Toilet paper! How much will last you a month?

Boxingshibes · 11/11/2025 23:12

I do a big shop at the beginning of the month. This includes what toilet paper is think we will need.
It's the 11th so about half way through the month.
I've been buying ever increasing amounts of toilet paper.
Last month 31st October I bought 2×24 rolls. We have 3 toilets. I downstairs. An ensuite and a bathroom. Neither me or dh go into the bathroom.

It is solely used by 2 teenagers dds.
They have 2 rolls out of 24 left!!
I have about 16
WTF are they doing with it?? Eating it??
Ffs
Ainbu to think 2 people can use 24 toilet rolls or less in 1 month?
Aibu they are teenagers and use more?

We get through 1-2 rolls a day. Me and two teen/early twenties DDs. I buy the Little Duck Brand from Farm Foods as I can get 6 x 18 roll packs for £20. The quality is fine. I notice when DD2 is not around our bog roll consumption takes a serious dive…

Arlanymor · 12/11/2025 00:37

My dad uses lots and I think I have inherited this from him! I live alone but I probably get through about nine a month. I work from home (mainly) and am enjoying the delights of perimenopause, so a few flood days.

HeavyOnMyHeart · 12/11/2025 00:39

OK this entire post has me baffled. How can people use four a month or similar?? Me and one DC use pretty much one a day between the two of us!! Do people just not poop often or something? I'm genuinely so surprised at people using so little!

Boxingshibes · 12/11/2025 00:39

I think it is winding it around hands. They have a whole chest of drawers in bathroom of sanpro
1 uses period pants as well and the other only gets theirs about every 4/5 months ( v tiny)
I going with they are either eating it or drying themselves with it!

I work. Go to the office. Work from home about once a week. Oh, weekendsI tend to go out and also go to the gym. I'm not at home all the time to be using all that toilet paper. I couldn't go through one a day.I don't see how. How on earth would you need one roll for a shit

hattie43 · 12/11/2025 06:29

I use loads , probs 24 a month on my own , toilet , wiping spills from dogs , make up if run out of cotton wool , colds , it just goes

What on earth do you do with it?

Transcript of current speech from teaching pre school child:
After each toilet use, tear off two squares, fold them over. Wipe. Repeat as required. Generally three times is sufficient for most things. If it’s extra sticky then keep going until clean. If it’s that sticky, then your tummy isn’t quite right.

For average person: About three hours between wees, and a bowel movement a day. Thats 30 sheets a day. 200 sheets on a standard roll. One roll should last a person about a week.

Statsquestion1 · 12/11/2025 06:47

2 adults and 2dc (one of which is a12yr old DD). I bought 24 on 25oct and we have 10 left. We have 2 en-suites (one for us and one for dd), main bathroom and downstairs loo.

Hercisback1 · 12/11/2025 06:53

How are you using so much?

Family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 primary kids. We use 12 every 2 months.

One per day on what? How often do you poo? You need 10 sheets max for a poo unless it's a particularly bad one.

2 squares, folded, to wipe poo?

Yes so four layers, why do you need more? I'd strive to get more between the cheeks.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 12/11/2025 07:05

I get the Who Gives a Crap boxes, and one box lasts me (and 2 teen DSes) nearly 6 months - ie I generally have to order just before the scheduled order.

BUT, the rolls are long. When I bought supermarket toilet roll we went through way more rolls. (and as an aside, they're a lot less fuzzy, so there's less dust and fluff in the bathrooms now that I've switched - I very much prefer it)

So it's hard to respond - what are you buying? The quilted Aloe Vera stuff, the middle of the road, double rolls, the cheapy? They all last vastly different amounts of time anyway.

Having said that, I was told off when I was a teen for using too much toilet paper all the time.. I don't like the idea of wee soaking through to my hands so I'd use a wad.

annoyingfeet · 12/11/2025 07:12

Live alone. A loo roll lasts about a week, a day less when WFH.

Always buy 24 rolls as more economical than 9

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · 12/11/2025 07:37

I hear you. It was something that shocked me when I moved in with my partner. When I lived alone, a 4-pack would last me at least 6 weeks. I often joke to my other half that she eats the stuff as we go through a 12-pack in a little over a fortnight.

muddyford · 12/11/2025 07:41

I buy the double length rolls in either Tesco or Sainsbury's. One roll lasts me around a week or a bit longer. But I have around three bowel sessions a day, so...

Timemyluckchanged · 12/11/2025 07:44

3 adults 1 teen here and we use 24 rolls a month. We have a bamboo roll subscription (48 every 2 months) and it’s been a revelation. It seemed expensive at first but in fact it lasts longer than the stuff from the supermarket, leaves so much less dust in the bathrooms and seems to be kinder to my menopausal nether regions.

About two rolls a week just me

Yes….

Tillygan60 · 12/11/2025 07:49

Just buy the cheaper stuff for them....

mamagogo1 · 12/11/2025 07:51

I buy a 24 pack every 5 weeks or so for 2 people, I think that’s a lot! Our consumption is way up since dh retired so I know exactly who uses lots!

ravenclaworslytherin · 12/11/2025 07:55

One box of 48 bamboo rolls ever 4 months for a family of 5. No teenagers. I do have a 5 year old son who thinks you need to use a whole roll at a time and a 3 year old daughter who wants to be an andrex puppy and trails it round the house though

flirtygirl · 12/11/2025 08:01

We use 16-24 per week, the higher amount is on period weeks, we are 3 females. 1 has ibs.

My nephew aged 30 uses 1.5 a day, causes my mum to talk about it every time I see her.

So we use 16 per week for 3 people and he uses 10-11 per week for 1 person, I can see her point now.

LLJETO · 12/11/2025 08:06

We use just under a (well, 3/4 of one) double roll a day. 3 of us in the house but I’m in all day and have an overactive bladder and ibs!

Buscobel · 12/11/2025 12:13

I think about 4 a week, but there’s only two of us. The rolls are smaller and thinner than they were though, so probably more some weeks. I like to have a spare pack in the house.
