To have not put my heating on yet

I am still hot, bearly broken into a jumper yet and it seems people are cold and putting the heating on.
Is it just me or is anyone else still wearing t-shirts and opening windows?
Everyone I speak to seems to have theirs on and looking around I see people in winter coats.

Does heating help combat damp/ mould?

Yes

I’m in Plymouth

Plymouth is practically France! It snowed here yesterday.

OneKeenPeachRaven · 15/11/2025 22:32

Meh, my heating is on 22 during the day all year round. I'm in Scotland, so if that means it comes on in late August (not unknown) so be it and if it clicks itself off in November (as it did when it was unseasonably mild earlier this month), also so be it.

Not in a t-shirt: woolly joggers, a vest top and a knee length woolly cardigan at the moment.

Dutchhouse14 · 15/11/2025 23:00

Well we've just had bonfire night which was freezing when I was a child, ie wearing lots of layers and 3 pairs of socks, wooly hat and gloves and you could see your breath in front of you. Definitely not as cold in November as it used to be.
I have had my heating on though.
I work from home during the day so sitting still and feeling the cold, if I'm moving around d doing housework then it's fine.
I have been wearing coats more as, rain protection than from the cold.
I think it is getting colder next week.
If you can't afford it or don't feel the cold and live alone or everyone else in your family isn't cold then of course it's fine.
But I do have a couple of friends who make a virtue out of it and it's bloody freezing if I go round their houses!! Which makes it uncomfortable to visit them, especially if I ve forgotten to layer up.

madcatterlady · 16/11/2025 12:07

I haven’t put it on yet either as it hasn’t been cold enough where I am in my house. But it will be going on tomorrow, judging by the weather forecast.

Qualityroses · 16/11/2025 12:23

My windows are all open every day. I close them just before it gets dark. I ran this morning in a crop top and tiny shorts. DH is currently in the garden in shorts.
I hate the feeling of heat and stuffiness so our heating is rarely used. I WFH and the daytime indoor temperature is around 14. That's perfect for me. Mumsnet hates people that don't like heating though and think we see it as some kind of competition but I genuinely hate heating.

SheinIsShite · 16/11/2025 12:32

Which is fine. There ARE some posters who see it as a competition, and talk about "holding out" and pour scorn on anyone who wants to be warmer than 14c.

Yes, you're right I'm forgetting it was sunny, really sunny - did a couple of great walks in that half term with my coat round my waist. God knows what it would take for them to lift the ban. The Nidd, Ouse are already up fgs. Presumably with all the leaking pipes everywhere the extra volume is just going around in circles with no one able to use it. Yorkshire water are such tossers. There's a beck by my allotment with a couple of overflow run-offs that have been pissing out water these last couple of weeks but apparently we're still in shortage.

Mind you, they used a bit putting the Moors fire out...

Which is fair enough - but those of us who are suffering are sick to death of being told we’re putting others down. I’d love nothing more than to not be hideously hot, purple in the face, and wanting to throw up just because I’ve mopped the floor whilst it’s 10 degrees outside. It’s honestly miserable

strangetimesbelow · 16/11/2025 15:40

Rural and Perthshire here. Heating is on as I type. It’s cold. I think we’ve been fortunate with some milder weather throughout October and even the last couple of weeks but a definite shift the last day or so.

Allthesnowallthetime · 16/11/2025 15:41

The water in the birdbath froze last night, and there was ice on the car windows this morning.

My heating is definitely on!

What difference does it make to you what anyone else is doing.

Equally, what difference does it make to anyone else what OP is doing? It's just Another of Those Threads, tedious and not remotely original. Admin should set a quota for heating threads in October and November.

Yes exactly.

Unless the quota was into 3 figures it would be used up in a couple of days 😂

Not sure how anyone managed to make heating decisions in the pre internet age

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 16/11/2025 17:19

-2 this morning, the heating definitely went on!

Notadramallama · 16/11/2025 17:21

My boiler is broken and my house is currently 12 degrees inside. I can't wait for it to be replaced. I am currently under a 13 tog duvet on the sofa.

Well quite. I meant more like 3 (or, generously, 5) each autumn then cut off. No more allowed.

It’s not that cold.

we don’t need the heating on consistently in this country.

Maybe you don't need the heating on consistently but not everyone's the same.

I'm in my late 70s and pretty active and I feel the cold very badly regardless of how many layers I wear. My heating has been on at various times of the day for some time now and has certainly been on in the evenings.

Some posters are saying that their homes are warm enough at 18 degree but if mine is 21 or colder my heating goes on.

Although, having said that, my heating is turned off overnight regardless of how low the temperature is.

SliceofTosst · 16/11/2025 18:47

In London. Currently 7° outside but not on yet as inside my flat is 20° atm.

Laserwho · 17/11/2025 08:00

I have arthritis. If the house gets below a certain temperature In in acute pain. So yes the heatings on. There's no prize for keeping it off you know

EuroTour · 17/11/2025 11:15

Still 19.5° here. Temp is predicted to drop more this week though

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 17/11/2025 11:24

I've had mine on for half an hour in the morning a handful of times since late October.

It has turned cold now so I expect it will become a more regular occurrence.

RedPony1 · 17/11/2025 11:51

EchoedSilence · 15/11/2025 14:32

My house would feel cold at 18 degrees.

This, my house feels cold anything under 21

BauhausOfEliott · 17/11/2025 12:09

Why would you need to ask if your personal heating preferences are unreasonable? If you're cold, put the heating. If you're not, don't. There's no reasonable/unreasonable about it.

SpaceRaccoon · 17/11/2025 12:10

we don’t need the heating on consistently in this country.

Northern Scotland would like to dispute that.
