To wonder what’s going on with Stacey Solomon

I like her (as much as you can like someone you don’t really know) although I’m less keen on how much she exposes her kids to the public eye. But that aside I enjoy her shows - both SYLO and the documentary.

But there seems to be a bit of a backlash lately - the Mail has a story (behind their paid for bit) about how she and Joe aren’t all they seem (surely not!) and I’ve read a few things about her fallout with Mrs Hinch and her Amazon affiliate programme.

Why is everyone suddenly turning against her? Is it just that we don’t generally like seeing people do well or is there more to it? I think there are worse people to dislike.

You are the one who replied to my post saying she’s conning people. I was wondering if you can back this accusation up with actual examples.

She's promoting a highly edited version of her life, in order to sell products. Her whole IG is the example.

Edited version of her life? Which bit - the duck poo on the sofa or having to empty the dog’s bladder? Did you expect her to broadcast 24/7 rather than picking a moment here and there?

Her sister has done massively well out of the connection, she comes across as pleasant but im not sure what her talent is - although that doesn’t seem to be important any more.

Her sister bugs me - nice enough in the background but really puts me off SS when I see her sister being pushed forward as much as she is.

I think the PP was definitely talking about Dooley but I've seen Stacey Solomon on things like Would I Lie To You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks before.

You definitely exaggerated by saying she’s conning people. Honestly, hatred built on exaggeration is just gossip. I just try to be a bit more objective and less judgy.

I've explained why all selling 'influencers' con people. You don't have to agree, because we live in a democracy.

I don’t think the media like or dislike any of them. I think it’s just about money and clicks and getting people reading their articles. I think they do indeed build people up to tear them down but in a much more cold, logical way; not because they take a particular dislike to someone.

Influencers are a particularly effective target because they give off the “we are just like you” vibe but they’re also rich and successful. People are a bit jealous so get a bit gleeful when seeing something that brings them down a peg or two.

Celebrity gossip isn’t anything new. Remember when hello and ok magazines were massive? Influencers and the parasocial relationship they create adds a whole new level to this.

Look at this thread for example. We are all talking about it. I wonder how many hits it’s got on the articles being spoken about.

Seeing bits of things with her made me think she was annoying then I watched SYLO and thought she was wonderful which might be because I'm married to a boarder and would love her to SMLO. I wouldn't inflict him on her because I think hoarders have to want to sort themselves out and he doesn't. I fight a constant battle.

Yes I remember that repulsive racist thing. She got what she deserved - no, not the whitewash and placement on Britain's Got Talent as a presenter and a phony marriage to make her look better in the eyes of the public. Glad she's gone.

Her tattle thread is eye opening. I don't post on it, but the clear manipulation is shocking. Hiding AdS in posts, links to things that she gains from, the different treatment jn her children and they always look really unkempt. (Nails particularly)

I thought I’d started a thread on this this morning after wondering why the DM have got it in for her then she did stories on it yesterday.

Personally I think she’s a worked hard for what she’s got.

it’s been a while since their wedding but the fact the ‘not legally married’ element wasn’t widely known til now makes me think they’ve changed their management/agent, to one that isn’t as good at schmoozing the daily mail.

that aside, realising a wedding was essentially an extended sales pitch isn’t going to make people happy. Especially following the pre-Xmas period where the number of Amazon adverts she punted out was ridiculous.

I mean, relatively speaking she hasn’t worked hard. She went on a talent show, they liked her singing voice but her personality more because she was common and a bit dim and they were shocked she could sing- kind of like Susan Boyle. She didn’t make it as a singer in the slightest (did she even release one record?!). Instead she’s made it as a TV personality because she’s dim and somehow that makes her likeable. She makes money from Instagram posts about her crisp cupboard and her marriage to a former eastenders ‘actor’.
