Do vapers realise how bad they smell?

Yeah, yeah cigarettes stink. But do vapers realise how bad vapes smell and how that sticks to their clothes and hair as much as cigarette smoke does?

Not just the vapes that smell like demented haribo strawberries, but the ones that dont have a flavour. They all just smell awful. In fact the flavourless ones smell worse because they just smell like a dirty car.

Getting into the lift at work you can always smell if someone has just come in from a vape.

Again, cigarette smoke blah blah blah.

They’re bit using them to quit though. They’ve just replaced one disgusting habit with another.

It probably is disgusting, but what if that's what helps them to be able to function and contribute to society? I would hate to think that I had made someone who was struggling with their mental health feel worse by tutting and moaning about the smell.

What if I found their judgement and snobbery repulsive? What if that was a complete dealbreaker for me? Would that mean I could go from one place to another being horrible about them?

I would not want to do that too anyone. Splinters and planks spring to mind.

I’ve never been able to tell if someone vapes unless they are doing it in front of me. I come into contact with hundreds of people every day in work and have never noticed anyone smelling of a vape.

I don't like the smell but worst than that for me is the litter vapers leave everywhere.

I can’t smell vape on anyone that vapes. I can smell cigarette smoke on people and in their houses. Are you sure you can smell it? I genuinely don’t think you can 🙈 I feel like we need to put this to the test because I refuse to believe anyone would be able to smell that someone vapes by smelling their clothes or their house within 10 minutes of them stopping the vapour.

Working in early years, we’ve always been able to tell which children have parents who smoke by the smell of the book bag. There’s a definite odour on the ones whose parents vape indoors too. Kind of chemically, like gone off Farnese!

I have hyper smell and a couple of friends who vape and I think it’s a very minor smell when active and dissipates very quickly, never ever known it to stick to someone. So I’m really wondering if there is some hyperbole going on here.

I dislike when it’s done indoors near me, I don’t like the clouds, but the smell isn’t something I take issue with,

I've caught a whiff of very sweet-smelling vapes when walking right behind someone who is vaping in the street, but I can't say I've ever once noticed it on anyone's clothes. My brother vapes and it seems completely odourless to me.

My cousin smells like cheap perfume that's past its best. I suppose it's better than when she used to smell like an ashtray. She's sucking on her dummy all day long.

In fairness I think there's a problem with how vapes were initially marketed as 'safe' and a 'healthy' alternative to cigarettes and a LOT of people think they're just water and therefore not harmful to others as they probably don't see they're harmful to themselves. I think the scales are only falling away from people's eyes now slowly but vulnerable groups (more likely to rely on public transport etc) are also the least likely to engage with or access public health information. So I think to an extent its genuine ignorance as opposed to wilful twatness in a lot of cases.

But in answer to your original point, I don't overly mind the smell if it's faint and I'm outside but it's generally very artificial and sickening and I don't like it at all. Most people in my work vape but I've never noticed the smell hanging on them in the same way I'd notice if someone went out for a cigarette smoke break.

I've never noticed the smell of vape on a person or their clothes etc. Even in homes where people vape alot indoors there's no smell unless they are vaping at the time or in the few minutes previously.

I notice the smell of other things on people eg garlic, spicy foods, pets, perfumed soap etc so it's not that I have poor sense of smell.

I think it's probably more that you get irrationally enraged by other people & you try & rationalize your irritability & intolerance for other people by justifying it because you think they 'smell'

I think I may be hypersensitive to smells because I can smell it straight away! I just don’t understand why you would vape honestly 🙃 it’s such a comfort to some people too just holding on to it all day.

These people irritate me the most. Saw people vaping inside selfridges a few weeks ago 🤯 I don’t understand why vapers think they are exempt from the smoking ban?!

Not really if im honest. I can't smell anything on people who vape.
However, its incredibly irritating when im walking outside and someone puffs a vape and I end up with a candyfloss and breath scented cloud in my face.

But what lingering smell? I really don’t think there is one. I don’t want to breathe in anyone’s hot syrup breath, though, gross.

I’ve never noticed a gross or lingering smell. Wouldn’t know anyone is a vaper unless they actually did it near me and I like a sweet smell way more than cigarettes. There are lots of weed/THC vapes around, maybe you’re smelling them? That does linger and doesn’t have the traditional weed scent IMO. It’s kind of sweet but also a bit dirty/musty

My local NHS stop smoking scheme gives out free vapes so I don’t think they’re going away any time soon

Smoking in a certain atmosphere and done properly was cool, sexy and insouciant. Think Bryan Ferry, Marlon Brando, Kate Moss. I’m not even a smoker.

Vaping is just so unattractive. How can you fancy someone who vapes like they’re sucking on a giant dummy. Grim.

I don't think there are any that 'don't have a flavour'? If they didn't have a flavour then they wouldn't have an aroma either?! And why would someone buy it?

Anyway it's less gross than smoking so let people get on with it. As long as they're not doing it next to you in an enclosed space.

vaping isn’t smoking. That’s like saying a nicotine inhaler or patches is smoking
i quit a 40 a day smoking habit with a vape and I’m classed as a non smoker because… no smoke

The weed/THC/snake oil ones are the worse. They are the ones that smell like dirty stuffy cars.
