Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

Yes but I'm autistic. I find it quite overwhelming to shower/bath and do my hair at the same time. I don't bath/shower everyday (I do have a flannel wash to freshen up in the mornings) so will bath/shower on different days to the days I do my hair. As I've got older my hair only needs doing once a week so that helps. I have a full bath shower 3/4 times a week during winter but more during summer. I don't exercise as much as I should but would always bath/shower after exercise. I'm probably grim by some MN standards!

Right. Apart from the fact that you have disgraceful manners, have you considered why some people don't shower every day?

Are people with disabilities that prevent them from showering easily - or at all - disgusting? Should they be ashamed?

Really?

mamagogo1 · 12/11/2025 16:02

every morning, doesn’t everyone?

SanFairyAnnie · 12/11/2025 16:02

Shower every morning but face cleansed wth facial wash at basin first. Bath at weekends when I've more time. Hair washed about 4/5 days as it's very dry

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 12/11/2025 16:03

I shower and bath every other day. Shower one day, bath the next day, so on and so on. I could do it every day but my hair would get so greasy so quickly. If my dermatology was different, I'd do it every day. The fresh and clean feeling is like no other. But... grease 😫

mswales · 12/11/2025 16:04

I don’t think showering every day is always necessary if you’re not getting sweaty/dirty. I often go days without showering though not by choice, just due to being a solo parent - can’t leave both kids unsupervised in the morning and once they are both finally asleep I just want to crash out and watch or read something, then it gets too late to shower without missing out on crucial sleep, and I’m just so exhausted. I do a lot of quick armpit and waist-down washing without a full shower.

lostintranslation148 · 12/11/2025 16:04

I'm like you OP, don't need to be showering every 5 minutes. It's really drying in our hard water and if I was in the shower all the time even if I didn't wash my hair it would be horribly frizzy from the humidity.

I couldn't care less if people think it's dirty and gross, it saves money, is much better for the environment and no one would know unless I told them. I do have a bath rather than a shower though because I like a good soak and don't feel clean just standing under a spray of water for 2 minutes.

I don't understand how people feel clean from showering even if they do it every 5 minutes. Maybe that's why they feel they need to?

Oh l love the feeling after a shower.. all fresh and clean.. .. been in bed all night.. probably sweated ...l couldn't put clean clothes on if l didn't have a clean body.. can take as little as a few minutes.. short hair here so l wash my hair too. I have a wet room so it's usually a sit down shower.. have to wash off all those over night yucky skin cells. If you don't shower every day what do you do about deodorant? You can't put that on top of yesterday's?

Why not 🤷🏻‍♀️yes I wear deodorant daily, is that bad?

Nope, have you read the thread? There are all kind of reasons for not doing so, which people have shared.

FartyAnimal · 12/11/2025 16:05

I have a very quick (2min) shower every day, I but hair washing is a ballsache and I do it every
5 days or so.

Tammygirl12 · 12/11/2025 16:05

Shower every day. Hair maybe 3 times a week. Get it cut shorter is the solution

CasperGutman · 12/11/2025 16:05

In this household we all shower every other day, or after exercise or work that gets us notably sweaty or dirty. If all I've done all day is sit at my desk then I won't necessarily shower. It probably works out as about 5 showers a week on average.

Saurus72 · 12/11/2025 16:06

I shower every single day even if I’m ill or am staying home alone. I can’t imagine ever doing differently, like others have said I like feeling fresh. Unwashed people have a smell - sorry but it’s true. Nothing you can cover up with perfume, it’s unmistakably ‘stale’.

Yogagrandmum · 12/11/2025 16:06

I hate cleaning my teeth, though am obsessed with my teeth.

RandomTyping · 12/11/2025 16:06

I skip the odd day if I haven't been doing much. But pretty much daily and I'd never skip consecutive days. Going a full week is pretty grim.

AllTheChaos · 12/11/2025 16:07

I wish I could have a shower every day. I have a shower over the bath but can no longer manage to clamber in so am stuck with washing at the sink. I will be taking out a loan at some point to get a walk in shower put in. I found that things that helped (am ND and do have some issues) included putting the heat on first so no warm water / cold air ick, having a heated towel rail to warm clothes and towel, having a radiator in the bathroom (even if just a plug in one on a lead from the hallway), having a big enough bathroom to not feel hemmed in etc.

Doesn't the armpit and waist-down washing take just as long as a quick shower?

I know that if this was me, I would be concerned about my mental health.

Why?

Anything over 2 days as an adult is smelly, only once a week isn't good, do you not feel like you're smelly.

I love showering. I wash my hair everyday just because I like to shower I find it very relaxing… and also my hair just feels like it’s greasy if I don’t.

You have no way of knowing how many of the non-smelly people you meet have daily showers. Many may shower on alternate days, for example. Yes, if a person doesn't shower for long enough they'll smell. But exactly how long that takes will vary between individuals, activities, temperature, etc.

ETA: but yes, going a week without a shower is a bit much!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/11/2025 16:09

Just wondering, do you find transitions - interrupting what you're doing, even it's sitting down watching TV, that kind of thing - irritating?

Stopping to shower and wash hair could be something you dislike because it's disturbing to get up, get undressed, put the clothes in the wash, run the shower, try to get the right temperature, get in, get washed, do hair, rinse hair, condition hair, turn the now comfortable hot water off and get cold, get a towel that then feels wet and you feel cold, go and put on fresh clothes/nightclothes, etc, etc.

QuiltPlantCandle · 12/11/2025 16:09

Dontfeelchristmassyyet · 12/11/2025 16:07

Why?

Neglecting your personal hygiene can be a sign of depression. This is someone who used to be happy to shower every day and now only showers twice a week. That's a big change.
