Off topic, but looking at the title I thought
"Anyone secretly hoping your neighbours will put up ... their house for sale?" 😄

Now that would be a thread 😁

Yes but I don't feel at the stage where I want to go rooting them out either! Very nearly!

Seawolves · 12/11/2025 18:28

I drove past a house in Oct that had a their lights and tree up outside, their car had tinsel around the roof rails, they always go early and it always makes me smile. This year I will be joining the early brigade as my little one is palliative and we have been warned that this might well be his last Christmas. If others want to judge our lights and decorations as naff or whatever then they can jog on, they have no way of knowing why we've gone early so can keep their judgements to themselves.

pippapipps · 12/11/2025 18:29

My next door neighbours put the tree and door wreath up on 1st November

RuncibleSpoons · 12/11/2025 18:31

No! We live in an utterly MC village. No-one goes early!

Rozendantz · 12/11/2025 18:32

Dear Lord no! I've only just persuaded my neighbour to throw her bloody Christmas tree out from last year! It's been outside her sodding house for 10 months... I sincerely hope she's not planning her decorations any time soon!

WhatAKnob47 · 12/11/2025 18:32

I'm doing pursue next week. Hopefully, the kids will be back at school by then. The house os full of the lurgy at the moment.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 12/11/2025 18:33

Mine put them up on 6th Nov
I fuckingvhate it

It's not bloody Christmas!!!

Openmouthinsertfood · 12/11/2025 18:33

Much love to you @Seawolves I hope you all manage to enjoy a lovely Christmas all together. I'm so sorry what you are facing. 💕

I have had my tree and decorations up since September. I have all but two presents wrapped and under the tree. I have my Chriistmas magazines and fiction books, watch the Christmas shows on QVC, etc. I haven't put the outside lights up yet as I didn't want the neighbours thinking I'm nuts. 😂

calmag · 12/11/2025 18:41

For me it isn't christmas yet, I'll put mine up a week or two into december but if you want to put yours up now OP do it! Maybe your neighbours are wishing you would so they can join in?

XWKD · 12/11/2025 18:45

You do you, as they say on the interwebz. I always leave it to the last minute.

Topseyt123 · 12/11/2025 18:46

God no! Far too early for me.

I put my fibroptic Christmas tree up about a week before Christmas and will usually take it down on New Year's Day.

Bearbookagainandagain · 12/11/2025 18:46

My 3 yo definitely does 😂
He's asking if it's "Christmas yet" every day at pick up.

scalt · 12/11/2025 18:47

Why do you care about whether the neighbours have theirs up or not?

In my book, first day of Christmas is 25th December. But I put my decorations up early in Advent.

HornyHornersPinger · 12/11/2025 18:53

No, because 2 of my neighbour's on either side did it 1st November. Twinkly lights, inflatables, the lot. Bastards.

stargirl1701 · 12/11/2025 18:53

Dear God, no. It was only Armistice Day yesterday!

Nannyfannybanny · 16/11/2025 08:20

I got a Christmas card yesterday!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/11/2025 08:35

A small potted tree with lights will go outside the front door on 1st December, nothing else until around the 15th. Neighbours will be similarly ‘restrained’.

However I like seeing other people’s outside lights, trees in their front windows, etc. any time from about now. They cheer up the gloomy darkness.

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/11/2025 08:42

I know in the street who will be the first, it’s the same every year. Will be interesting to see how batshit they go this year.

I guess my new neighbour could beat them to it. No idea who they are though, they moved in a couple of weeks ago and I haven’t seen them.

JacknDiane · 16/11/2025 08:45

Ach just go for it @mmsnet

I was a bit "Oh that's ridiculous" too, until I read on here that some people are putting up the decorations early as it helps with their mental health, and cheers them up a bit.

So I'm all for it now. The world is gloomy enough right now, if a bit of twinkly lights is good for your soul, who is mean enough to chastise you?

ConnieHeart · 16/11/2025 08:46

I couldn't give a shit when my neighbours put theirs up. Ours are going up in 3 weeks & not before

NarnianQueen · 16/11/2025 08:47

Some of my neighbours put up twinkly lights at Halloween and just left them up, which is pretty genius 🤩

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 16/11/2025 08:48

Seawolves I wish you a lovely early Christmas with your wee one. And strength to face what is to come

Newsenmum · 16/11/2025 08:49

Be the first! Maybe they’re waiting for someone too.
