In the uk now?

I’m British but live in another European country, I want to move back but Dh is adamant it’s too dangerous and wouldn’t be the best for Dd
All I keep seeing on my Ig is all these attacks and frightening things, is this realistic where you are??
I am seeing all of Europe is becoming more dangerous, including where we are and it makes me worried

For some reason I’m developing a bit of anxiety about this, so want honest answers if possible 🙏

Not dangerous. Completely shit weather, NHS, Education system, Transport, Housing market and job market but still relatively safe.

Joeninety · 05/11/2025 15:48

Worse is the Brits appalling hypocrisy and apathy. From the top to the track suit trouser wearing bottom.

ParmaVioletTea · 05/11/2025 15:48

I’ve lived in Australia, America, and the UK.

The UK is by far the safest country of those three. British muddling along makes it a comfortable easy-going place.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 05/11/2025 15:48

You are forming opinions based on Instagram? Wow you are a propaganda dream. Maybe open your front door and go somewhere and decide what you think of it yourself.

OneBookTooMany · 05/11/2025 15:53

It depends where you live.

There are plenty of market towns and villages that are lovely, safe places to live in in but the downside is that there tends to be very little diversity.

You have to decide where you would like to live, what is important to you and then research that place properly rather than relying on social media.

I love living in the UK.

Every country has its issues.

It’s very safe, OP. I’ve just been to London for a few days and happily walked through the city alone at all times of day.

Where I live in a small rural town I don’t generally come across crime and happily leave my door unlocked.

In the UK we don’t tend to have major weather events and the chances of terrorism are low.

It’s fine.

Little diversity is a downside for a lot of people.

How is it an upside?

Pugdays5 · 05/11/2025 16:02

It's no worse than anywhere else in Europe

SiberFox · 05/11/2025 16:02

You will always see the worst of anything on social media.

Lastfroginthebox · 05/11/2025 16:09

That's just how news works - gives you the big sensationalist stories which is no reflection of real life. The UK is not a dangerous country.

Mapletree1985 · 05/11/2025 16:18

Never believe the news. I've lived for extended periods of time in places that were regularly in the news due to civil unrest, civil war, lawlessness, etc... etc... - and in all that time the number of unpleasant incidents I experienced was nil. You can be unlucky anywhere.

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 05/11/2025 16:27

Get off instagram or at the very least stop clicking on scare stories that are polluting your algorithm with nonsense.

What about the track suit wearing people at the top

Them as well.

Aside from cost of living that is affecting almost every country in the west - everything where I live is puttering along pretty much like it always has. I'm always fascinated by all the posts on here and the general media surrounding this idea of everything is going to hell - I think there are definite issues that need addressing and a lot of tough issues facing the world but it is really not as bad at all is people with an agenda seem to constantly be making out.

Mewling · 05/11/2025 16:47

Another thread where people are seemingly scared to move back to the UK. Almost as if it were a coordinated effort to make the UK seem terrifying when, in comparative terms, we’re one of the safest places to live in the world.

One issue is that the police are neither feared by those that should fear them or respected by the rest of us. They present as Starmer's SS but they look like third rate parking attendants. They are crippled by red tape and undermined by hiring initiatives that mean you end up with people who aren't fit to do the job

Edited

Oh don't be so silly. Starmer's SS, indeed 🙄

Cinnamon77 · 05/11/2025 16:52

It obviously depends where in the UK. Some parts are worse than others. Avoid London and you should be OK.

But why would you want to when we have people like Lammy in charge?

It is almost like that isn't it? Makes you wonder how many posters are actually parents with no paid political agenda on here these days.

London is where you're most likely going to be the victim of a violent crime
