My 18 month old just licked one of his big sisters Crayola silly scents felt tip in blue.. now his tounge is blue.

we’ve scrubbed his tounge with his tooth brush and he’s drunk a big bottle of milk..

i want to call toxicity help like but my husband says I’m being unreasonable because ChatGPT and the Crayola website say they’re non-toxic and I’m wasting peoples time when the information is online.

am I being over dramatic haha

Kindly, yes you are. They're non-toxic, if the website says its fine, it's fine. Please stop worrying.

You do not need to phone the helpline.

Portlypig · 19/11/2025 19:35

You don’t need to call anyone. I would only worry if (eg) bleach, strong cleaners, alcohol, garden sprays, that kind of thing. I caught DS (2) sucking the end of a felt tip pen the other day, I took it off him obviously but it didn’t occur to me it would make him ill.

Your child will be fine. You may have some interesting nappies. My DD1 once ate a large handful of glitter glue. Fabulous poos for days. She's 24 now and none the worse.

Deep breath, cuppa, relax. Being a first time parent is hard.

Ooh how festive - tempted to start a AIBU to want to eat a handful of glitter glue so that I can have Christmas poos.... of course the answer would be YABU because edible glitter now exists...

I’m old so when I was at school it was cartridge/ fountain pens all the way….the amount of times we’d chew the cartridges and end up with blue/ black mouths…I mean it tasted disgusting, but was quite a regular occurrence, we’re all still bimberling along in our 50s.
Your little one will be fine, honestly OP, try not to worry.

OMG you just made me remember that this happened to me! I chewed on one in school without thinking and suddenly my mouth was full of ink.,,it was beyond embarrassing 😳

ScaryM0nster · 19/11/2025 19:36

This is why you buy crayola and not unknown imported from Amazon or shein

He’ll be fine. Take lots of pictures of his blue tongue to tell the story to his girlfriend one day.

Do you seriously think they would make toxic children's crayons?????

They do in some countries. They used to be made with lead once upon a time.

Ah. So that explains the bimberling I see around me...
I was far too cautious or fussy to have done that so didn't realise the cause and effect.
When I was young cartridges were the new technology...

BettysRoasties · 19/11/2025 19:40

It will be fine. Unless you’re buying imported knock offs.

Most children’s things are so far under the level incase accidents happen.

Hi Op

i just want to say that I had many moments just like this, including my one year old licking her crayola markers, that made me wonder the same thing. I had the advantage that my brother works in pediatrics so he was constantly getting calls from me when I had these moments. Some people are being quite harsh in their comments I feel.

The crayola products are harmless and non toxic, your little one will be fine 😊

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/11/2025 19:48

Don't waste their time.

All Crayola and Silly Putty products have been evaluated by an independent toxicologist and found to contain no known toxic substances in sufficient quantities to be harmful to the human body, even if ingested or inhaled.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 19/11/2025 19:49

I reckon thousands of young children up and down the country stick Crayola pens and crayons in their mouths on a daily basis. If it were a problem, there would be A and E departments full of them. And there aren't.

These are children’s pens. They’re non toxic. Kindly, you’re over reacting.

MummaHud · 19/11/2025 18:58

dunno, don’t have the packaging anymore

Yea but you said you looked on the crayola website and say that it said non toxic.

LingeringDogFart · 19/11/2025 19:39

Frankly though, even if it was made with lead it still wouldn't be an emergency.

Wingingit73 · 19/11/2025 20:01

Dont worry. X

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/11/2025 20:02

At about the same age my son ate half a tub of glittery Play-Do that I didnt even know was in the house! Blue glittery poo for days, made nappy changes more fun!

He survived, he is now 35!

Kids eat weird shit, its what they do. Be grateful it was only a crayola, the same son found a tub of sudocrem that I kept in the changing bag and went to town with it, he was waterproof for weeks and the carpet was ruined!

PInkyStarfish · 19/11/2025 20:02

Anxiety and over reacting this severe needs counselling before your children pick up on it.

There I’ll be more more toxins from dyes on a birthday cake or in sweets or drinks than from a lick of a pen.

Are you joking orrrr? I can’t see anything online about Crayola and Ricin?!!!!! I don’t have the receipt / product code? They were only brought 3 weeks ago.

I'm guessing that this is your first child. Kids will eat far worse and be fine than trying to eat a Crayola felt tip.

Thats true, when you find your kid licking the sole of a shoe or the wheel of the buggy (both DS2, I think I grow weird sons) certain things dont matter anymore!

This was a very poor attempt at humour in frankly a cruel and needless way.

Ignore it.

Easy to be smug when those first few years of learning are a distant memory.
