Yip A whole Thread about Tesco Breaded Haddock

Okay I'm feeling a bit outraged this morning. Over Fish!

Tesco Frozen Haddock Fillets 500g - it was £3.5 for a while. Then recently it went up to £4 which was quite a jump - about 12.5% This was recently as in the last 3 months because I am still smarting from the increase when I buy it.

Doing my Tesco Shop just now and it's gone up again to £4.40. So another jump of 10%

So in the last 3 months this box of fish has gone up 22.5%

And people wonder why they are struggling to control their food shop bill.

What can have happened to cause such a large increase over 12 weeks approx.

YANBU - Tesco are raking in the profits and putting up the price
YABU - Tesco are suffering this much in increased costs and having to pass it on to customers

We occasionally get fish and chips usually when dh has a hospital appt which is an hour away normally at 4.30 so easier to have that. It was £17. for 2 fish and 1 chips i thought that was extortionate but sucked it up as a very rare treat. But we had it again on Thursday £19.65 I even asked the chap if he'd got my order right. He had so that's the end of that particular meal.

We got fish and chips on Fri after is had a hospital appointment. First time in about a year. 2 fish 1 large bag of chips (to share), used to be about £19. On Friday it cost £27.50! It's going to be a long time before we have chippy fish and chps again!

A loaf of bread was £1.65 in Tesco about four weeks ago is now labelled £2.20. It's crazy and bears no relation to the inflation figure which gets bandied about.

RaininSummer · 14/06/2026 17:14

Stuff is going up in Lidl too. The cheapest cottage cheese is now 99p and my fave fish fingers have gone from 2.99 to 3.49.

The price of fresh cod and haddock has rocketed. Lots of fish and chip shops are going out of business as a result.

Pollocks!

There's no point carping about it - eventually you will be knocked off your perch, and end up floundering about like the rest of us

mumumental · 15/06/2026 10:47

Lots of that breaded haddock is more bread than fish anyway. Which also skyrockets the calories, if anyone cares.

Edwinstarrihavefaithinyou · 15/06/2026 11:12

I prefer my haddock fillets naked.salt, pepper and squeeze of lemon 😋

No, just in tuna with the times.

I'm sick of herring about all these problems - it's a krill, krill world. Just got to hope for betta things and remember remora is another day.

Enough with the cod-psychology. I feel like we're being catfished...

Have a deep look into your sole.

Well, this comment has left me reeling. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mussel into your territory, but it's so hard to find a pike-minded group of people.
I know I am skateing on thin ice but honestly, chatting here has been a ray of sunshine in my otherwise monkfish existence.

This thread is fishing for compliments, in halibut name, but the net is closing in as scales fall from people’s eyes…

Julehavehadyourtea · 16/06/2026 22:02

I confess, I'm just trawling on here, without a trout, I am only here for the turbot-charged prawns

WhatcakeshalIbaketoday · 16/06/2026 22:30

A bag of Young’s scampi recently bought for £6 in Sainsbury’s. There were only 8 pieces in it, I’m not buying that again.

Sunshineandoranges · 16/06/2026 22:40

Aldi frozen haddock fillets are nice...£3.39

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 16/06/2026 23:07

The cost of everything was always going to go up when we voted for Brexit. The shops have avoided passing it on for a few years but it was always going to happen and now it has. You can thank Nigel Farage and his followers.

And it's mostly breadcrumbs...swizz.

Jk987 · 17/06/2026 07:02

You don’t have to get the exact same product though. Youngs or Birds Eye might be on offer. Or chunky fish fingers. Or battered instead of breaded.

PreachyPie · 17/06/2026 07:20

I'm shocked that you are spending £400 a month for just you and your dog! That's a huge amount.
We are a family of 4 adults and I spend that for all of us😱
You could definitely reduce that bill.
Supermarkets rely heavily on customers not comparing prices and buying the same every week.

ObelixtheGaul · 17/06/2026 18:35

Sorry, but has nobody noticed the hilarious fish puns? This thread is just the plaice for such joviality, even if it is falling a bit flatfish

Their fish fingers are very low on fish content too.
