Toilet paper! How much will last you a month?

I do a big shop at the beginning of the month. This includes what toilet paper is think we will need.
It's the 11th so about half way through the month.
I've been buying ever increasing amounts of toilet paper.
Last month 31st October I bought 2×24 rolls. We have 3 toilets. I downstairs. An ensuite and a bathroom. Neither me or dh go into the bathroom.

It is solely used by 2 teenagers dds.
They have 2 rolls out of 24 left!!
I have about 16
WTF are they doing with it?? Eating it??
Ffs
Ainbu to think 2 people can use 24 toilet rolls or less in 1 month?
Aibu they are teenagers and use more?

2 x 9 roll packs. Four adults.

shellyleppard · 11/11/2025 23:14

I have two teenagers. When they are home (half term/summer holidays) the toilet roll consumption definitely increases!!
I buy a big box (48 rolls) of bamboo stuff. It usually lasts about 3 months.....

Boxingshibes · 11/11/2025 23:16

See im not going mad, are they drying in the stuff rather than towels? I'm at a loss.
Is it a girl thing?

I use loads because I have heavy periods and a sensitive bladder

shellyleppard · 11/11/2025 23:19

@Boxingshibes my eldest one is autistic and he uses a LOT! He's getting very good at unlocking the toilet now though....🤔 House rule....you block it you unblock it!

TroyTheTough · 11/11/2025 23:21

Heavens, we buy a pack of 9 every 6 weeks or so. 3.5 adults.

Boxingshibes · 11/11/2025 23:21

@shellyleppard ironically it not the autistic one who seems to use it all.

I put a fresh one in both bathrooms when I clean them weekly and it lasts the week.

Teenage DD's, I never had access to cotton pads as a teenager, so used loo roll for lots of cosmetic purposes.

shellyleppard · 11/11/2025 23:25

@Boxingshibes have a look at the bamboo boxes online. It lasts for ages and they deliver to your door....no lugging endless packs home x

Eareye · 11/11/2025 23:27

Just me and husband about 6-8 rolls a month .Not that I count!

TeaRoseTallulah · 11/11/2025 23:28

Teenage boys using lots of toilet paper,I can hazard a good guess at what they're using it for! Cheaper than boxes of tissues.

OSTMusTisNT · 11/11/2025 23:28

I buy a pack of Andrex extra large rolls and one roll lasts DH about a week. That's with me WFH!

(Buy super cheap scratchy stuff for the kids bathroom 🙃.)

bridgetreilly · 11/11/2025 23:30

One per person per week is a good rule of thumb. They seem to be using one a day each. That is not normal.

GarlicHound · 11/11/2025 23:33

One a day. I live alone. I have 'ishoos' - and use TP for everything. Zero expenditure on tissues. My kitchen rolls last ages because the TP mops up little spills. I get a 24-pack delivered every three weeks.

OneKhakiFish · 11/11/2025 23:33

About 5 rolls a month, they're obviously ysing it for other things

milabeee · 12/11/2025 00:06

I only use four rolls if that a month. Me and a small child at home. We use who gives a crap tp.

Hortesne · 12/11/2025 00:11

One roll a year. Anything more is sinfully extravagant.

Georgiepud · 12/11/2025 00:16

One every other day generally.
However I'm sure teenage daughter gets bored on the loo and just folds the paper over and over again before tearing it off.

Starconundrum · 12/11/2025 00:17

I wondered about this during the great toilet paper drought during COVID.

About one roll a week for two people. Both menstruating women.

Is also used for sniffles. A bad case of sniffles can add an extra roll.

I can understand the need for more with IBS issues, but I've never understood how people can use so much otherwise. Do they make a cushion to wipe their derrière? Doesn't that make a bit of a mess?

Nose bleeds?

No judgement, I'm just weirdly interested as it's a topic rarely discussed.

Oh ok. This does make sense.

aneelli · 12/11/2025 00:22

Periods cause higher usage, but 22 rolls in 11 days seems far too excessive, my family and I get through about 22 in a month, some months all 24 gets used but not all months.
I reckon they are using toilet paper to dry instead of towel, could they also be using it to clean

Like mindlessly winding the wool for knitting or crochet. I can see this happening.

TheLivelyRose · 12/11/2025 00:26

I live alone at the moment. I use about one a week. Maybe slightly more if I have my period.

At that rate, your teenage girls are using about one a day, which is far too much. They're old enough. So I'd ask them, what on earth are you doing with it.

Any time I've needed to do this it leaves bits of toilet paper though. It starts to break apart.

It doesn't seem very efficient.

Magpie50 · 12/11/2025 00:32

I probably buy a 9 pack every 6mths or so.
TBF though I do use washable wipes so don't get through much (I live alone and only use the wipes fòr wees so it's not that disgusting!).
Although when younger I used to wind the paper round and round my hand to form a nice comfy pad!😁
