“Shut up, piggy”.

Trump told a female reporter this. How come this behaviour is accepted but if it was former president Obama, people would have lost their mind. Obama had to practically be ‘perfect’. When Obama wore a tan suit, it was such a huge deal.

Racism is a sick illness.

Don't be ridiculous. It's a story on every single news service. I've just listened to a radio discussion about it. Plenty of people have now posted links, but here's another one

https://news.sky.com/video/quiet-piggy-president-trump-snaps-at-reporter-over-epstein-question-13472409

Right. But what’s actually happening? If there are no consequences for Trump then it’s being accepted.

ChachaIntheLongrun · 18/11/2025 20:53

The problem is that we seem to get these old white men doing what they want, even despicable crimes yet bringing them to justice is mission impossible

Thinking rationally here; he said "Quiet, piggy!". Not the same as saying "Shut up!". He's not a fan of Bloomberg which she is a reporter for. The outlet is probably a heavily-biased news outlet favoured by Democrats. He was probably thinking a lot worse but was tame in his words given he was on camera. 'Piggy' is hardly insulting and if you find that it is, then, well, no advice for you from me. It's all tabloid fodder designed to rile people up, and it's worked.

I give up on people who think like this. I can’t even be bothered to come up with an argument against. I mean it’s so obviously rubbish…

Carla786 · 18/11/2025 20:55

I bet his diehard cultish set of Trumpsters will. I get why some voted for him (trans, inflation, border) but watching the cultist lot, even evangelicals, ignore the adultery in the infamous 'grab 'em' tape ('I moved on her very heavily...she was married' and this while he was engaged to Melania too) & the idolatry of the grotesque Trump Gaza golden statue he reposted is both hilarious and horrifying

echt · 18/11/2025 20:56

It's in the imperative mode, so it's an instruction to be quiet, i.e. shut up.

attichoarder · 18/11/2025 20:57

Absolutely appalling behaviour by Donald Trump. The way he spoke to the reporter was appalling and would have been whether they were male or female.

cardibach · 18/11/2025 20:57

Waitingfordoggo · 18/11/2025 20:50

@YorkshireGoldDrinker Of course it’s insulting! But the fact it’s insulting almost takes a back seat to how utterly fucking weird it is. It’s the sort of thing a small child might say to another small child.

But this is an old man saying it. An old man who happens to be POTUS. I think this would have been unimaginable just a decade ago.

A decade? A year…

The UK has handed the Prince control of our boxing, we can't criticise Trump for that one. The Prince was profusely thanked during Saturday's night of boxing. It's only Tyson Fury who doesn't kiss his arse.

Vile murderer. The House of Saud is disgusting.

The way our royals kowtowed to them is another reason they are unfit to 'rule' us.

What do you think of Trump's relationship with Epstein?

Carla786 · 18/11/2025 21:00

ShenandoahRiver · 18/11/2025 20:42

@MO0N
Exactly. Marjorie Taylor Green has said she has received death threats after he called her a traitor. And she has been one of his staunchest defenders for years. But Epstein was a step too far for her.

I do respect her for that. Also for calling out the starvation of Gaza. Israel must defend itself but not by starving civilians.

She is loathsome in some ways but she has courage & principles.

SwirlyGates · 18/11/2025 21:00

ShenandoahRiver · 18/11/2025 19:51

What is actually worse is that he is defending Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the White House this evening - defending him over the horrific murder of Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

Horrendous. The man has no morals and no compassion.

Andregroup · 18/11/2025 21:01

Piggy? It's bizarre. Had he been reading the Lord of the Flies or something? But no, that would be too intellectual for him - maybe watching the film? It's just such a weird thing to say. Who calls anyone piggy these days? And for what - it used to be 'greedy pig' if you ate more than your fair share of the Sunday roast, but even that isn't really said anymore I don't think. Very strange thing for him to say. Just weird.

Thebigonesgetaway · 18/11/2025 21:02

I am not sure many are accepting it op, and I don’t understand how you think it’s racism, Obama would never have said that.

tobee · 18/11/2025 21:02

Of course I don't have authority over what anyone says. Nor does anyone else. If you think that's the whole point then I have no advice for you @YorkshireGoldDrinker .

Eudaimonia11 · 18/11/2025 21:03

Trump can say and do whatever he wants with no consequences, it’s frightening.

If Keir Starmer was caught on camera saying that to someone, he’d be forced to hand in his resignation by the end of the day.

I was appalled (but not shocked) at his behaviour towards the ABC reporter at his press conference with the Crown Prince. He said something like “you’re a terrible person and a terrible reporter” and went on to indirectly threaten her job. Can you imagine saying “you’re a terrible person” to anyone in a professional work setting? It’s so personal and hurtful. She was doing her job, he could make a complaint about her manner but to be so horrible to her live on television was awful.

tobee · 18/11/2025 21:05

He's reduced politics and the office of President of the United States to its basest level. That's what's concerning.

JudgeJ · 18/11/2025 21:06

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 18/11/2025 20:18

Why is he never brought to account for anything?

By whom? For a very large number of Americans he is a hero, they care for nothing beyond their own shores and share his contempt of women. It really wouldn't surprise me if he managed to twist the rules for a third term, he will certainly be looking to place his family into the queue so he can continue to pull the strings.

If someone called you piggy you wouldn’t find it insulting??

Timeforabitofpeace · 18/11/2025 21:08

If anyone is the pig, it’s Trump.

Willcancelagainsoon · 18/11/2025 21:08

How is this racist?

Carla786 · 18/11/2025 21:08

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/11/2025 20:43

It is insulting. Not a single other US president in living memory would have said such a thing in public. It's a mystery how Trump gets away with everything he says and does.

Have you seen Tiger King? Carol Baskin could be criticised for a lot, but many people who loved it often hated her yet ignored Joe Exotic's animal abuse.

There's a theory that bad people who revel openly in being bad, like Exotic and Trump, are better liked than people who are seen as hiding bad behavior behind a good front. Essentially, people become so cynical that openly bad behaviour is seen paradoxically as an indicator of honesty and goodness (vice signalling). Which is obviously corrosive

Also think badly behaved men can get away with more. Baskin could be compared to Hillary Clinton.

There's also the celebrity side. Trump & Exotic play off their behaviour as celebrity tantrums. Celebrity culture & individualism has long been big in the US. Tellingly, Exotic even got quite a few votes when he ran a presidential campaign.

Neil Postman foresaw this when he wrote about TV making people treat politics as a show rather than a serious matter. It had only got worse since then.

Why Do We Love Joe Exotic and Hate Carole Baskin?

I don’t have an answer! But there is a pressing question on my mind about Netflix’s Tiger King

He recently shared an AI video of him literally dumping shit on the American people from a plane.
It makes you feel you’re going insane or in some weird dream.

Yes, and the cultists defended that as perfectly professional! Insane....

SilenceInside · 18/11/2025 21:11

@Andregroup He has used the "piggy" insult before, several times, aimed at women. I think in his mind, attempting to insult what a woman looks like is the most effective insult you can make to a woman. That you aren't attractive to him. Therefore you are worthless in his eyes, because that's the only way he values women.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 18/11/2025 20:24

Trump sycophants will accept anything
As would Obama sycophants

But most people are not just accepting that Trump said that. They just don't know what they can do any more, it's so low down on the list of things that man is getting away with (it's not even the worse thing he's said yesterday/today!)

What did Obama do,? I have a list of bad policies, but did he stoop as low as Trump?
