Would you have told this woman that half her bum was hanging out?

DW and I were at a train station on Saturday which was full of people dressed up for Halloween. A bit ahead of us were two women whose costumes incorporated extremely short skirts. The woman on the left had got her skirt just long enough to cover everything but the woman on the right had the lower half of her bum showing.

DW wanted to say something to her, as she was worried she might not be aware and would appreciate being told. I said I didn't think this was a good idea, as she might have deliberately worn her skirt that short and therefore might react badly to someone bringing it up like it's a bad thing.

We ended up just carrying on to our train and not saying anything. Was I in the wrong to persuade DW not to get involved?

YABU - you should have said something to the woman

YANBU - you were right not to get involved

I had a wardrobe malfunction once in a foreign airport. I had just come out of the toilet when a woman came up and told me that my skirt was tucked up at the back. She disappeared before I could thank her but I will always be grateful to that woman. I could have been walking round for hours with my skirt tucked into my knickers!

DW wasn't trying to 'police what women wear' - she assumed the woman hadn't realised and wanted to let her know. Neither she nor I were judging her.

I mean, you've essentially looked at this woman and thought - that's so short I'd never wear it so it must be a mistake, when really it's quite clear this was not an obvious wardrobe issue as opposed to being a more revealing choice. That is judging.

How is it 'judging' if we didn't actually know that this is something people are currently choosing to wear?

Thank you for the valuable lesson. I found OP's comments to be a bit leery and creepy so I wrongly assumed they were a man. I would like to apologise for that and hope that by looking foolish I've given you a chance to feel a bit superior and smug and provide a useful reminder to everyone else that women can be creepy too.

Where is the Op being creepy or leery? I've re-read her comments and haven't picked that up at all.

DW isn't an 'old dear' 😂 And she was concerned for the woman, not judging her.

But yeah, maybe we have been 'living under a rock' because neither of us were aware that this particular look is in fashion at the moment.

(And, to be clear, I'm not judging either. Not least because when I was a teenager, the fashion was to wear very low rise jeans with your thong showing...)

It's not fashion, it's a halloween costume? You need to get out more honestly. What's next, someone flashed their ankle and you have to have a lie down?

Errr, buttock showing IS a look many (mostly) younger women are going for at the moment.

Have you actually read anything I've written on this thread? I feel like you're arguing with something I haven't said / don't think. It's really weird.

I saw quite a lot of full moon bum cheeks in skirts on teens at festivals this summer and also at Coldplay at Wembley. It is definitely intentional and (IMO) looks terrible regardless of buttock size - which varied quite a lot!

MidnightMeltdown · 04/11/2025 23:18

I saw woman the other day who was wearing a very tight pair of leggings which had a rip over the bum cheek. I wondered whether I should tell her, but decided not to.

She looked like the sort of person who was unbothered by what she looked like, plus she was with a couple of other people, so I thought I’d leave it up to them to tell her! I might have been more in inclined to tell her if she was in her own.

Ive seen quite a few women in leggings that are see through and I mean you can see underwear usually thong! They are always with other people so I assume they will tell them or it’s probably intentional

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 23:52

This is how some girls wear their skirts now - god knows why. Plus her friend could always tell her.

StarlightLady · 05/11/2025 07:45

There was a lovely post on another thread recently, where some teens shouted out to the poster in a nasty way “we can see your bum”and that poster retaliated, “l know! Nice isn’t it”. 😀

This was a very common look at Halloween where I live. I’m fine with it for grown women but some of the very young girls with their arses out made me feel very uncomfortable tbh.

Glasgowmama88 · 05/11/2025 18:02

Oh she knew her arse was out

some like the slutty look these days

Surely on what is a mainly womens’ forum we can avoid offensive terms like “slutty”?????

JFC people need to stop judging women and let them wear what they want. You were right to stop DW from intervening because she likely knew, it was deliberate and her choice to make.

Miaminmoo · 05/11/2025 23:25

Well if her friends weren’t going to tell her……..

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 05/11/2025 23:50

How much had she had to drink?

I think it is really unsanitary to have half of your bottom parts hanging out, and be sat on a seat on train which other peope could sit on.

Hope it got a thorough cleaning by the train company at the end if the day
Doubt it

Same when US Prisoner style no belt jeans, were all the rage a few years back with teenage lads.

Have these people been deagged up?

Just to be clear: DW wasn't judging. She was genuinely concerned that the woman hadn't realised - particularly as her friend was wearing the same outfit but her bum wasn't showing.

If the idea of halloween is to frighten away the evil spirits, perhaps that's what she thought would best serve that purpose?

sladtheinkaler · 06/11/2025 03:15

I thought the rule is that you don't point something out unless it can be fixed in under 20 seconds.

Undone fly - yes, say something. Immediate fix.
Lipstick on teeth - yes, it's a rummage for a tissue and a scrub at most.
Hairstyle not flattering for face shape - no, that takes months to fix. You'll just ruin their evening.
Skirt too short - no, she doesn't have another skirt and can't do anything about it.

I hadn't heard of that rule but it's a good one.

DW's thinking was that the woman's skirt might have ridden up while she was on the train (in which case, it would have taken less than 20 seconds to readjust it).

As I've said earlier on in the thread, we weren't aware that this kind of look is in fashion at the moment (in our defence, we have a 16-month-old so haven't been around people dressed up for a night out in a loooooong time 😂).

I got a bit of a shock the first time I witnessed this fashion. Recently saw a young woman who was out and about wearing a high cut bodysuit, with nice shoes, and a bag, and nothing else. Arse cheeks on full display! I felt like a Victorian Lady seeing an ankle 😂 The first time I saw this look I genuinely wondered if the lass wearing it had had a wardrobe issue or was in fancy dress. By the third or fourth time in two weeks I realised it’s just what the youngsters are doing at the moment.
