Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

For many reasons if you go back and read the 26 pages
repeat my one again I have skin conditions that require to be covered in cream and let soak on when I come out. sometimes a shower is sore on my skin. both doctor and dermatologist advise not showering or bathing every day
I prefer a bath as I have stuff in it that sooths my skin
I wish my hair once a week

I'm not being specific to showering, I'm being specific to being clean - by whatever means does that.

Sparkles62 · 16/11/2025 00:06

I'm with you, hate showers, haven't got a bath, have a shower few times a week and wash hair, but not every day. Have a good wash morning and evening. Don't get sweaty.

BeanQuisine · 16/11/2025 02:50

Don't mind showering but I do dislike washing my hair because it's so long these days, and so much bother not just to wash but to dry, brush and arrange etc.

Keep daring myself to have it seriously shortened but I keep postponing it.

Beachtastic · 16/11/2025 09:15

Not everyone smells if they don't wash all the time, I wouldn't worry about that.

If you want to entice yourself into more regular showering, though, the trick is to make it a ritual that you enjoy.

Get a really nice shower gel and use a shower puff for lots of lather. Also a lovely body lotion for afterwards. Dove products are really great if you don't want to spend a fortune!

you specifically showering every day. just because they are not showering every day doesn't mean they are not clean.

Babybaby2025 · 16/11/2025 10:55

I shower everyday because I love a shower, I always look forward to it. But I don't think a shower daily is essential. I rarely feel sweaty/smelly/unclean when I go to shower, I reckon it would take me 2-3 days to feel that way.

My three young children stink after a day or two without a wash and they don’t sweat. There’s no way a grown adult doesn’t stink after not washing a day!

I’d think that would necessitate a doctor visit if after one day of not washing you’re ‘stinking’. You might have a hormonal issue or something. It’s honestly not normal

Specialcrumpets · 16/11/2025 11:53

oggie679 · 15/11/2025 23:52

We've always needed to shower regularly - we just didn't have the services, facilities or infrastructure and the culture was different! That's like saying we never showered when we were cavemen so why do we now, have we got dirtier? It's called it evolution, progress, information, science, development - humans progress?!

But the science doesn’t say you need to shower everyday. In fact, it says the opposite. So how do you reconcile that?

Please share the science that says people should not shower every day.

Lol at the stinkers saying people who deem it necessary to shower every day need to see the doctor because they have a 'being smelly' problem.

Of course, happy to help. This is from Harvard Medical Publishing. It highlights showering everyday as being not only bad for your skin but also for your immune system and overall health.

I agree. My son does stink after less than a day but we think he has hyperhidrosis

The first article is a puff piece by a doctor on the Harvard men's health page. There's zero science or research findings. The second is a justification of being a stinker by some rank bloke who's averse to showering.

Really interesting articles, thank you! I shower every day because I enjoy it, but don’t think it is absolutely essential in order not to smell. I think I might cut down on showering a bit and just do pits bits and feet some days.

Not sure you know what a puff piece means but anyway, there’s a ton of stuff out there, all saying the same thing. Showering every 2-3 days is fine, and potentially even better for you.

But also, it seems pointless to debate this with you as seem REALLY ANGRY about people who don’t shower every day, calling them all sorts of names. So, I’d guess there’s something else going on and this is more of a you problem.

It can't be that bad for your skin when hands are washed 20 times a day, the advice for keeping good skin, is daily facial cleansing and moisturising, so why is it bad for the rest of your body.
Human beings sweat, armpit and vulva sweat has a strong aroma, left for 24 hours increases the smell, some people don't mind feeling it on their skin, others like feeling fresh.

Lots of people get very dry hands - especially those that have to wash them more often!

Cleansing isn’t the same as washing. It’s far gentler on the skin.

edited to add - unless it’s been super hot or I’ve got super sweaty, my armpits and vulva genuinely do not smell, even after 3 days. We’re all different.

No one is saying you shouldn’t wash at all, but that standing under running water cleaning yourself all over every day is not really necessary, and that a targeted wash of pits, bits and feet some days is sufficient.

I sweat in the winter from wearing a lot of layers.
I don't sweat in the summer, light clothing.
Cleansing your face is no different to a 3 minute shower.

I showered yesterday. I wore two pairs of pyjamas last night, I smell. Jumping in for a quick one soon.

Do you mean you smell in the sense you smell something if you stick your nose in your armpit, or that you smell enough for other people to notice?

ActYourAge · 16/11/2025 13:16

I shower every day, and wash my hair on 5 of those days. I think anyone who doesn't shower every day is scruffy

Comefromaway · 16/11/2025 13:18

Letting water run over your body does not make you any cleaner than using soap & a wet flannel.

bigboykitty · 16/11/2025 13:24

@SpecialCrumpets I'm not angry, but anyway. It's entirely up to individuals how often they wash or shower. The thing I have a problem with is people insisting they don't smell. I've had to deal with this quite a bit in real life and people are a bit delusional about it. I know you shared the articles in good faith, but they are not scientific evidence that daily showering or bathing is bad for you.

MidnightMeltdown · 16/11/2025 13:35

I don’t mind showering, but I don’t like to wash my hair everyday. Mainly because it’s long and thick and takes a good hour to dry and style. Even if I left it to dry naturally it would take at least a couple of hours to dry. If I had thin hair that dried within 30 minutes then I wouldn’t mind.

Nose to armpit, sniff down pj top.
Not outwardly. I think.
