was giving stuff away for free and someone asked me to deliver on a specific day (for free)

Fiftyandme · 29/11/2025 08:22

They’re ignorant rude fuckers.
