To wish my mother would stop buying me a fridge magnet every time she goes on holiday?

The latest one too add to my collection is from China! I hate them. I don't want magnets all over my fridge and least of all ones from places I've never even been to!

you have to tell her

my mother now brings me exciting foreign coffees, which at least get used up rather than cluttering the house

Carmenere · 07/06/2008 11:01

I always bring home chilli sauces, much better than fridge magnets

FrannyandZucchini · 07/06/2008 11:02

just ditch them
if people buy me stuff I don't like I don't feel a duty to display them / keep them
my house would be full of crap otherwise

bluefox · 07/06/2008 11:03

YANBU they mark the fridge doors and make cleaning a PITA. Yes - tell her - it has to be done!

TREBUCHET · 07/06/2008 11:03

She probably thinks you like them, a memento, better than a postcard. Is it hurting you fgs? I'm very happy for you that this is all you have to complain about.

Purplepillow · 07/06/2008 11:04

You could always offer them to mners

bluefox · 07/06/2008 11:05

It might be hard to just ditch them - maybe mum checks the fridge door when she visits to see if they are on display.

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 11:05

Hmm, she's not the sort of person you tell you don't like something! she will kick off! I'll have to have a little pile ready to throw at the fridge when she comes round!

Sorry TREBUCHET, am I not allowed to have a trival moment in my llfe?

bluefox · 07/06/2008 11:07

Tell her the fridge door is now full - try asking for the foreign coffees - seems a good idea.

eidsvold · 07/06/2008 11:08

i collected them as a reminder of places I had been - terrible memory. But now I am happy as the dds sit there/dd3 has stood there for ages playing with them, moving them from front to side, taking them off and putting them on. Useful to keep them occupied. I wouldn't buy them for anyone else though.

somersetmum · 07/06/2008 11:09

Get an integrated fridge

scorpio1 · 07/06/2008 11:09

ooh can i have them? my mum & dad always het me one and i have them from all over. i dont have a china one though....

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 11:11

There's only one draw back with that idea Bluefox, I've got a bloody american fridge/freezer being delivered next week! She'll see it as green light to get even more!

My mum has alzehiamers.

I wish she could buy me a magnet from places she is visiting.

Maybe instaed of trivilising you should be grateful to have a mother who is heathly and thinks of you when she is away.

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 11:16

You know what Scorpio?, yes you can! I'll catch up with you in the bar, another day and we'll sort it.

OP posts:
bubblerock · 07/06/2008 11:17

Can you put them somewhere else? Radiator in play room?

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 11:17

Jeez, lighten up people. My life ain't a bed of roses either. Its Saturday morning, its the weekend, the sun is out - smile fgs.

piratecat · 07/06/2008 11:18

buy your dc's a magnetic board, and put them in their room, saying they love them so much.

constancereader · 07/06/2008 11:20

Good god, is no one allowed to HAVE minor irritations on mumsnet anymore??

I would hate it too MML.

scorpio1 · 07/06/2008 11:21

i was only joking but if you dont mind i would like them

(Yay!!!)

VacheFolle · 07/06/2008 11:25

Ooh I love fridge magnets from holidays, but it has to be my holiday not someone else's IFYSWIM..god I'm pathetic

piratecat · 07/06/2008 11:27

how many have you got? is she away alot?

I have two fridge magnets from places i have been, BUT going to spain next week so might indulge!!!

Carmenere · 07/06/2008 11:28

Yeah ffs Mo my mums mother died and her mother died and her mother died, how do you think they feel about the emotional abuse you are putting your mother through by not loving her fridge magnets?

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 11:32

No problem Scorpio. Kitchen is in peices atm, but I'll sort out some, when I get a chance.

That's the thing ConstanceReader! I know we are all thinking of OJ partiicularly today, but no one feels more for those little girls today than me. My dad died when I was 11 on Christmas Eve! I would never complain if someone was moaning about their dad on here. Equally, I don't get arsey about people moaning about their kids always fighting, because I've only got one and have no chance of others, because I had 2 ectopics and was very close to death! Life sucks, but fgs, put a smile on your face at the front door, is my motto!

My mother is a PITA, sorry if that offends some people, but hey, nobodies perfect.

Here endth the lesson!
