Its absolutely scarey that this incompetent lot are running the country. Not as bad as Liz Truss but that's hardly a yardstick . Some old Labour. Squeeze the money out of the workers and give it away. They had a real chance to reform benefits they didn't. Now more handouts for folk with large families. While the rest of us pay.

Then they left a note saying there was no money left 🤦‍♀️

Gosh. 15 years on, and some people still haven't cottoned on that the "no money left" note was a standard Chancellor joke, on the occasion of a different party coming into power.

Those same people, ime, tend to have very little to say about the Tory govt from 2010 almost immediately causing a recession after coming into office, or doubling national debt or losing the country's AAA+ credit rating...

Scraping the two child limit must be a joke? I’m not perfect got pregnant at 15 fave birth at 16 but 4+ kids by 4 different dads and expecting other peoples taxes to pay is surely taking the piss?
I mean seriously? Raising taxes for THIS?? I doubt many people will vote labour again

So, in short; you expected hardworking taxpayers to pay for your sprog, and no doubt took every benefit going - but everyone who's not you can go whistle.

SuffolkSun · 26/11/2025 20:18

888casino · 26/11/2025 15:37

Yeah because it’s a good point and a lot of people are thinking it

No, it's not a good point.

Tells us quite a lot about you though.

What is the relevance of who the dads are???

Interest is higher because this government is borrowing more because people paying tax are leaving the country.

Interest is higher because previous Tory governments lost the UK's AAA credit rating through their woefully inept policies, most noteably Brexit.

yeah I was young and only had one kid and waited years until I was financially better off before having my younger two. Bit different from having multiple children while on benefits expecting tax payers to fund them especially when grown women do this and they should know better.
not sure what your point is someone agrees with a two child cap doesn’t mean they want a zero child cap?

Strumpetpumpet · 26/11/2025 20:29

Blimey this thread is depressing. I’m not exactly enamoured with everything the current government are doing but FFS some people either have short memories or are being wilfully manipulated. Liz Truss? Boris Johnson? Brexit? Austerity? 🤦‍♀️

How can they PR £30bn more taxes? After lying

They're doing pretty well to get so many on here saying it’s great.

It would be good to know more about the initiatives they are putting in place.

SeaAndStars · 26/11/2025 20:33

Thechaseison71 · 26/11/2025 20:10

Where are you getting that? Nearly £300 a month per child

If you read the thread you will see this point was covered ages ago.

Yes!

too true

UninitendedShark · 26/11/2025 20:36

Anybody who voted for Brexit needs to stop moaning about the budget. You’re getting the financial landscape you voted for.

I didn't have any children and never minded paying tax for other people's kids.
I would rather that then have children raised in poverty for whatever reason.

Biskieboo · 26/11/2025 20:40

I think Rachel Reeves made a pretty good fist of a virtually impossible job, and quite a lot of the stuff being posted here is hyperbolic drivel.

State pension is classed as a benefit by the government. However, you only get tbe full benefit if you've paid enough into the system or have credits for being a carer etc. Ive just paid the government about £5k to increase my and hubby's benefits ... though we have paid taxes for 50 years abd never claimed benefits.

You say you worked for fifty years so... you're now a pensioner and claiming the state pension.

Everyone is (or should be) aware that you can't retrospectively "pay' to increase the state pension or other benefits. You can pay (before claiming the pension) to make up gaps in your NI record so you get the full amount. But if there were gaps in your NI record, you didn't work anywhere close to 50 years.

I suggest you think of a story that sounds halfway believable.

dollyblue01 · 26/11/2025 20:42

If you want more kids you should be able to pay for them yourself, why should I go to work to support your choices ? Utter madness , might have a few myself and stop working 🙄 not.

bittertwisted · 26/11/2025 20:45

LaurieFairyCake · 26/11/2025 17:23

Great budget, very pleased the 2 child benefit cap removed - a horrible attack on families by the Tories gone forever

Not at all
pay for your own family, that is what should be encouraged

EveningSpread · 26/11/2025 20:46

You do realise that we’ve got an ageing population and need people to have kids so there are enough working people to pay for future pensions?

You do realise the vast majority of benefit claimants are in work? And that it’s false economy to have children in poverty?

I see the tired old vitriol for benefit scroungers is overriding any sense of reason or logic. The question “Why should I pay for others” totally misses the point. We all benefit. Next you’ll be wanting your taxes for the NHS back because Maggie next door, has been to the GP 4 times this year and you’ve only been once. After all, why should you pay for other people who are so careless as to get sick?

EveningSpread · 26/11/2025 20:48

It’s a solid, sensible budget and frankly I’m surprised and pleased.

The fact that some people are foaming at the mouth even though they’ll continue to be comfortable just boggles the mind.

Do it. If you genuinely believe you will be financially better off being unemployed and having lots of children, then do it.

I suspect you won't because you know full well you are far better off working, short-term and especially in the long-term.

For the taxpayer - me - it's no different at all. You chose to have a child without being able to support it and expected taxpayers to do that for you.

For you it’s not different because you’re arguing with me and trying to make it personal 😉. But for most other people it is different that’s why it was a two child cap and not a zero child cap. Also I got pregnant at 15 not the same as grown women who should know better getting pregnant multiple times while expecting everyone else to pay

As well as impact on mental health

people who think people have babies to get off work are deluded

the same people say “I love work, it’s easier than being at home raising kids” and moan about the strain their partners don’t do childcare and what an easy life they subsequently have while they are left holding the baby

Wow, it "got a lot of likes" did it. On a social media platform. Gosh, you must be "right" then, if your post "got a lot of likes".

How many "likes" is "a lot"? 3? 5? 15? Do tell.

lol removing the two child cap was deeply unpopular with everyone except labour backbenchers and people with a multitude of kids they can’t support
