Its absolutely scarey that this incompetent lot are running the country. Not as bad as Liz Truss but that's hardly a yardstick . Some old Labour. Squeeze the money out of the workers and give it away. They had a real chance to reform benefits they didn't. Now more handouts for folk with large families. While the rest of us pay.

lol removing the two child cap was deeply unpopular with everyone except labour backbenchers and people with a multitude of kids they can’t support

Did you support your own child, as a teenager?

You’re welcome, btw.

For you it’s not different because you’re arguing with me and trying to make it personal 😉. But for most other people it is different that’s why it was a two child cap and not a zero child cap. Also I got pregnant at 15 not the same as grown women who should know better getting pregnant multiple times while expecting everyone else to pay

Most 15 year olds don't get pregnant. They know better.

What I'm pointing out is your hypocrisy. Unsurprisingly, you can't see it. I won't comment on your very evident lack of understanding of why the two-child cap was introduced in the first place (hint: it wasn't because of what "most people" thought).

I am in full support of it. I am not a politician, and my two children are adults now. I am also genuinely in the "squeezed middle" as in I earn £30,000 p/a, not £100k.

I won't benefit at all from this budget; I'll pay slightly more tax, but I am not in the slightest bit upset by it. It is doing what taxes should do and taking more from those who can afford to pay more while supporting those who need it most.

Its a benefit people have paid into with contributions.

Erm not quite true

I could have claimed carers allowance for caring for mum ( I do care for her as I did her husband till he died ) and whilst claiming it, Id have had my pension payments also paid for by the tax payer

I actually only paid my missing years ( the years where I was unwell or caring for parents so not working - or claiming ) recently and still have to work another 5 years and I only managed to pay those years and ill health made me claim my Private pension so I had a small lump sum

I know plenty of people on the road to full pension who have claimed benefits all their working lives

Genuine question;

If high(er) taxes mean the rich will leave in droves (which is highly disputed, btw), then why do the Scandinavian countries still have wealthy people living there?

They pay far more tax than we do, and have a much higher standard of living to show for it.

Because their country is beautiful and functional not a bin fire like the UK. If I had money I’d hotfoot it out of here so fast you wouldn’t see my arse on the way out.

No but I didn’t have any more children until I was older and in a better place financially. It was a two child cap not a zero child cap I support

"lol removing the two child cap was deeply unpopular...you forgot to say "among everyone I know, and I make sure only to socialise with people who think exactly like me". Maybe you should get out more.

It's a practical measure that will have an immediate positive effect and has a lot of support. I'm not particularly interested in what single mothers who lived on benefits for years think about it.

Hypocrisy how? When I’m arguing in favour of a two child cap not a zero child cap. Yeah I had one child when I was super young but then I didn’t have any more until I was in a better place financially. It was brought in because some people took the piss having ten kids and expecting everyone else to pay

Doggielovecharlotte · 26/11/2025 21:15

I cannot believe that people on here are moaning how squeezed they are on £140k bringing up one child yet think someone getting £25k a year with masses of children is rolling in money and having the life of Riley

it doesn’t make logical sense

surely they have 5-6 times that amount so must be living a life of luxury according to their own logic

So why do you think higher earners are happy to stay blinking in the darkness of Scandinavian countries whilst paying higher taxes? My partner is working in one right now and the photos he is sending back are stunning. Beautiful clean streets. Amazing scenery. I’d move there in a heartbeat. If you can’t recognise just how dilapidated this country has become you really need to get out more. Nothing works. Literally nothing works.

Why is it any of our business the life choices of the person you just described? It would have been a choice to have masses of children. Contraception is still free in England I believe.

60% of all Britons approved of the cap only 28% wanted it removed the rest “didnt know”. It doesn’t have a lot of support at all maybe you should get out more if you seriously think that

But surely a big part of that is that they are willing to pay for the better services they have? We seem to want it all: better public services but lower ( or no) taxes.

Make it make sense.

I'll try and make it simple, although it's already evident, so...

If you're in favour of cutting a social security benefit or denying it on undetailed cost grounds, then you're a hypocrite if you don't accept the cut/denial applies to everyone in a category (in this case, people with children). There is no difference between taking support if you have one child, or taking support if you have 3 children.

From your position on the scale, you argue that you "only" had one child you expected taxpayers to support, so that's okay. But from my position (no kids, worked so far for 36 years) you used my taxes to support a child you chose to have, exactly the same as someone who may have 3 or 4 kids. In the language some people like to use, you were quick enough with your hand out for a handout when you needed it. But you want to remove that tight from other people. Hence - hypocrite.

Btw - there are around 24,000 families with six or more children, and "a handful" with more than 10. So stop with the tabloid headline nonsense. Unless, of course, you really want people to think you're stupid enough to believe it.

Make consecutive government policies make sense. They all hate this country. They make policies that ruin it continuously. When you can’t make it make sense you give up on it and most people have given up.

I said I’m in favour of the two child cap not completely cutting social security for all families with children. Yes shit happens but after the third time you should have learnt your lesson. Nothing hypocritical here at all. I had one child I couldn’t financially support at the time so what I was only 16 completely different from these grown adults repeatedly having kids they can’t afford on benefits.
Removing the cap is set to cost 3 billion a year, you realise people with kids have to pay the taxes that fund that which could push them to financial breaking point?

Billions and billions btw are going into an unproven green engery carbon capture scheme.

New technologies are always unproven. We’d still be in horse and cart if we didn’t invest in anything new. That’s how R&D works.
