To say that women look bloody weird ….

.. when the only part of their face that moves is their mouth and eyes.

And don’t get me started on the massive fish lips.

Never see any naturally beautiful young women on TV these days. Such a shame

I'm working on the basis that OP is a man, and so are several people on this thread. Which in itself is fine and normal, obviously, but there have been a few of these particular type of threads in recent weeks.

They're not exactly hard to spot.

My H always says many look like they are auditioning for pantomime - ge thinks it’s hideous - maybe younger guys go for it though-so those of us a bit older don’t get the pressure many young women feel to confirm to a modern version of beauty

Regarding the comment "maybe younger guys go for it though," is this implying that young women choose this appearance to meet young men's preferences?

From what I have seen and heard, men's desires and expectations have absolutely no influence on women's choices regarding their appearance.

NickyWiresSunnies · 21/11/2025 00:00

This isn't putting women down; its observing a modern behaviour that's detrimental to womens health. Three of my near neighbours started in their early 20s, now their lips are lumpy, their skin is dried by tanning beds, their botox is ever-increasing & they inject themselves after repeated bizarre botch jobs at salons.
What the actor/influencer class do to themselves & parade across various media, creates an insidious 'beauty' norm that's taken up by young women & all the virtue signalling in the world doesn't change the fact they look like a clone army of pornbots. Big lips that don't close, clown length lashes & permatanned, waxy faces. It's body dysmorphia creating addiction to surgical/chemical fixing, way beyond old school caked make up addiction.
This concern is pro-women. I get on well with my neighbours, and their constant nip/tuck/jab comes from anxiety about conforming & leads to chronic low level pain.
Social media, filters, showbiz...a strange brew. Yes, many of us don't succumb but commenting doesn't mean we feel superior. It's worrying.

No, I’m actually a woman in my fifties and 78% of votes on this thread agree with me.

Ok what is one positive thing about faking yourself to look good? is the end result ever achieved where someone genuinely looks better than being natural, and I am not speaking of corrections due to medical conditions or surgery but having a ''standard'' body before and then faking it?

I’m 31, and have recently noticed my under eyes becoming a bit more “tired looking”, makeup doesn’t sit as nicely and looks a bit cakey as powder/concealer sits in my fine lines. I get under eye skin boosters to help with that, thus giving me plumper and more hydrated under eyes so my makeup now looks a dream.

I also get masseter Botox (to help with my bruxism/jaw grinding at night) it also slims down my face, which is amazing because I struggle with my weight fluctuating due to PCOS. Having a slimmer face makes me feel better about myself.

I’ve had dermal fillers in my jaw and chin, as I have an overbite which gives me a receding jawline. With the filler, it’s added some definition and given a nice shape to my face. I feel like I’m the best I’ve ever looked.

I also get my nails done, eyebrows tinted and waxed, wear lash extensions from time to time, wear fake tan (because I’m so pale people ask me if I’m ill or iron deficient when I’m not wearing it). Why? Because I want to. Because it’s no one else’s business what I do with my appearance. I have lots of friends, a large family and partner who love me. None of the people in my life would refer to me as “fake”.

Lovelyview · 21/11/2025 00:01

It's telling that despite people telling the op that she doesn't have a right to criticise other women's appearances, not one person has said 'yes, women with fillers look great.' because we all know they don't. Men also look deeply odd and uncanny. So the question is why are some women spending a lot of money during a cost of living crisis on making themselves look like sex dolls? I don't think the answer is that they are empowered independent women. I think the answer is that they believe they are not enough as they are and they have to 'fix' themselves in frankly bizarre, cartoonish ways to fit in with deeply misogynistic ideas about what women should look like.

bottledboot · 21/11/2025 00:01

CherrieTomaties · 20/11/2025 23:46

I don’t bash other people for their appearances.

No you just bash their personalities & mental health instead or at least what you perceive them to be. I’m not sure why you think that gives you a moral high ground!

Oooobigstretch · 21/11/2025 00:01

The vitriol on this thread is pretty sad. Would everybody be this nasty if you were discussing it at the pub?

FWIW -

If one person is saying “I think it’s sad that women inject so much into their face” - essentially to adhere to societal dictates requiring women to conform to perceived beauty ideals

And the other person is saying “we shouldn’t be judging women on their appearance so much”

Aren’t they both generally the same gist?

(Even if the first person’s side note is they think it actually looks worse…)

I read about Emma Stone having some 'tweakments' then I went to my Pilates group and we had a coffee and chat afterwards. All the women are aged 60+, none of them have had any botox or anything and I just thought they are lovely just the way they are because every single face was full of character and life and humour. It's terribly sad to see women plumped full of fillers with all the distinctiveness drained from their faces. If you're doing this to your face, stop it. It looks terrible.

I agree - too many famous people are starting to look the same as each other too - same surgeon?
How will those who have these treatments feel about their looks in their 60’s/70’s and beyond? Will they feel that they have to lock themselves away because they’re ’unacceptable’?
These treatments take a lot of money and maintenance- will they always be trying to catch up - when will it stop?
What example are they teaching their daughters (and sons) about getting older, individuality, self acceptance etc.
There is a beauty in ageing - I’ve seen it in older relatives. It would be nice to see more of this in the media.

I've never really cared much about the natural vs artificial beauty quarrels.

There have been so many questionable "beauty" trends thoughout history: Using lead or arsenic to whiten complextion, binding feet, mercury for blusher, tight-lacing corsets, radium cosmetics, nightshade in the eyes, etc etc etc.

"Beauty" is clearly something people are prepared to do anything for. I just hope the methods for achieving the desired look continue to become safer.

Bashed their “mental health”. Deary me 😂

I’ll happily bash anyone who refers to other women as “bloody weird” looking and calling them “fish lips” it’s derogatory and completely shows what kind of horrible person they are.

It’s not hit a nerve at all, I’m just baffled as to what made you come online tonight and start a thread by immediately referring to women as “bloody weird looking” with “fish lips”. It’s completely bizzare.

YANBU

But some men are catching up.

If you've ever watched Graham Norton or Johnathan Ross lately, some of the male actors are positively dribbling with facial paralysis.

Yes, and Omid Scobie.

It will impact them though- down the line.

Just seen Vogue Williams on IACGMOOH but seems to be a common thing with celebrities. It’s a shame they don’t realise they are more beautiful in their natural state.

I don't think women are more beautiful in their nature state, unless they get botched then yes. Women in their 20s can look a bit strange with tweaks(again, their choice though) but older women definitely look better when they have work done - mainly forehead botox, chemical peels and eyelids. Women without work done can still be attractive but women with work done well just look better.

Jewel52 · 21/11/2025 00:09

5128gap · 20/11/2025 23:31

You think its a shame when a woman doesn't look as beautiful as she could?
Interesting. Because that's exactly the thinking that drives the cosmetic industry.
You're part of the problem.

Thank you, my thoughts exactly.

Just stop finding ways to go after other women and focus on actual stuff that’s detrimental to all our lives.

Don’t you think that women whose faces are so frozen that they can only move their eyes and their mouths do look bloody weird then?
