Felt sick over customers wearing disposable gloves when shopping

Do they not understand that this is worse for germ cross contamination than bare hands? Doctors, nurses, anaesthetists, dentists, vets etc change their gloves with every patient or more often if a messy job.

Shoppers with disposable gloves touch hundreds of stuff, face, money, cards etc.

This particular couple I saw wearing disposable gloves which had holes in the knuckles. This is caused by sweat breaking down the material in the DG. Then as they left the shop, they took off their gloves with their teeth and popped them into their coat pockets. That made me feel sick

I do wish someone would tell them that their protection is rubbish. I would love to see their faces on showing the results of Petri dishes with their gloves being swabbed v hands washed 15 mins earlier.

Use your words then…
if you feel so strongly then you should have said something instead of the faux outrage on here!

The last time I saw people wearing gloves in a supermarket was Covid. I'm guessing the people doing it have health anxiety. DH's Nana does actually wear a facemask and gloves when she shops (once in a blue moon - I think she's been 5 times since 2019), she's basically a shut in and has barely left the house since Covid despite having no health conditions and having all the jabs. She is hugely anxious at the best of times and Covid gave her reason to shut herself away and gave her the perfect excuse to shut down all attempts at getting her out. Every time she now leaves the house to go anywhere crowded (with her facemask and gloves) she ends up poorly, which leads her to shutting herself in more.

They may be Immune suppressed, but immune suppressed people generally know to wash their hands after going to the supermarket and would probably have better glove hygiene.

I couldn't get wound up about it. I would just assume they were greatly anxious and know that without proper hand washing and using new gloves for every shop the gloves are doing nothing but making the person wearing them feel better - like security theatre.

I've never seen anyone wearing gloves in a supermarket. How odd

During COVID I think every other person I saw in the supermarket were sporting a pair of bright yellow marigolds but that fad passed quickly and I haven't noticed it since.

WestwardHo1 · 09/11/2025 18:53

Is it 2020?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 09/11/2025 18:55

I think low loo roll stock is the official barometer for 2020 vibes.

JudgeBread · 09/11/2025 18:57

Why do you care though? They're not putting their fingers in your mouth are they, so who gives a shit?

"Shoppers with disposable gloves touch hundreds of stuff, face, money, cards etc."

But how is that any different to someone not wearing gloves, who will touch exactly the same number of things?

They think they are believing they are more safety conscious when they aren’t. Plus the rewearing the same gloves shop after shop has more germs than recently washed or sanitised hands

I wonder if people getting reminders for Flu/Covid vaccines is what’s set some people off again? 🤔

Loo roll supplies seemed ok today though 😅

applebee33 · 09/11/2025 19:02

did you just call the glove DG , as in dear glove 😭🤣

RessicaJabbit · 09/11/2025 19:03

What's worse is all the black gloves being used all over foodie reels, especially home cooking ones!

One dude was making some sort of sandwich. Was handling pans, knives, packaging, food etc without swapping over gloves ... So what's the point?

NET145 · 09/11/2025 19:04

Why do you care? Why would anyone

Because they are wearing the same pair of gloves over and over again and they aren’t washed at all. Hands at least get washed at some point.

It’s vile. Even if you told them OP they would still continue to do the same.

Disposable glove!

EmeraldRoulette · 09/11/2025 19:19

@noggla I understand

Plus, if they wash their hands, they would be creating far less contamination without the gloves. These weirdos are probably spreading bugs like Noro 😭

WittyJadeStork · 09/11/2025 19:24

I was in town recently and there was an ice cream seller eating a bag of crisps with his gloves on and licking his gloved fingers. It was awful.
I’ve seen a few people repeatedly re using disposable gloves. There was one member of staff in a shop I had to use for months after Covid wearing the same pair of grubby gloves

I guess most people wash their hands a number of times throughout the day but it sounds like this couple had been reusing these gloves several times over as they had gone into holes.

Having said that, I shop with the assumption that other shoppers have coughed into their hands, picked their noses and wiped their arses without washing - so I use hand gel as I leave the supermarket and wash as soon as I get in the house.

I used to feel a bit sick when I saw people walking round with their "disposable" face masks that had turned a delightful shade of brown due to having been worn for so long.

Exactly!

The problem is using disposable gloves as reusable gloves. Not the gloves themselves.

scalt · 09/11/2025 19:52

I’m more upset that they’re succumbing to the Covid propaganda, years later.

Livelovebehappy · 09/11/2025 20:09

I was just remarking on this last weekend! Never seen it before but noticed two separate couples in a local gift shop wearing disposable gloves. Has there been something in the media about some new germ/virus or something? Can’t be just a coincidence that we’re suddenly seeing this.

gaggiavelasca · 09/11/2025 20:21

@nogglaout of interest why did you list doctors AND anaesthetists?

Same here. The disposable masks were worn multiple times by people that the strings round the ears and white strip at top were black!

I think it’s something that’s come from America. Whenever there are cooking videos on social media there are endless comments saying ‘why aren’t you wearing gloves?’ I’ve never in my life seen a professional chef wearing gloves to cook.

I think that gloves are way more germ infested than bare hands that are regularly washed.
