My 18 month old just licked one of his big sisters Crayola silly scents felt tip in blue.. now his tounge is blue.

we’ve scrubbed his tounge with his tooth brush and he’s drunk a big bottle of milk..

i want to call toxicity help like but my husband says I’m being unreasonable because ChatGPT and the Crayola website say they’re non-toxic and I’m wasting peoples time when the information is online.

am I being over dramatic haha

Clearly you’ve never worked with kids before, once you’ve seen some of them pop poop into their mouths like sweets then you learn to chill out.

He'll be perfectly fine, so calm down.

Hilarious 🙄

Non-toxic: All Crayola markers are certified non-toxic and are safe for children - from the Crayola website

Perplexin · 19/11/2025 20:09

My daughter ate a red crayola crayon - the joys of PICA. I waited days to see if she had red waxy poop 😅

Crayola fortunately make their products non toxic so nothing to worry about.

User564523412 · 19/11/2025 20:09

Yes A&E immediately! Scented crayon ink could lead to bowel movements permanently smelling like blueberries.

Gossyboo · 19/11/2025 20:09

Your baby will be absolutely fine OP, don't mind the snotty comments x

onho · 19/11/2025 20:11

I'm hoping they are the genuine brand; in that case, I wouldn’t worry because they are non-toxic.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 19/11/2025 20:12

Natural to stress and worry. My DS has done it too. He was fine! Blue tongue was gone by the following afternoon.

Simplelifeneeded · 19/11/2025 20:16

Dc will be fine Crayola make non toxic products for kids.

nocoolnamesleft · 19/11/2025 20:25

Kids are eating crayola products all the time. We'd have found out years ago if they were in any way toxic.

Milosc · 19/11/2025 20:28

From the Crayola website:

Are Crayola and Silly Putty products nontoxic even if ingested or inhaled?

  • Yes, all Crayola® and Silly Putty® products are non-toxic and safe to use. Crayola has been a trusted brand in homes and schools for over 100 years, prioritizing safety since 1903.
  • Independent toxicologists consistently evaluate our products, confirming they contain no known toxic substances in quantities sufficient to harm the human body, even if ingested or inhaled. Both Crayola and Silly Putty art materials carry the Art and Creative Materials Institute's (ACMI) APPROVED PRODUCT (AP) seal, indicating they meet or exceed specific quality standards.

They are fine. Your child could have ate the entire marker and been fine.

Newsenmum · 19/11/2025 20:37

Oh goodness if this is serious then you really do need to calm down. Maybe if he ate the entire pen. 🤣 Tbh even that would be fine. It’s a kids pen!

My son did the same. I think he was 2.5yrs. His whole mouth was covered in red wax. We rinsed his mouth and brushed his teeth (mostly to get rid of the colour 😆) and he was fine. A good chunk of it must have been digested though!!!

Not dc but the dog ate a whole box of them and had rainbow poo for days.

LOL your post is hilarious.

My 18 month old bites the whole nibs off her crayola chunky felt tips. The whole nib clean off. She lives to tell the tale and continually ask to "dwaaar" and bite off more nibs as she goes.

mazedasamarchhare · 19/11/2025 19:29

I’m old so when I was at school it was cartridge/ fountain pens all the way….the amount of times we’d chew the cartridges and end up with blue/ black mouths…I mean it tasted disgusting, but was quite a regular occurrence, we’re all still bimberling along in our 50s.
Your little one will be fine, honestly OP, try not to worry.

That brings back memories 🤣 Chewing the cartridges to collect the tiny balls from inside!

OP crayons pens are literally non-toxic.

ohyesido · 19/11/2025 21:48

Call them if it will put your mind at rest I can’t imagine there’s a queue. The operator might be pleased to get a call

😂 My little brother used to do this when we were kids, was very frustrating trying to colour when half my pens were reduced to stubs 😅

PurpleAxe · 19/11/2025 21:56

He will be fine, and will probably eat much worse things going forward.

Chill.

itbemay1 · 19/11/2025 21:59

Yes you are

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 19/11/2025 22:09

I'm in my sixties. I can remember my mum having to explain to me the difference between non-toxic and edible!

With the benefit of hindsight I realise my mum had an eating disorder and as a consequence i was underfed and hungry most of my childhood, hence my need to fill up on crayons ( and chalks, tissues, loo roll, book margins, cardboard, pickle juice, raw oats and vinegar). Basically anything we had around she didn't monitor.

I' m not trying to say my mum's attitude to food was good, but the weird things I filled myself up with when I was young didn't hurt me. I'm probably shorter than I would have been with a better diet but I'm fit, active, have a healthy BMI, good BP and am generally in excellent health.

I am sure a few Crayola points will do nothing worse for your DD than give her some colourful poos.

Flippineck67 · 19/11/2025 22:13

I used to work for Early Learning Centre and we were taught all about safety standards for kids.

By law, anything being sold in the UK that's designed for kids has to be safe. Therefore, all pens, crayons etc sold for kids in the UK will be non toxic.

My baby ate Sudocrem once. Even then, the helpline wasn't too bothered. Said he should be fine...and he was!

You've scrubbed an 18 months child's tongue with a toothbrush? It's like a workhouse in Dickens. Was Mr Bumble there?
