To wish my mother would stop buying me a fridge magnet every time she goes on holiday?

The latest one too add to my collection is from China! I hate them. I don't want magnets all over my fridge and least of all ones from places I've never even been to!

minor irritation or just desperate to start a thread?

joash · 07/06/2008 11:35

fridge magnets - tacky, get rid.
Like the idea of the magnetic board for the kids though

learningallthetime · 07/06/2008 11:36

How did a topic about fridge magnets turn into a "whose suffered more" debate?

I love fridge magnets - send 'em to me!

learningallthetime · 07/06/2008 11:39

I didn't realise I was starting a competition. I would have added a lot more, damm!

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 11:40

At least you have a fridge and a house to put it in
I live in a barrel
Its plastic
I can't even attach the magnets to it as a jolly accessory

FFS some people don't know they're born

learningallthetime · 07/06/2008 11:47

FrannyandZucchini · 07/06/2008 11:48

come on learning don't give up so easily

learningallthetime · 07/06/2008 11:49

I can't compete with the barrel Franny, its plastic, I stand no chance

FrannyandZucchini · 07/06/2008 11:50

come on
we can cook something up
perhaps you have a lifelong allergy to magnets and can't even go near them
say they make your legs fall off

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 11:52

Oh Sagacious! That's so sad. I do realise that I'm very lucky and I thank my lucky stars everyday, that my wine is chilled! I've got a spare plastic water butt, if you're interested and some drain pipes. You could add an extension. Bit like one of those hamster houses!

I think, since we're having a new kitchen fitted, I will put them all someone 'safe' and won't be able to find them for a long time!

legs .. I should be so lucky Franny!

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 07/06/2008 12:00

The glue on those magnets is not what it used to be.........it dries out and the magnets go tumbling to the floor at an alarming rate.

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2008 12:03

Genius Bree! You are star of the day! Of couse the other option is that my new swanky fridge is coated in something very 21st century and magnets don't stick!

my mil does this too! I put them on the washing machine and boiler - neither of which are visible!!

Kbear · 07/06/2008 18:36

So you won't want the giant super-sized Walt Disney World magnet I bought SPECIALLY for your new American fridge then.

Ungrateful, that's what you are. You need to count your blessings woman. You're lucky you have a fridge with a door that's magnetic, mine's wooden so I bought the giant super-sized Walt Disney World magnet for YOU my dearest pal.

ChippyMinton · 07/06/2008 19:13

Quick, change the spec for your new kitchen and get yourself a built in fridge.
DH has hundreds of the things, I feel your pain

rascal1979 · 08/06/2008 20:15

I can sympathise my MIL buys many lovely presents but also insists on buying tat. So far has bought my 5mth old a chick that cheeps when you put on on your hand ( despite DD hand being far too small for said chick to work and it being for children aged 3yrs +) and a ball filled with glittery liquid for children aged 8yrs and over! and on a recent holiday she bought her a tacky snow globe.

DH and I also have numerous gifts from her that we keep under the stairs for 6mths or so before giving to a local charity shop. However I suspect DD gifts may be harder to get rid of especially once she is a toddler - don't all toddlers/small children just adore tat!

I wish I had the guts to tell her to save her cash and juat stop buying but I don't
