To think if you are an adult with a huge head

Don’t book front row seats in the theatre.

Large man sitting on the front row of the stalls with 3 other large adults next to him managed to block the view of an entire group of children sitting in the seats behind them.

It was a children’s show in the West End but they didn’t appear to be accompanying any children.

YABU - big adults deserve front row seats

YANBU - adults to the back so everyone gets a good view

🤣🤣🤣

First post nails it.

rosierosierosie · 20/11/2025 11:40

It’s annoying but it’s not their fault 😆 Most theatres have booster seats for this reason?

Might have been the only seats available too.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 20/11/2025 11:44

Big heads are fine. It's the buggers who hold up phones/ipads who need to be sent to the back.

TheRozzers · 20/11/2025 11:56

Ok maybe in come cases it can’t be helped but in this case it was a matinee, the audience was mainly primary school children and there were definitely other seats available.

How were the adults supposed to know, when they booked their seats, that a) the theatre would be full of primary school children and b) where the children would be sitting?

Every adult cannot be expected to sit in the back row of a theatre on the off-chance that there might be a child occupying another seat. People are perfectly entitled to book the best seats they can afford.

It's not like they walked into the theatre, looked at the crowd and thought 'I know, I'll go and sit in those seats in front of those kids'. They booked their seats like anyone else without knowing who would be near them, and then sat in them. Because that's how theatres work.

PearlRiver · 20/11/2025 12:05

YANBU - Big Heads should be banned from all live shows.

butterycroissants · 20/11/2025 12:06

Maybe the people with children should be more organised book the front row seats if that’s what they want?

BauhausOfEliott · 20/11/2025 12:07

adults to the back so everyone gets a good view

Being an adult doesn't mean you've got good eyesight or hearing. Not everyone gets 'a good view' if they're a long way from the stage and might not want to be seeing the actors' faces as indistinct blobs.

PodMom · 20/11/2025 12:08

I’m 5ft. I think anyone over 5ft should be banned from the theatre 🤣

GoldMerchant · 20/11/2025 12:08

Is there a device I can use to check whether my larger than average head meets the criteria for "huge head"? Wouldn't want to book the wrong seats in future.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 20/11/2025 12:11

Maybe this should also be extended to people over 5’6”, or people who have wider shoulders than the average ?

bilbodog · 20/11/2025 12:12

I sympathise OP as im short and often find i cant see and now dont go to the cinema or theatre as much as i used to. Our local cinema has seats at the back which are higher up than the rest so i always book those and sit looking down the centre isle so nobody can sit in front of me.

taller people dont get it!

EmShire · 20/11/2025 12:16

Not sure about this but I think tall people should think twice about sitting at the front. Also big hats aren't great for the people directly behind.

brunettemic · 20/11/2025 12:16

Im guessing you want the website to be given access to their camera so it can measure their head and seat them accordingly?

InterestedDad37 · 20/11/2025 12:18

Big heads and tall people should be forced to go to the back! Should be the law! 😀

We also can’t do anything about it!

I can’t shrink myself from 5’ 10” every time I walk into a theatre.

I am conscious of it. I do book the back row of the cinema. I always try and book an aisle seat in the theatre so that my legs aren’t annoying anyone.

But I will sit close to the front in the theatre (ideally on the first balcony up) and if someone short has the seat behind me, they can get a booster seat from an usher.

Importantly I sit still - I know how annoying someone fidgeting around in front can be just when you’ve sorted the best angle to watch the stage around them.

When I’m at a live gig I stand at the side, not in the front or in the middle of the crowd.

Beyond that (which is plenty) there’s not much I can do.

Somnambule · 20/11/2025 12:21

What about people with big hairdos? Don't be daft.

MoonBugs · 20/11/2025 12:21

My dh has a big head, broad shoulders and is 6’6 with long legs. I’m 5’3. Where do you propose we sit if we go to the theatre together?

he slouches down as much as he can- but his long legs make this very painful and difficult for him. He also (unless impossible to do so) always sits in an aisle seat and leans his head/legs out towards the aisle as much as he can to not block people’s view.

My perspective is he’s paying for a ticket as much as anyone else, why should he sit miles away in the cheap seats where he can’t see as well just because he’s tall?
I’ve been sat behind very tall people, as long as they’re not being deliberately obnoxious and they keep their head still (so I can look around them) then It’s not a them problem; it’s a me problem.

people are so entitled sometimes

Justploddingonandon · 20/11/2025 12:21

Which theatre was this? I'm guessing they must have had an unusually low stage as generally the stage is so high (so people further back can see) that the first few rows have to look up, and are therefore looking over the heads of anyone in front of them. This also tends to make the front row cheaper as you can't see stuff happening lower down/at the back of the stage.
I'm an average sized woman, and yes it's annoying when I get someone tall in front of me, but I wouldn't want to sit at the back as that's often also restricted. I find the dress circle best for children as the rake is generally better. Also this is why they have booster seats.

60watt · 20/11/2025 12:21

I’ve got a huge head and was hoping that this would be a thread about where to get hats because none of them fit me.

Funnily enough you can’t tell by looking at me so I don’t think I will cause offence by sitting in a seat in the theatre.

Surely it’s tall and/or wide people that are the problem unless these same people also have extravagant hairdos?

Anyway OP you’re being a real silly billy.

TeenLifeMum · 20/11/2025 12:22

Do you want a Ryan air bag checker style head size checker?

It’s another ‘To think…’ post - where do you get all these ideas from OP?

Jigglyhuffpuff · 20/11/2025 12:23

I have a huge head but am short. Where do I sit?
