What is the point in life?

Just curious to read about all your viewpoints?
is it to acquire money/career?
is it to provide for your children once you’re gone? (Leave money in your will so that they will be comfortable)
is it to enjoy life “in the moment” through travelling the world, experiencing cultures, eating out, etc
is it through charity and good deeds
or to just simply exist and be grateful for it regardless of anything else (finances, etc)

As a white woman from an affluent background, I feel like my calling in life is to educate the people of my ethnicity about the vast amount of privilege they exhibit on a day to day basis, and how they can share that load out to make life easier for people from a minority background.

Thegrassroots26 · 15/11/2025 16:29

Damned if I know. I would like to say it’s about having good relationships, connection and love, if so I’m doing a pretty bad job!

FlyingApple · 15/11/2025 16:35

To enjoy my family. To be in nature.

The purpose of any journey is to get to the end.

Totally disagree! I used to think this about Mystery Tours - that all that mattered was the destination - but then I realised that the major part of the tour is what you see on the way.

Same with life - enjoy the scenery, enjoy the experiences, enjoy the journey.

Doobedobe · 15/11/2025 16:53

To contribute to humanity, whatever form that takes. I don't think we know our full purpose yet, but I do think it will become clear many generations into the future. Everything now is a work towards.

JLou08 · 15/11/2025 16:53

There isn't much of a 'point' to it, we live, possibly reproduce to maintain the human race and eventually die. I find it sad when people get obsessed and stressed around careers and making as much money as possible to the point they don't enjoy their life in the moment. Even sadder for those who die or health deteriorates before retirement.

The purpose of any journey is to get to the end.

We all know the end; death is the only certainty. It is the journey (and what you do with the journey) that counts.

hellowhaaat3632 · 15/11/2025 17:00

To be grateful that a random fusion of cells ended up in your existence which is totally improbable and yet still happened... ( not to mention all the random events that happened before that)

Fucking amazing if you think about it

TwinkleTwinkleLittleBatgirl · 15/11/2025 17:01

What is meaning of life?
42?

FateAmenableToChange · 15/11/2025 17:07

You are consciousness experiencing itself. The point of life is simply to live it.

ButtonMushrooms · 15/11/2025 17:12

You have to find your own purpose and it will be different for different people. I think you need to feel "fulfilled" in one or more areas of your life - whether that's your partner, your kids, your job, travel, hobbies etc.

Sarah2891 · 15/11/2025 17:17

There isn't one. It's all pretty ridiculous when you really think about it.

mbizzles · 15/11/2025 17:27

I truly believe "we are spiritual beings having a human experience" and so I think, above everything else, we are here to love and be loved. I try to centre that belief in every little action I do - whether it's just making small talk at the supermarket or being present for my children. And we have no idea as to the ripple effects of our actions. One small act of kindness to a stranger might have positive consequences you can't even imagine. So for me, that's what it's about. Love.

itsthetea · 15/11/2025 17:31

Does it need a point?

PetuniaP · 15/11/2025 17:35

To live, laugh, love.
🤢

thankgoditssaturday · 15/11/2025 17:36

To procreate. To raise my children to be the best people they can be. To do some good; empathy, kindness - think that’s why I became a nurse. To love and be loved.

TheSwarm · 15/11/2025 17:37

There isn't one.

5128gap · 15/11/2025 17:38

As I'm not religious, I don't think there is one. We are here by accident of nature for a while before being reabsorbed into nature.
Given that, we might as well use our time here to enjoy ourselves, whatever that looks like for us, and help other people to do the same.

Fiftyandme · 15/11/2025 17:38

There isn’t any. At all. All humans do is fuck up the world. That’s it. Were an utterly pointless species

BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice · 15/11/2025 17:40

Do it til you can’t or don’t want to anymore.

This is the main thing that annoys me about life. It doesn’t give you the option to get out of it.

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 15/11/2025 17:46

Don't worry, be happy
(And, 42)

It does.

dudsville · 15/11/2025 17:54

Biologically it's about reproduction, as said upthread. Beyond that, we have a much meaning as the river and sky, and I'm good with that.

WestwardHo1 · 15/11/2025 17:57

There is no point.

However that doesn't mean you shouldn't try and live your best life.
