To have not put my heating on yet

I am still hot, bearly broken into a jumper yet and it seems people are cold and putting the heating on.
Is it just me or is anyone else still wearing t-shirts and opening windows?
Everyone I speak to seems to have theirs on and looking around I see people in winter coats.

Fucking hate these threads on Mumsnet every year. The temperature range is wide across the UK. I’m in Scotland and we have the fire on.

Jesus Christ, what the fuck is it with these threads.

Only early 40s but my mum was early 40s when she hit menopause so it could be that. They say you tend to follow.

It's not a competition. Mine's been on since September - there is no reason for me to be cold.

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/11/2025 15:26

Oh joy, a performative heating post… I’m in Central Scotland. It’s cold, and I feel the cold. My heating has been on for ages. I give no fucks, lol. Feel free not to invite me to your icebox house, lol.

struckbychristmaslights · 15/11/2025 14:39

When did I say itbwas a competition? I asked a question.

Out of interest why would you possibly think you could be unreasonable? Why is it a question?

Brummygirl · 15/11/2025 15:32

Yes. You are completely unreasonable for not putting the heating on. Will nobody think of the energy companies?

Seriously, OP, how is this an AIBU? If you're not cold, don't put your heating on. When you are, do.

FWIW, it's about 9° here today. We haven't put the heating on yet this year because we haven't felt the need to. But it's usually on by November.

Having read other posts, I'm ETA,.I'm 51 but not excessively warm, just normal, and a size 10/12.

My optimal temperature is around 14°. How have some people forgotten that we're all different in so many ways?

Topseyt123 · 15/11/2025 15:45

I do love the annual MN race to the bottom about who can be last to put the heating on. 🤣🤣

Our heating is on a timer twice a day, morning and evening. The thermostat is set at 18.5⁰c so it will only come on if the internal temperature drops below that. So far it has not kicked in very often. Just a few minutes here and there.

I'm in the south east by the way. Very different climate and weather from what might be being experienced in, say, Scotland.

Passthecake30 · 15/11/2025 15:53

We’ve had the fire on twice, but not the central heating. Judging by the forecast, it’ll be going on next week!
I think the reason why we’ve managed to avoid it is that we live in the east/south east and also I bought a heated airer, so that’s handling the washing with the benefit of warming up the living room. So I’m probably cheating, if it is a competition 😁

loganrock · 15/11/2025 15:54

I bow to your superiority OP.

It’s a race I never win as our heating is on a timer all year round and kicks in every time it goes below a certain temperature.

AgnesMcDoo · 15/11/2025 15:54

Where I live its 7C so if it’s alright with you I’ve got my heating on

Zanatdy · 15/11/2025 15:55

Mine isn’t on yet either (but in a flat). It’s 22.2 in my lounge currently. Weather is getting colder in next few days though

Fairyliz · 15/11/2025 15:57

Surely most people have a thermostat so the heating comes on automatically when the temperature drops below a certain temperature and if it’s a warmer day it doesn’t come on at all?

Tryingtokeepgoing · 15/11/2025 15:58

My heating is permanently on, but only kicks in if the temperature drops. I went for walk this afternoon in jeans and a T shirt. No jacket required as it was 17 degrees. I expect the heating will still kick in this evening though, once it’s dark.

EverardDeTroyes · 15/11/2025 15:58

My heating went on in September. But by that I mean, it was set to come on when the temperature dropped below a certain temperature (varies throughout the day and night but currently 17.5 degrees, in the evening 19 degrees, etc) I honestly couldn't tell you how often the heating comes on or how often it is not needed. I do agree though that it is unseasonably warm right now, but I think I saw snow forecast soon?

I don't know. Every single time, someone will come on with an air of authority and say that it's not necessary, it's not cold enough in the UK, they've got the windows wide open, etc etc.
Predictable.

Same here! We have a thermostat. Similar temperature. So we're not "putting it on".

VegQueen · 15/11/2025 16:03

I just leave my thermostat on the same settings year round so it comes on when the house gets below a certain temperature, I don’t decide when to put it on… isn’t that what most people do? It has come on a few times this autumn but not recently as it’s been very warm this past week or so. But surely a big factor will be where in the county you live and how well insulated your house is…

Meggie2008 · 15/11/2025 16:05

Ours is on a thermostat so it comes on whenever the house goes below that temperature. It's came on fairly regularly over the last few weeks. It's on now, I'm on the west coast of Scotland and the temperature really dropped here yesterday and is the same today

ObelixtheGaul · 15/11/2025 16:07

I'm in North Yorkshire. Heating set to come on if temperature internally drops below 16, and only for an hour in the morning and two hours in the evening. Our house is semi detached, built in the 1920s.

The heating hasn't been on much at all, the odd ten minutes it's cut in. Today, the thermostat shows 15 degrees, so it will come on later, I expect, but the house does heat up quickly, so won't be for long.

shiverjrteee · 15/11/2025 16:13

Our heating has been on for weeks and I genuinely don’t care what other people are doing, each to their own 🤷‍♀️

No not at all size 6 and short. I do live with my husband but he’s nothing to go by as he’s just a hot person regardless.
I’m usually freezing all the time in other years and have my heating on in September but looking around it seems just me.
I have taken a rain coat out once or twice but ripped it off all hot sweaty.
Maybe it’s peri? I’ve found shops are unbearably hot lately and can’t bear the duvet on, still using a fan at night.

I’ve found that I’ve needed a big coat on to travel to the shops but once in then I am boiling hot! They all seem to have the heating on full blast and I’ve also heard other shoppers saying the same thing about needing a coat but not for when in the shops.

It was still hitting 16° in the north east early November which we aren’t used to.

RuncibleSpoons · 15/11/2025 16:28

It’s really not been cold enough yet to hear the whole house. We’ve been lighting the wood burner most evenings, but that’s more because we love it than we need the heat.

LingeringDogFart · 15/11/2025 16:31

Yikes. Mines been intermittent since October. Mind you I have a condition where I can’t regulate my body temperature and really suffer. I need to live in a warm country. I’d save a fortune in heating.
