To think happiness is just delusion we’ve learned to manage well?

People act like happiness is a destination when it’s clearly a distraction. AIBU to think contentment is just clever denial?

Oh look a word salad.

IvedoneitagainhaventI · 16/11/2025 10:15

I don't know about happiness being a delusion but ime it's very transitory.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/11/2025 10:19

Depends what you think of as happiness. I feel a sense of contentment that I would say is also happiness most of the time. I have moments of delirious happiness but life can't always be like that. There are also periods of deep sadness or worry. But for now contentedly happy is enough.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 16/11/2025 10:20

Seven times ten is seventy.

Seven is a journey, seventy is the destination.

Tigers weep and monkeys cry.

takealettermsjones · 16/11/2025 10:22

These bot questions are all very GCSE English lit. 🤣

GreyCloudsLooming · 16/11/2025 10:25

Happiness and contentment are not the same.

PullTheBricksDown · 16/11/2025 10:26

Oh hello, random three words name poster with a really abstract 'discuss' thread. Why don't you share some of your own experiences that make you think this?

Happiness and contentment are not the same.

Perhaps not for you they definitely are for me.

Boomer55 · 16/11/2025 10:27

Sometimes life brings happiness, sometimes it brings stress and grief - both are normal emotions and feelings.

Just a case of embracing the happy times, and ploughing through the unhappy times. 🤷‍♀️

CioCio · 16/11/2025 10:28

You again?

I’d suggest that happiness would be far more likely an outcome for you if you were to step away from the internet, and take a break from posting these ‘questions’.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/11/2025 10:29

I suppose what am saying is that maybe we should pursue contentment rather than happiness as it is longer lasting and leads to a sense of peace.

LilyGeorge · 16/11/2025 10:30

Your OP is rather opaque, so hopefully this addresses your question.

I do believe that it is possible to be happy and more than that, to lead a happy life.

But I do think that increasing numbers of people have forgotten what happy means. And it doesn’t mean brimming with joy at every moment.

It doesn’t mean always getting your own way.

It doesn’t mean never being temporarily bored, stressed, annoyed, inconvenienced, upset or offended.

It doesn’t mean having all the material things you’ve ever wanted.

It certainly doesn’t mean being centre of attention all the time.

Happy is having enough: a family you love, friends and community, somewhere safe to live and work to do. It’s having the resilience deal with the “rainy days”.

I'm genuinely starting to wonder if these weird philosophical posts we're getting once a day everyday, are programmed by MNHQ to 'prompt discussion'? 🤔

They're like clockwork and always rather strange.

littleburn · 16/11/2025 10:32

Oh do fuck off with these posts.

ObtuseMoose · 16/11/2025 10:34

If 2 trains leave Edinburgh at 7.15 what time does Sally eat breakfast? Show your work.

I knew it was going to be one of these. They're getting tedious.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 16/11/2025 10:37

And this is the problem with AI.... no context or relatability.....it's obviously on its philosophical module at the moment....

ForHazelTiger · 16/11/2025 10:37

Well you could say everything is a delusion as we are just clusters of atoms but it doesn't really get you anywhere to think like that so you may as well enjoy yourself...

Which train is Sally on?

Nitgel · 16/11/2025 10:39

Happiness is just an illusiom. Filled with sadness and confusion.

HansHolbein · 16/11/2025 10:39

Boring

Neither but she does have 12 watermelons and gives two to Danny. How many watermelons does her next door neighbour have?

But tell me - what becomes of the broken hearted?
