Do you believe that the universe sends you "signs"

to help you make the right choices?

I've found myself wondering about this. I'm not at all superstitious normally.

Over the last 5 years I've been trying to get a certain type of job on and off. Nothing special or unusual but there seems to be a huge conspiracy to stop it happening. There is the normal stuff like not being successful at interview or the advert being withdrawn but then I've been successful three (yes 3!!!) times and all of them havent panned out for me for different reasons. I applied for a post last week that I was feeing optimistic aboit but found out today that one of the directors has been arrested for embezelment (sp?) so I'll be withdrawing my application from that in case the business cant survive the financial impact.

But now Im wondering if I should just get the hint. 🤣 Maybe someone is telling me, that wouldnt be the right job for me. It would be a big change in direction for me.

Yes, undoubtedly.
We and everything else, material and non material, are the universe, and there is all kinds of unseen weird shit going on all the time, some of which manifests itself as synchronicity, dreams, signs and portents, some of which we can decode.

Bucketwee · 13/11/2025 15:24

Last week, I signed up to a spinning class I wouldn’t usually go to, felt rotten and got into bed. I am not a gym bunny and usually only need the smallest of excuses to miss a class. However at 10 to, I jumped up, got dressed and made it to the gym, as I got there an elderly lady fell backwards down the concrete stairs and would have been seriously injured if I hadn’t been there to catch her, literally caught her in my arms like you’d hold a baby and somehow found the strength to hold us both on the stairs until help came. I truly believe the universe made me go then and there to that class. It felt like I was possessed - I just had to go.

What was the reasons why they didnt pan out?

I'd be looking for something completely different by now.

1 - funding was pulled for the project (they said that had never happened before)

2 - it was a work from home post but sonething unexpected happened which meant they needed someone in the office. Their reasons were sound, it's just a good job I was able to withdraw my resignation

3 - they decided they could amalgamate the post with an existing one. That's poor management/planning on their part.

4 - The t&c changed at the last minute due to a company restructure. The restructure didnt bother me but there was a big difference to the conditions that did. I cant quite remember what now but if they'd been transparent about it I wouldnt have applied.

Plus I've withdrawn from 2 applications - the embelzement one I've mentioned and another one where they didnt tell people until the interview that the post was being re-evaluated and would probably be at a lower wage. Another interview was cancelled due to sickness and then never reorganised.

It's a generic role, nothing niche or specialised. These are all with different companies including government depts.

So no pattern, some are due to poor organisation but others are just life.

I'm fine aboit not going unsuccessful in my application but I have never had this many barriers before!

And who or what is communicating with the OP by inspiring the director of the company to embezzle funds?

I was simply saying that I believe in the general possibility that it happens - not that it was happening in this specific scenario. I've no idea if that's the case at all in the OP's circumstances. From what they have described, I wouldn't conclude that that is likely the case, but I wouldn't completely rule anything out.

And maybe that woman has gone home to kill the remaining kids in her cellar. The universe could be evil and got you to help!

Or why did the universe need to signal you to travel all those miles to help her. When not send her a message to say "watch your step there, it's slippery". That's surely easier.

The universe doesn't send messages.

I do not believe in the universe sending us signs. Load of twaddle! I do however believe in astrology and homoeopathy to a certain extent although not 100%.

Well no one said that my career aspirations made someone a thief. 🤣 It's more that random barriers occur. Whether it's a dodgy director or an accident in the workplace, things happen that mean the jobs never materialise for me.

No, the universe doesn't send you signs. But I do think, when you're tempted to start wondering about signs, it's your subconscious bringing a pattern to your attention and represents an opportunity to have a bit of self reflection. For example, if you're thinking the universe is sending you signs to not keep trying, is that because deep down, you don't want to succeed? And if so, is that because you've actually gone off the idea? Our maybe the thought of success makes you more nervous than you're willing to admit.

I do want to succeed but all of the set backs are making me doubt myself (which I think is a perfectly normal reaction) which in turn is making me wonder if I'm being told to stop (which is where the idea about universe signs comes in).

It's a big change in direction for me. I think I could do it.

ginasevern · 13/11/2025 15:52

I'm not sure about signs from the universe as such, but I do believe in fate to an extent. Either way, it seems you are not destined to get this job OP.

Needaglowup · 13/11/2025 15:53

I totally believe in signs and synchronicity ..

Yeah. I'm kind of thinking it shouldnt be this hard! 🤣

Fifiesta · 13/11/2025 15:54

I wouldn’t say I was normally woo woo. However there have been a few occasions going back over decades, that a sequence of events so random, that you literally couldn’t make it up, either made it possible to do be able to do something unlikely , or alternatively totally impossible to follow well laid plans.
Making me feel pragmatic and that X was just not meant to happen - or alternatively that it was.

