Middle earners punished

1000 replies

Eucalyptus321 · 25/11/2025 21:18

I am feeling so disheartened and frustrated by how middle earners are constantly suffering at the hands of ridiculous government priorities. My husband and I have a greater household income than other families we know but have less cash in hand due to increased taxes coupled with the fact we receive zero benefits like child benefit or tax free childcare etc. ZERO. If they want middle earners to fund the country thought tax then at least support us with childcare costs. It’s a joke that two parents earning £99k each get childcare funding but parents with one £101k salary and one £25k salary receive nothing. I just need to speak to people who understand the burden of raising a family amidst the current financial climate and then the potential of further tax rises!

I have a disabled child and don’t claim. Why would I? It’s called social responsibility. My child, my costs. If I was unable to work through illness I would receive a 75% of my current salary indexed each year until I reach retirement age. I’m insured. It’s called social responsibility. There is no need whatsoever to be reliant on the taxpayer.

Wait. Really? Aren't the extra costs for a disabled child a lot?

£2k a month private school. I can afford it. I REALLY loath the ‘my kid is disabled, what can this get me in benefits’ attitude so many people have in this country. Seeing their disabled child like some sort of cash cow.

Oh and private occupational therapy and counselling.

Just because there are poorer people out there compared to the OP, doesn’t mean that the OP’s difficulties aren’t valid… Evetyone is struggling in this economy except the ultra rich and large corporations.

The OP earns way more than most people. I suspect she’s far from struggling, just wants to keep more of her money for herself. Sadly for her we have a labour govt and she will have to wait for one that’s more sympathetic to high earners. To that end suggest she votes conservative not reform.

But I read on here that sometimes they need the extra money to meet the costs and/or having to take time off work to care for the child?

Yes.

Unsurprisingly, not everyone can afford to care for a disabled child without any help.

I think this assumption that high earners aren’t struggling is a very silly assumption indeed. You do not know what people’s circumstances are. My DH and I are both home owners but we are struggling under the costs of everything. We get no hand outs. That doesn’t mean we are not deserving of sympathy. We work for everything we get. Hate this attitude that because you’re not on the breadline, it means you aren’t deserving of support.

I think basically unless you’re just existing, no one likes it!

Yep. EXACTLY

PeonyPatch · 26/11/2025 14:14

Kemi has called Labour the Welfare Party. That’s exactly what they are. They should be called Welfare not Labour

If your child is over 3, you are expected to work full time on UC.

That does not happen

unless you have disabilities, disabled children, mental health or multiple children… anyone outside of this… nothing

Edited

Watch the benefit scroungers pop out even more children now to get even more free money paid for by hard working tax payers who can only afford one or if they are lucky two children. It is sickening.

It does in my experience.

There’s an overall cap on benefits.

And why shouldn’t she want that? I’m damn sure you would want the same if the roles were reversed

Deserving of support? If you mean “yes it’s hard for lots of people just now” then absolutely I can provide moral support. If you mean “I’m bringing in £6k a month and it’s not enough - please give me more money” then no.

I haven't heard if they are removing it. Did they mention it? Otherwise the only ones who will benefit are the working people on UC.

I think what she meant was her and her partner shouldn’t be taxed stupid amounts to support others!
