Which posters do you assume are men on mumsnet?

On mumsnet I assume most of the posters are women, and read their posts internally with a woman’s ‘voice’ in mind. But there are some posts where my mind is telling me that the poster HAS to be a bloke.

AIBU to think that those who claim a man pawing a women’s arse in public is just a sign of affection, and those that refer to Rachel Reeves as ‘Rachel from accounts’ are definitely men?

Occasionally I think it's very obvious, but in general, I'd be wary of assuming people are men, simply because I've been accused of being a man a few times on here, usually on AIBU threads about sex-related matters. I find it really misogynistic to be honest.

5128gap · 17/11/2025 16:00

I tend to picture posters who offer one liners such as 'The misandry on here is disgusting' 'There's a lot of bitter man-haters on here' and 'MN double standards at their finest' as men. Those who use lots of laughing emoji when they disagree instead if saying why, i picture as youngish men who never leave their bedrooms.

EarthlyNightshade · 17/11/2025 16:01

Some of the really misogynistic comments on here I hope are from men but I would never challenge anyone.

I think comments like Rachel from accounts come from people who just like to be identifiable as part of a tribe with a particular viewpoint. It's not very original but it chimes with people who share the viewpoint.

Goldenbear · 17/11/2025 16:03

The 'Rachel from accounts' posters are just misogynists. Internalised misogyny is a thing.

I have been accused of being a man on here for not being GC enough, so there's that too.

ilovesooty · 17/11/2025 15:49

I've been accused of being a man. I'm not.

I have been asked am I a man? Because was raised by grumpy old chauvinist dad with great morals, who see topics of marriage in black and white, as other issues like sex, abortion, eutanasia etc

5128gap · 17/11/2025 16:17

The Rachel from Accounts thing is said by people with little wit or origionality, who latch on to a poor joke then regurgitate it incessantly, because they still consider it clever and amusing, despite it having whiskers. It's typically men who do this. Although women do it too, often prefaced by "My DH calls her...."

NewCushions · 17/11/2025 16:20

I think men are usually more spotted by tone. Lots of women can be as misogynist as some men.

LingeringDogFart · 17/11/2025 16:21

Tiramisutully · 17/11/2025 15:20

I know but you wouldn’t use such a misogynistic trope, assuming that the first female chancellor got her job by accident etc.

I think you’re being a little naive to think women can’t be misogynistic. Sometimes it’s so internalised that they aren’t even aware of it. Although I’m sure you’ll now think I’m a man just trying to justify misogyny 😂

I find it interesting that men do post on the non parenting boards of Mumsnet but I do understand that for some dads, especially those parenting alone, there isn’t many equivalent advice sources hence turning here - alas I know of two men raising dc alone due to their wives dying in childbirth, I know one of them was given a lot of support in the early days posting in the middle of the night struggling with a newborn and said it saved him

I’m so glad he did…

I get accused of being a man from time to time. I'm not. I often find it's from posters who disagree with me but can't articulate why, saying "must be a man" seems to be the worst insult they can think of.

I've been accused of being AI , perhaps next time it will be a male AI 😁

nellietheellie75 · 17/11/2025 16:31

There's one poster I always read as a man- no idea whether they are male or female just gives off male vibes to me every time.

It isn’t misogyny to roast a liar for lying.

BlueBarnOwl · 17/11/2025 15:18

I don't think you need to be a man to know that Rachel Reeves was slightly creative with her CV.

This. As a biological woman, I can see it. 🙄

I haven’t been on the sex board. Don’t think I want to now. Is it full of ‘my partner only wants to have sex a maximum of twice a night. Is this normal?

Ha well I’ve quite often seen posts chiding an OP or other posters for thinking once a week or once a month was acceptable. Funnily enough I was just thinking about this today as I work with a lot of women from the Philippines and it’s quite common for them to be over here and husbands back home for several years. One of my colleagues has been here five years, just seeing her husband for a short holiday once a year. Not sure how they are supposed to manage such a deficient sex life according to some of these posters. Weirdly they do. 🤷‍♀️💖

BillieWiper · 17/11/2025 16:39

I take it that if someone on here is a man they should announce themselves as such. When making a thread. But I guess they can't in every single post.
I think there's been people I assume were men who seem very pro TWAW.

I do often assume those who think transwomen should be in ladies loos are men, because having been sexually assaulted a number of times (like so many women) I would find it terrifying being in an enclosed space like a changing room with a biological man. And most men have no idea about the level of sexual assault women suffer and how this leads to feeling intimidated when men enter spaces women used to assume were ‘safe’.

But women are not one generic block of people so I can see that others may have different views.

Any anyone who says ‘ladies’ I side-eye.

Oh and I’m suspicious of TracyKim123234 type user names.

TempestTost · 17/11/2025 16:44

Usually I assume they are women unless they give a detail that says something else is much more likely. Like, they were a submariner, say.

I think it's annoying when people assume someone is a woman just because she has an opinion they don't like.

TempestTost · 17/11/2025 16:58

Goldenbear · 17/11/2025 16:03

Quite a few on the current affairs topics, there's a way a man argues a point.

There are probably some patterns, but no, you can't tell if someone is a man based on how they argue.

TempestTost · 17/11/2025 16:59

FiatLuxAdAstra · 17/11/2025 16:35

Me too. I think because I happen to like the Romans

I also have been accused of this. Because of how I argue, like a pp said.

I tend to think that's more do do with my education, which is in a male dominated area. Which deals with the Romans, as it happens.

Harveysabrina · 17/11/2025 17:14

Pretty much all the late-night posted threads that go along the lines of gather around and tell me stories of your periods/boobs/underwear/toilet habits.

I always have a vision of Vic Reeves rubbing his legs from shooting stars

Oh, I must be a man then. news to my gynaecologist

I don't like double standards on here, or generalisations, and will often point them out in a thread
