Which posters do you assume are men on mumsnet?

Tiramisutully · 17/11/2025 15:16

On mumsnet I assume most of the posters are women, and read their posts internally with a woman’s ‘voice’ in mind. But there are some posts where my mind is telling me that the poster HAS to be a bloke.

AIBU to think that those who claim a man pawing a women’s arse in public is just a sign of affection, and those that refer to Rachel Reeves as ‘Rachel from accounts’ are definitely men?

I don't think you need to be a man to know that Rachel Reeves was slightly creative with her CV.

I know but you wouldn’t use such a misogynistic trope, assuming that the first female chancellor got her job by accident etc.

Mysticmaud · 17/11/2025 15:20

I ask if they are being particularly misogynistic.
There was also a thread about why men post on mumsnet. That was enlightening.

KoiTetra · 17/11/2025 15:22

I assume that KoiTetra is a man, other than that I try not to make assumptions about people.

Also the majority of women in my family use the name "Rachel from accounts". I however do not and hate it. (Not because I am a huge fan of hers but the name really grates on me). Rather than belittling her if you disagree use your big words to explain why she's wrong like an adult not name calling like a 5 year old (that may be offensive to some 5 year olds who are above that).

mamagogo1 · 17/11/2025 15:24

I find it interesting that men do post on the non parenting boards of Mumsnet but I do understand that for some dads, especially those parenting alone, there isn’t many equivalent advice sources hence turning here - alas I know of two men raising dc alone due to their wives dying in childbirth, I know one of them was given a lot of support in the early days posting in the middle of the night struggling with a newborn and said it saved him

I would and I’m a woman. I think it just adds fuel to the fire of misogynists when the first woman to get the Chancellor position is found to have done so by LYING about her experience and qualifications.

It affects all of we women who have and are climbing that ladder without lying.

Because now we not only have a woman who did lie her way to the top, she is also being allowed to stay. Like it’s oh, that’s ok, we know no woman could actually be qualified so we have to look the other way.

Sorry, what? Alluding to the fact that a person embroidered their CV is now misgynistic?

FiatLuxAdAstra · 17/11/2025 15:27

To answer the question, I assume any poster that accuses a poster of being a man of being a man.

So I never assume any poster is a man based on their posts alone. As a woman, I know we don’t all think alike. It’s only imho men who think women have a “hive mind” and we should all have closely aligned opinions and views.

Everyone on the Sex board

It hasn't been the same since the brief opening of the sex board to active and we found out what was going on in there.

They've seemed to have filtered out and stayed.

Yep.

The ones who start every post with 'Man here' can be safely ignored, I find.

InterestedDad37 · 17/11/2025 15:30

My username is a giveaway. Throughout my working life and personal life I have always spent most of my time in the company of women, and I generally prefer it to male company. I was a single parent through my kids' teenage years too, and though they're all adults now, I still find the parenting things of interest. I mostly just come to AIBU, don't bother with the rest of the site (usually). I read it much like I'd read the letters or problem page in a paper or mag. It's usually just to take my mind off something or to pass the time aimlessly.
I do the same on another site related to main hobby.

mutinyonthetwix · 17/11/2025 15:31

I could imagine women like Julia Hartley-Brewer or Isabel Oakeshott using the "Rachel from accounts" term. I don't think it necessarily means it's a bloke.

I haven’t seen her CV but she has got a degree in PPE from Oxford, followed by a masters in economics from LSE, Sge spend 5.5 years as an economist at the Bank of England(not 9 as her cv said) then going onto work as economist for HBOS. The cv error was blamed on her admin team. I’m no fan of hers - the increase in e’er NICs was daft and the pledge not to increase VAT, NIC and income tax was too - but she is far better qualified for the job than many, many of her predecessors.

I haven’t been on the sex board. Don’t think I want to now. Is it full of ‘my partner only wants to have sex a maximum of twice a night. Is this normal?

Yes just slightly zooming past the (not 9 as her cv said) and The cv error was blamed on her admin team.

I've got a bridge to sell you, if you'd like?

None of our pointing out that her CV was wrong, implies we are men or are in any way misogynistic.

Rachel Reeves got her job despite lying on her CV. The fact that she is the first Chancellor in no mitigates that fact.

The people who call her "Rachel from Accounts" are not all men, just like the people who call Keir Starmer "Two Tier", "Free Gear" and "Never Here" are not all women.

Okiedokie123 · 17/11/2025 15:38

@InterestedDad37 Personally I like contributions from men such as yourself whose username makes it very clear what you are and whose comments are Im guessing always as your comment is on this thread - wise words/kind/useful contributions to the discussion.
All the rest though = I wish we could shut the door very firmly on them!

have a peek. The thought of all the men thinking they’re talking to women, but really talking to each other makes me chuckle.

Came here to say exactly this.

Luckyingame · 17/11/2025 15:51

Rachel Reeves has Masters in Economics?? 😲
That was from another bucket.
Male posters - complaining about "lack of intimacy" in relationships.
I cringe every time I see this. So much more (shit)
usually goes on.

Dacatspjs · 17/11/2025 15:52

I get accused of being a man from time to time. I'm not. I often find it's from posters who disagree with me but can't articulate why, saying "must be a man" seems to be the worst insult they can think of.
