Business posted CCTV and my friend won’t own up

I had a night out with friends on Saturday night, when waiting for a taxi one of my friends I was with went into the corner of the car park behind a hairdressers and ‘relieved’ herself.

Fast forward to this morning, posts have been put up by the owner of the hairdressers on Facebook and Instagram. She has said that people using the car park is now a weekly occurrence and she is sick of it. She then said the latest incident was caught on CCTV and she has footage. There is then a grab of myself, my friend who went into the car park, and another friend stood outside the front of the building where we were waiting for the taxi. The owner asks for the person who it was to contact her to apologise. She also says she will be blocking access to the car park from when the salon closed on Saturday to Monday morning.

Loads of comments slagging us off. My friend is refusing to own up and says it will be forgotten within a day or two. Luckily it’s mainly my back visible in the grab but people who know me and who I am friends with will obviously know it’s me so very embarrassing.

AIBU to expect my friend to own up and get the image taken down?

You’re all v unreasonable. Why didn’t you even attempt to stop her?

holachicatita · 17/11/2025 18:14

The business put a picture up of your friend having a piss outside their premises? Am I getting this right? It's pretty rank but not the end of the world in the great scheme of things? She didn't cause any damage did she? Surely the pee would have ran onto the road or the rain washed it away?

CurlsLDN · 17/11/2025 18:15

Your friend is right, it will blow over. Hopefully she’s learned her lesson but I expect she’s mortified (like you) and doesn’t want to draw more attention to herself.

who’s to say the owner would remove the photo? Given the tone of her post I think she’s more likely to post an update like ‘Thankyou SARAH JONES for your apology’ just to really make her point, she has already shown that she’s very fed up and wants to make an example of your friend.

No, not the footage of that. A image of my friend plus me and another stood outside, insinuating that it was one of us.

Yeah I don’t think owning up here is going to make any difference. The damage is done. I’d be more furious with the salon owner and report the image as indecent

But she's right! It was one of you

Not me, which is my point to my friend

if she has cctv then surely she knows which one of you it is?
Even if she only has cctv from the front of the shop it should be pretty obvious that the only one who disappears from view for 5 mins was the one who went round the back to pee.

Although tbh unless she caught your friend literally pissing on CCTV I also can't see how she knew she had - I wouldn't have thought there would be much evidence left by Monday morning of one woman peeing 36 hours earlier?

Where has she posted the footage? On her own social media pages or on local groups? If the second, contact the admin, if the first message Insta/fb directly. Currently the only 'evidence' she seems to have is that the 3 of you stood outside her shop for a bit...

OCDmama · 17/11/2025 19:05

Yeah, the business is in the wrong. Posting CCTV is a breach of data protection laws. People buy this kind of equipment without ever looking into the legalities of how you're actually permitted to use it.

But you were there and presumably could’ve told said friend to not be dusgusting?

You really think that would have stopped someone desperate for a wee and pissed? I doubt it

Yes I would physically stop my friends from pissing on someone else’s property.

CosySeason · 17/11/2025 19:10

It will be forgotten about soon enough.

PInkyStarfish · 17/11/2025 19:12

That’s absolutely gross. If you went to a venue that sells drink then I think by law they have to have a toilet on the premises, so your revolting chum could have gone before you left.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 17/11/2025 19:12

Hmm. Why would a business owner randomly go through weekend CCTV unless it was poo that was in the car park.

Just saying … wee would not even be noticeable.

BillieWiper · 17/11/2025 19:14

You didn't do anything wrong and if your friend doesn't want to publicly admit it on an international social media platform then you can't force her.
Just forget about it and I'm sure you don't need to tell her not to pee in car parks again in future!

I do have some sympathy if there were no loos around and she was desperate though.

IPM · 17/11/2025 19:16

I wouldn't expect someone who thinks it's ok to piss at the back of a hairdressers, to come forward and own up.

She doesn't sound as though morals are her thing really.

My hairdresser has a Ring doorbell back and front of her shop.

So she may have got a notification.

Why wouldn't they, if no one should be going in that area when they are closed it's sensible surely to have a whizz through the CCTV from when they are closed.

Most cameras are motion activated so presumably we aren't talking about more than a couple of minutes to check

I assume the owner can see what trespassers are doing, she doesnt need physical evidence

PracticalPixie · 17/11/2025 19:21

I think we need to know if it was definitely just a wee...

anon2022anon · 17/11/2025 19:23

I think I would put up an anonymous response to the post, reminding the owner that it's breaking GDPR to post CCTV of someone, and you hope she doesn't get reported for sharing those on social media...

lhavetoask · 17/11/2025 19:29

I mean you can own up surely and discuss with the salon yourself? It’s your choice whether you drop your friend’s name to them, but at the very least you can explain your pov to the owner and see if they will take down the image or blur you out given that you weren’t the offender.

Chinsupmeloves · 17/11/2025 19:32

Sounds more like a shock wake up call to everyone who has been pissing there and they aren't actually expecting an apology. To embarrass and make people think, you just happened to the ones it was done to. A wee isn't criminal damage or vandalism but it would nice of her to apologise anonymously. Xxx
