My son has runaway

My son has runaway from home. We had an argument this morning because he didn't want to go to school and he stormed out.

He is 10 (almost 11). The school called me and told me he hadn't arrived. I've tried calling and texting him but had no reply. I've called the police and they are out searching for him. His Dad and sister are currently driving round the area (and friends houses etc) in the hope of spotting him. I'm going out of my mind with worry 😭 he's never done this before.

@Wario54

I'm very sorry to hear that your child is missing. It is a very frightening time. The police are able to geolocate mobile phones - have they done this with your son's yet? Do you have a support officer with you?

The following link explains UK police procedure and what you can do when someone goes missing:

https://www.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/missing-person/missing-persons/what-to-do-when-someone-goes-missing/

My DC (similar age, has ALN) ran away briefly and put himself at risk earlier this year - it was very frightening, but in our case DH managed to find him before I called the police.

Wishing you lots of strength and that you get your boy back as soon as possible.

@Wario54 I have been exactly where you are except it was after school when he ran off. I feel for you, I was absolutely frantic, the police weren’t much use, only sent one officer and we didn’t see any that seemed to be on patrol searching.

My son turned up shaken but fine. He had walked miles and eventually got scared and was crying in the street, luckily a female saw him outside her house and drove him to the local school. He could only remember the name of the pub a family member ran so the head called the pub and my family member then contacted us, we flew over there.

Once everything had calmed down we talked through where he had been, it was all familiar places to him. A couple of supermarkets, the library and my office. That’s where I would start in your position.

I posted in the class WhatsApp so there was lots of families looking for him and it actually made him feel better after because he thought that people cared-part of his issues was friends etc.

Afterwards we had lots of conversations-starting with don’t get into cars with strangers!

Just sharing this to try and keep your mind positive because I honestly know how you’re feeling. Please message me if you need a shoulder.