Wordsmithery · 13/11/2025 17:58

You have been unlucky with the jobs, OP.
Personally (and perhaps rather unimaginatively) I don't believe in signs from the universe. When people say they'll leave something to fate I usually groan inwardly and wonder why they are so averse to making their own decisions.
The people who are very lucky in life are, in my view, simply people who are canny enough to see a good opportunity when it comes their way and grab it with both hands.

OctaviaC74 · 13/11/2025 18:06

No, because it would mean that the "Universe" picks and chooses who it sends signs/signals too.
Or perhaps it does and many people aren't receptive?

However, i do believe many of us have, at times, an inner voice, ignore it at your peril!!

RuncibleSpoons · 13/11/2025 18:11

No. That’s a bonkers idea. How would it even work? Is the universe everything that exists or a being? You know the answer.

Coincidence or timing can be beneficial, but no higher power has made it happen. 🥴

QuiltPlantCandle · 13/11/2025 18:12

No

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 13/11/2025 18:12

No. There are over eight billion people on this planet. We’re a long way from having an infinite amount of monkeys with typewriters randomly writing the complete works of Shakespeare, but there’s a hell of a lot of opportunities for different scenarios to play out. You’ve been unlucky. Someone else will have been lucky and got the job first time. Someone else will have had a couple of disappointments first and then got the job they wanted. I expect there’s someone else who has had far more disappointments than you. You’re looking for meaning where there is none.

OutandAboutMum1821 · 13/11/2025 14:58

Yes 100%. YANBU.

I’m a HSP, and I can intuitively notice and sense when everything is aligning perfectly for me in a certain direction, things slot into place, things go well, nothing feels forced.

Other times everything and anything is strongly signalling that this is the wrong path.

Trust your gut.

What is an HSP?

Eyesopenwideawake · 13/11/2025 18:15

There's 8bn people on this planet. Does the universe send individual messages to each person or just the chosen few? Why isn't Temu advertising on that channel (yet)?

Brightbluesomething · 13/11/2025 18:57

Not sure I believe that but I do think that at times you get what you need, not necessarily what you want.
I had an experience recently where I went to somewhere I’d never usually be free to go to at that time and had a bit of a lightbulb moment which spurred me into action. I’d been procrastinating for a while and it was the kick up the backside I needed.
Was that a sign from the universe? Or a coincidence? Or was I just ready to do that thing? Who knows.
Sometimes I think we can look into things too deeply and search for answers that aren’t there.

Duechristmas · 13/11/2025 19:12

Yes, we recently had flights cancelled and I didn't rearrange them. We changed our plans completely but I felt better for it.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 13/11/2025 19:13

I don't believe in any of that whoo shite. BUT having said that, I've had loads of signs, that I've completely ignored and later wished I hadn't. I honestly think I'm a little bit psychic but because none of my family believed in it, I don't either and just ignore it.

youegg · 13/11/2025 19:34

Needaglowup · 13/11/2025 15:53

I totally believe in signs and synchronicity ..

Who is sending the signs?
What if you don’t get a sign? Is it because the universe hates you or doesn’t care?
Why are the signs so vague? Why not a billboard that says ‘Jane take the job’ if they have the power to send signs?
Per a posters experience before of a persons surname appearing on tv ads etc how are they managing to affect ad agency strategies (‘ remember we have to name this person John Campbell and say it in the ad… I don’t know why’) and tv scheduling?
Does everyone in the world get signs? Is it like a universal mail merge?
How do they decide? Per previous posters sign to save an old woman on the stairs.
“Right Joan falls down the stairs today Keith so who should we send to save her? Harriet in Tenby needs to go to a spin class nearby so we should send her”
“But it’s miles away Lesley, and she’s usually lazy so won’t go, send that guy who’s always pumping iron at the gym and there’s less risk of both getting injured”
”Nah send Harriet and use that force thing you have”.

So many questions.

Dontgive · 13/11/2025 21:21

Yes I believe that the universe helps you and gives you signs . I fell pregnant then sadly had a miscarriage but it really did save me making a huge mistake, I was going to move my partner in but turns out hes a narcissistic I just didn't want to see it soon after he finished with me blaming that he coultrust me and going on about cheating on him that I never did 5week after id had miscarriage hes already yachting to other women and dating offered me no support and even implied that id had a termination just to give that extra dig at me b4 he dumped me and we are both in 40s so hes no 20 year old and wasn't a casual fling. But looking back on it I know I am best out of his life as , as my friend said I was confident and happy and now aswell of myself having him pick at my confident for a year.
