Wonderofwimbledon · 06/11/2025 20:33

We’re absolutely financially at our limit… I’m so incredibly stressed. An income tax rise will break us and we won’t be able to afford it. We won’t have money to eat.

What do you think it’ll be? I just want to curl up and cry- we can’t take anymore increases our bills , mortgage everything has increased we have no spare money at all

I think a lot of people are thick or lack critical thinking skills to be more polite hence why a core of the Reform supporters are on benefits

Reform will set out their policies and be judged on their performance when in Government after the next general election. At the moment they are not in Government and they never have been. Trying to shift the blame onto 5 reform mps for what Labour are putting the people of this country through is just desperate and nonsensical. This mess was created by Labour and only Labour, it’s a result of their ideology and their incompetence.

WildLimePoet · 08/11/2025 13:44

Hope this Labour government is brought down soon in spectacular fashion and these incompetent, low calibre chancers get what they deserve. Unfortunately, that will require an IMF bailout, which is looking more and more likely by the day.

Two Tier and Rachel from Accounts are bankrupting the country with their every move.

Which alternative party will bring a magic wand?

Then you'll all be on here after 5 minutes slating them.

EasternStandard · 08/11/2025 13:46

cottonwoolie · 08/11/2025 13:44

But I agree people are struggling with reality. However most are realising Labour are not delivering.

Are you capable of framing any response without mentioning labour. What point are you trying to make?

I thought you wanted to stop engaging why ask questions.

The posts cover the points I’m making, scroll back.

cottonwoolie · 08/11/2025 13:47

Your previous post is kind of off and I’m sure you wouldn’t say that for another voter receiving benefits.

If anyone is voting for something that harms them I think it's a stupid thing to do @EasternStandard. Is that really controversial?

The country is in a rubbish position.

Outgoings = more than incomings and the delta is growing.

Keep calm and drink tea until we hear what the budget will be.

I don't think it makes a difference which political party we have right now. Things need to change, we all need to pay for Brexit, pensioners, all that COVID furlough, SEN, anxiety, whatever, the costs have to decrease and the taxes increased.

It does make a difference as policies have harmed growth.

Yep, and so has each previous government

One party cannot solve years of no growth. It needs cross party consensus and will take years to turn around it. The electorate don't want that though, so it's the doom spiral.

You are a fantasist if you think that. Capital flight, rising unemployment, falling tax receipts, raising debt and interest and falling investment from private sector says so.

Yes, agreed.

Let's all moan and winge again.

Vote in a U-turn one government, the next one that is promising wonderful magic ✨

There is no indication that we need an IMF bailout. I'm not a fantasist, I'm just realistic.

The policies now are not turning things around. They’re creating a tax spiral.

And this is what I find so depressing.

cottonwoolie · 08/11/2025 13:53

People want better services but they don't want to pay higher taxes. It's not possible.

Did you miss £70bn tax and borrowing increase at the last budget?

hollyblueivy · 08/11/2025 13:57

Haven’t read the thread but I thought they were adding 2p to income tax and taking 2p off national insurance. Most people won’t see a change expect really high earners, landlords and pensioners that have private pensions.

I want much lower taxes so I can pay for my own better services.

Fearfulsaints · 08/11/2025 13:59

I find it odd how strongly people are either cut spending or raise tax.

I honestly think the situation means both and any party in power has to tackle that.

Spending cuts alone would be so harsh and we would see people die, worse education.

Tax rises alone hamper growth, people leave the country, job losses etc.

People dont seem to think we have to do both so your tsxe will go up a little bit and things won't improve because they will be cut a little bit.

Thats a really hard sell. Vote for me, pay more for less!

Reeves only has to placate the bond markets - that’s self evident given the way she is treating the tax payer - breaking manifesto pledges etc.

To your point re the IMF - if the next budget does not deliver, she will have less than zero political capital for further fiscal tightening, and will be finished. If she is unable to get debt under control, then a bailout, whilst hugely unlikely, is not a zero percent probability.

Last week, Reeves signalled rises in the next budget and has approached the OBR.

I personally am paying no more tax than I was last June. I suspect most of the posters on this thread aren’t either. Including you.

But your employer is. That isn't money out of the Christmas party budget, it's money no longer available to hire new staff, invest or give bonuses. No business I've worked at is swimming in cash and could easily absorb the increase without passing it on to staff or consumer or both. When taxes do go up, I'll just spend less, save more - again, that's less money going to pay people's wages, invest.

I’d like some proof of that statement on growth
Its incorrect !
There was growth during the last Government
